🐌 Fantastic Skincare: We're So Drunk We're Seeing Elephants 🐘

Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

Anyone have horizontal lines across the middle of their neck? Had them years but didn't think they were that until today. Hopefully just a bad pic...

mintmagnummm · 16/11/2018 05:49

Yes Enid I do and I don't like them

mintmagnummm · 16/11/2018 05:51

Babypigeon thank you for those suggestions I'll take a look.

Nice yes I'd imagine the GOW one is not as strong as skinoren, it's 10% azelaic.

SallieSallow · 16/11/2018 09:39

I’ve got neck lines, mine got worse with age Sad My neck is saggy too, I hate it.

I only ever tried niacinamide and azelaic acid from TO ages ago, didn’t like the texture of TO ones and they didn’t do anything (good or bad) so never bothered again. Wonder if I should look into a better azelaic but I’ve finally started using tret again so don’t really want to be introducing other new products right now.

botemp · 16/11/2018 11:39

I've had vertical lines for as long as I remember, first noticed them as a teen but I assume they were always there 🤷

They never show up on pictures though but those vertical bands and my collar bones become really prominent then, I assume as I'm never all that eager or relaxed about having my picture taken. I can't be all that bothered about it, don't think I've ever noticed someone else's neck all that much, unless they have gout or something. Anyhow, if it really bothers you can get Botox for it, apparently it helps with the sagging of the jawline a bit as well.

  • horizontal lines in the first sentence

EnidButton · 16/11/2018 15:08

Thanks all. I think dysmorphia was triggered a bit by the pic tbh so don't think I can trust my own judgement when it comes to what I look like atm. Plus camera phones are never the most flattering.

I need a break from...I don't know, myself probably! Anyway I'm ignoring my neck and face for a couple of weeks apart from my established routine. Brew

mintmagnummm · 16/11/2018 19:12

Enid I'm with u 💐

EnidButton · 16/11/2018 19:51
Flowers

I saw Sali H post about her empties and there was some Laura Mercier almond coconut bath cream that looked good. Nice smelling baths really appeal at this time of year. Anyone tried it?
I had some LM Creme brulee honey bath once which smelt incredible I the jar but not very noticible once in water. The jars and twiddly wooden honey sticks really appeal though.

BabyPigeon83 · 16/11/2018 19:53

I noticed those horizontal lines a long time ago when it could not possibly have anything to do with aging signs.
The problem is that from the get go the skin on the neck has little scaffolding to cling to, so it's normal to have lines and eventually sagging. There is only so much skincare can do...

BabyPigeon83 · 17/11/2018 08:37

Are any of you ladies interested in the beauty top 50 from cosmo magazine ?
It includes skincare, body care, makeup, hair care.

If so, I could list all the products (and find some links for them :) )

JDSTER · 17/11/2018 08:49

Hi pigeon I always like a look at those lists. I know they’re not always very independent, but that’s fine.

Enid I agree on nice bath products being fitting for this time of year. I haven’t tried Laura mercier ones but I know the ones you mean. I’ve suggested to DH he gets me some REN rose bath oil for Christmas, which I love the smell of. I’ve bought him a set of the kneip bath oils. Quite medicinal smelling some of them but we both like them.

sallie are you using a product with niacinamide in? Good to help your skin barrier cope with the tret.

Ollivander84 · 17/11/2018 08:56

Got some of the good cera range - the lip balm and the mist. Lip balm is really nice

mintmagnummm · 17/11/2018 20:04

Has anyone here used the medik8 hydr8 B5?

Tsmummy08 · 18/11/2018 16:14

Hello all, still here, just lurking, will update in a bit :)

Mint Yes I've used that one - it's OK, perfectly fine as a HA serum, I used it on the recommendation of the clinic that did (and still does) my botox alongside a vitamin c product that I can't recall the name of! Does the job but there are many more reasonably priced HAs (although I'm considering getting the DE one as I really liked that).

Connie5858 · 18/11/2018 17:25

Hi following some recommendations I got the Vichy 89 Didn’t realise when everyone were discussing it it’s hylauronic acid.
And after asking for advice to get a better foundation than Estée Lauder double wear
I have followed some of you and gone for the nars tinted moisteriser.
All your skincare advice must be working as I can get away with the tinted moisturiser instead of the heavier foundation. So thank you everyone for my glowing skin. And also people are starting to content in my skin.

mintmagnummm · 18/11/2018 17:29

Tsmummy it's the b5 part that interests me and its before the ha in the ingredients list. It's been recommended to me to strengthen my barrier even more. There's a skinceuticals one but it's more ££ and people are saying the medik8 one is better.

mintmagnummm · 18/11/2018 17:34

Oh just looked at the drunk elephant one and it has b5 too! Tsmummy you do mean the b-hydra right? And it's £44 so similar price to medik8, hmmmm interesting.....

BabyPigeon83 · 18/11/2018 18:01

JDSTER Yes I am aware that beauty editors received a lot of products, I don't know if they are actually payed to feature them in a top 50. I guess they are payed to feature them in the magazine?

From this list I only use one product, Gimme Brow, and I like it. :)
