Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Most of us had long since stopped using it, partially due to the inconsistency of formulations and the worrying behaviour of the CEO on Social Media.

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

Was just about to use the nuface mini but as mine has been out of action for so long looks like I’ll have to treat it as New & charge up for 16 hours, so tomorrow is D-Day now.

JDSTER the big nuface you got needs charging for 12 hours when new. You might already know that but I’d completely forgotten about the long charge time and am miffed that I can’t use it today now. Serves me right really as I should have re-read the instructions & done some research before now, think it’s about 2 years since I used it so can’t remember much at all.

botemp · 26/01/2019 13:28

Koko, as Sallie and JDSTER have said that's normal ageing, down to progressive sun damage so all the more reason to wear sunscreen at all times. The area you've photographed aren't your temples (they sit top left and right of the arch of your eyebrows, close to the hairline), this is just smile lines.

There is a bit of skin laxity, could be down to dehydration or diet. Do you eat healthily overall, adequate intake of fruit and vegetables, low on proceeded foods, oily fish twice a week, moderate with alcohol, not a smoker, etc.? Not expecting you to be virtuous but these do tend to show more in your skin as you age.

What is the serum Koko? You could maybe look at using a hyaluronic acid serum, they are usually pretty gentle so I think would be ok with rosacea but I’d do some research first as I’m not 100% sure on that.

Evening beauties, two quick questions:

  1. Anyone ever used Cosmedix? Been given an “anti-aging” Confused travel set...
  1. Foreo - I got a mini cleansing ((Luna?) for my birthday, and on looking it up to see what’s it actually was, I saw there’s a different one that does LED “treatments”. Has anyone come across these before?
SallieSallow · 27/01/2019 09:52

Koko I don’t know much about the Superdrug serum but it doesn’t seem to contain anything that would be a major irritatant from what I can see. If you get on ok with Vichy products you could try their HA serum - it’s called Mineral 89.

Splat I have never heard of either of those, will have a google.

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2019 13:25

I'm on a tester panel and testing a serum, which seems good so far. Then serum drops which you add every couple of days. Will be interesting to see what it is, I've worked out the brand but not what it's actually for as such

Had my Botox review yesterday and a few more units added, just in between my eyebrows and above one eyebrow as it was a mm higher than the other

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 27/01/2019 13:42

Hi all, I'm looking through the older threads and also the brilliant info sheets but just want to check, is there anywhere on here where you recommend sunscreens for everyday use? I'm struggling to find one at factor 30 and I do need to start using one. I've bought myself an oil cleanser and am slowly starting to improve my skincare regime thanks to this - after years of foaming face washes and sunscreen only on holiday!

mintmagnummm · 27/01/2019 15:08

Adam ultrasun face 30! If you email them directly ask them to send you the new formula which isn't in the shops just yet, I've been using the new one for about a week and it's a keeper for me. (I liked the old formula too but this one is perfect)

botemp · 27/01/2019 15:39

Adam, any specific reason why SPF30? I can't tell you exactly where I go into it but I do tend to advocate for SPF50 over 30 when the use is for anti ageing. Generally better choice in SPF50 as well.

Koko, actives of benefit with rosacea tend to be Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, and BHA. None of those are stellar anti ageing ingredients on par with retinoids, vit C and AHA (though technically AA is an AHA) but when those are off the table they may for good supportive actives.

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 27/01/2019 16:12

Ah I thought on the basics info sheet it said 30 for everyday and 50 for summer. I've been boring my other half with it and he has just come home with cetaphil daily moisturiser with SPF 50. I burn to a crisp without sunblock in the summer but I think I've also probably done some damage running without anything on my face in the wind etc.
Thanks for the Ultrasun tip @mintmagnummm

JDSTER · 27/01/2019 17:44

Adam la Roche posay do some good facial SPFs which are highly effective and waterproof/sweat proof so great for summer, holidays and running.
You tend to use less spf when it’s in a moisturiser so better to use a stand alone spf. Not all moisturiser with spf has UVA protection and that’s the rays that cause ageing, regardless of how sunny it is, as they’re present all year round.

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 27/01/2019 18:01

That makes sense thank you!

SallieSallow · 28/01/2019 14:58

I really like Frezyderm SPF50 (both tinted and non-tinted) but quite a few here found it stung their eyes, I am fine with it and do have sensitive eyes usually so seems to be the luck of the draw as to whether you'll get on with it or not.

And Drumroll Big Announcement I have started using the Nuface! Very, very quick and easy to use, I used the hand chemistry HA gel and kept it wet it with Vichy thermal water spray.

Last time around I was doing the extended routine as the leaflet that came with mine suggested I should, think that was why I got fed up so quickly as it's more time consuming. I might still do that at the weekends when I have more time but other than that will be 5 minutes in the morning which is much more manageable and I'm likely to keep it up.

Also reading reviews I think they've changed the formula of their conductive gel - not that I'm going to buy theirs but for JDSTER or anyone else that has one coming with the gel seems like it's a much better formula now.
