What do you think of my wedding dress

Getting married in 3 weeks, low key affair. Just the 4 kids and the 2 of us in a registry office.

Bought a dress I love but DD14 has said she hates it and I look like something from the 80s so has given me a crisis of confidence and thinking maybe this is the wrong choice!

Would appreciate some impartial and objective views.... thanks

You have great legs! Definitely wear heels and show off your legs, whatever you wear.

I agree with pp: the skirt needs to be longer to make the style work. At this length, it’sd only look good on a tiny 14yo with no boobs and cowboy boots or converse or something equally inappropriate.

Short (to show off legs), boho, boobs, winter and 47yo are not going to be easy to pull off. Hate to say it, maybe a trouser suit in flowing fabric? Midi skirt with asymmetric hem that you can wear with tights or boots? Long skirt with thigh high split?

SusieQ5604 · 28/11/2018 01:26

I'm sorry but it looks made for a tween out of old lace curtains or doileys and you have beautiful legs and a gorgeous figure, why not show them off?

Blendingrock · 28/11/2018 01:32

If you like it that's all that matters.

Having said that, if you can afford to buy a different dress, maybe offer to take DD shopping so she can help you choose a 2nd option. That way you get to spend more time with DD (always a bonus at 14), she'll feel more involved AND she'll also feel that you are taking her opinions into account.

:)

Also being large breasted and wide shouldered myself, this dress is pretty but only going to work on narrow shoulders with small breasts. The top part makes your body look like an upside down triangle and the cut of the top makes nothing of your lovely figure!

Something like this:

I love the two suggestions you have mentioned too! Good luck

OkPedro · 28/11/2018 01:43

Can I ask what exactly is a "proper wedding dress" white, virginal and pouffe?
op you have amazing legs definitely show them off. I don't like the colour of the dress but you still look great. Have a lovely wedding day!

sheldonesque · 28/11/2018 01:59

I can't see it.

All I'm getting is a little x in a box.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Have a lovely day OP. Flowers

1forAll74 · 28/11/2018 02:10

It's not too bad really, but it is a bit 70-80 era, as I had a similar dress for evening wear then. I think it would look better being a little longer though, maybe a bit more below the knees.

AwakeNow · 28/11/2018 02:11

Just no. Of course with 4 kids between you, it could be a great birth control method.
Ok, that last bit was a joke...but no, that dress is not flattering or pretty.

AwakeNow · 28/11/2018 02:53

@Toooldtobedoingthis, here is a very similar but I think...a differant dress? It is quite pretty in blue.

kateandme · 28/11/2018 03:03

if you like it then good for you.it wont load on my pc.all piccies do this for some reason for me!i just get a square box. but that aside its your day not your daughters.and at that age if mum was wearing a megan markle lookalike they would "have" to not like it lol.
I might be having a word with dd though on how it feels to be told your look awful

Nanalisa60 · 28/11/2018 03:08

If you are happy in it and you feel good in it then that’s all that maters!! as They say it’s your day enjoy it

Monty27 · 28/11/2018 03:25

Nope! Don't know if it's the photo but it looks like it needs a good wash.
Sorry OP.
Have a great day and congratulations Flowers

Aus84 · 28/11/2018 03:34

Mid 30's and I don't like it. Looks like a cross between something from the 1600's with the high neck and lace look and something from the 80's. You have a lovely figure and could easily find something nice to compliment it.

RedWineIsFabulous · 28/11/2018 04:08

It does nothing for you - you have a great figure, don’t hide it!

I too like the second suggestion from Avege

Good luck- let us know what you are going to do.

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/11/2018 04:32

I agree with several others. It would be so much better proportionately if it were knee length. I also don’t like the white with light colour combo. I think it easily washes people with lighter skin out. Either straight cream / white or an obvious colour will look better.

If you really love the backless dress - i must say that is my fave, you could get one made for you but with a higher back. I also prefer at least knee length.

Happy shopping.

bloodyhellimtired · 28/11/2018 04:46

Oh please don't be put off your dress op. It's beautiful. It's elegant and pretty, it shows off your figure and it's chic. I love it.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/11/2018 06:00

I have to agree with your DD, sorry.

Rolstone · 28/11/2018 23:18

It's a beautiful dress. Unfortunately it is the kind of think that I personally would wear to a Christmas party. You said there are a couple of things about the dress that you are not totally happy with. Is that the dress you want for your wedding day? Take a pic of you in that dress all done up the way you would be on your wedding day and put it with a photo of your hubby to be and see if you would be happy with it in your wedding photos. I would say tho that if you are having doubts, then that is not the dress for your wedding. Type in wedding dresses in amazon. It isn't just your usual wedding dresses that come up, it also comes up with dresses that are lovely and could be used for a wedding. There are some lovely dresses on there that I think you would look amazing in. The prices are great and if you have (or know someone that has) prime then you will get free and next day delivery. Many congrats on your wedding. And most importantly, enjoy your special day and all the best for the future.

Milliy · 29/11/2018 00:40

Sorry I don't like it. It looks a bit net curtainy

Toooldtobedoingthis · 29/11/2018 21:39

Thank you all for the advice and impartial views and have today tried a few of the styles suggested, the chi chi dress was lovely but could only fit one boob In the top half of the dress whilst the bottom half fitted perfectly!, but particular thanks to @FenellaMaxwellsPony your Asos silver bridesmaid suggestion was delivered today and had the seal of approval from the 14 year old and I love it, so sold!

It's totally the right dress for me... roll on the 22/12 - thanks again for everyone's time and comments
