Busy month ahead! And don’t forget Wax and Max with the hats & sleeves!

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 17:31

I left Wax and Max out of the title because what with everything else going on this month, we'll be ready for another new thread by the time they get here!

I can't believe how popular these royal style threads have become! And I think we had just one person, early on, telling us our minds should be on higher things - that must be a MN record!

There’s a thread about Our Girl which started a few years ago, god knows what chapter they’re on. I feel like I want to meet you all in real life and drink tea & eat cake and chat more about the Royals. You are my people! Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 17:36

@Clionba

John Major was appointed when the Wales' marriage was particularly toxic. He has remained part of their circle. True, Curly since the diamond jubilee HM has gradually been handing more and more over to Charles. She lives mostly at Windsor.

I think the Queen probably retired fully when she said Phillip was. I don’t know whether she has done any ribbon cutting for a while. We only tend to see her for the really high profile engagements, like Trooping of the Colour, Ascot. Although she did do that trip on the Royal train with Megs.

Good call. Eugenie’s wedding is going to be full of characters. ( note plural!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 17:49

It must still be a bit galling for Charles if he's king in everything but name and hasn't even been appointed regent! There's just no tradition of abdicating here, like there is in the Netherlands. I guess there wasn't in Spain either when Juan Carlos stepped down, but he was embroiled in all manner of things dodgy!

Good point, Curly. This is a great thread, QueenOfTheAndals and I definitely think we'd have a great time if we met up! What diverse topics we cover, and what fascinating insights!! Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 17:57

I've just realised Eugenie's wedding is on a Friday and I don't work on Fridays 🙌🏻 So I'll be able to watch all the coverage and live critique the outfits! Because let's face it, that's going to be the best part!

Ah! Lucky you! I'll be at work! No time to look online, so I'll have to wait until later. The forecast for Windsor is quite pleasant, dry and sunny, about 15-17°c.

frugalkitty · 29/09/2018 19:11

I've been happily reading along from the first thread so I will join in now if that's ok! Does anyone remember the Royal Romances magazine collection from the early 90s? This thread reminds me of those (wish I'd kept them!)

beanaseireann · 29/09/2018 19:28

Thanks QueenoftheAndals for the new thread.
Apparently Meghan's half sister has arrived in London Shock

beanaseireann · 29/09/2018 19:30

Didn't John Majors wife stick with him despite the affair with Edwina Curry ?

MissLingoss · 29/09/2018 19:33

I think the Queen probably retired fully when she said Phillip was. I don’t know whether she has done any ribbon cutting for a while.

But the ribbon cutting etc is only a small part of the job, and probably not what she would consider most important. It's the red boxes, the weekly audiences with the PM, receiving Commonwealth representatives, all the other things that happen behind the scenes, that are the real job.

She'll be at the Cenotaph in November, unless she's confined to bed for any reason, whatever else she does or doesn't do. The 11th is actually on the Sunday this year, the actual centenary of the Armistice. I should think Philip might be there too, even if he only watches from the window.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 20:01

I think the DoE may be there in person as it's such a significant day. He's of that stiff upper lip generation and I think he'd have to be really ill to not go. Remember how he stood for 6 hours on the flotilla for the jubilee and was hospitalised the next day? And then he had hip surgery and broke a rib before Harry's wedding but practised walking up and down stairs so he wouldn't have to walk with a stick on the wedding day. They don't make 'em like that anymore!

What was royal romances kitty? Sounds intriguing!
Wasn't there a blind that said that Phil the Greek actually had prostate cancer surgery when they said he was having hip surgery prior to H&M's wedding? Would explain his super fast recovery

evilharpy · 29/09/2018 20:11

Hurrah new thread!

VanillaSugary · 29/09/2018 20:30

Thanks for the new thread! Nothing to add today though Grin

BlingLoving · 29/09/2018 20:40

I suspect the queen feels a huge sense of relief from ditching the travel. A say trip to shake hands and look at exhibitions is a lot easier if you can go home to your own bed.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 20:50

Just realised Eugenie’s wedding is less than 2 weeks away.
I will definitely be watching on the YouTube channel & chatting with all of you as each frock appears!

Changing the subject slightly, the Queen should technically be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in 2022. I’m sure she will be around at “only” 96. However given that Phillip is already 97; his presence would be doubtful, either too frail or no longer with us. I remember during the diamond Jubilee when Philip was in hospital; she looked so lost without him. She has since adapted and HM is often accompanied by one of the younger Royal ladies for engagements. However, I wonder whether they will make a big deal of the 70th? I suspect it will be a low key one; but you never know....

Clionba · 29/09/2018 21:08

The Queen was technically at the Cenotaph last year, but watched from the balcony. Charles presented the monarch's wreath.

Jackietheduck · 29/09/2018 21:29

I’d say the trip with Meghan was done as a PR exercise tbh. It was at a time when MM’s own family were being particularly outrageous in their attempt to court publicity.

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 21:31

The wedding is at 11 a.m. Is that right? That will be at 6 a.m. my time. I'll be able to see it before I head off to work.

TulipsInBloom1 · 29/09/2018 21:34

Joining you all for the first time, now that Kate is back in business. Who are Wax and Max?

Paradyning · 29/09/2018 21:39

William and Máxima of Orange. She is the dogs bollocks!
