Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Whilst I do respect and encourage that stance it is a bit odd coming from CH who engages in internet spats quite a bit and has set her following to dox an innocent woman who once expressed a critical stance on her. Quite a few accusations of cyber bullying attached to her name as well.

I highly wish your man would stop being a twit of the highest order 😡 I happen to really like TO niacinamide and zinc and I can’t think what to replace it with. Plus it’s easy to buy now too, what with being sold in Hennes and Åhléns. 😡😡😡

I could say I told you so about the Dr Sam cleanser ... 😚 Now if I was going to buy a social media dr cleanser it wouldn’t be a dr it’d be Enilsa Brown’s, of YouTube pimple popping fame. 💯

Since the heat went I haven’t been drinking 4-5 litres of water a day and I do feel like my skin is getting worse. What am I going to do. I can’t be drinking those amounts during the cold season when I’m not sweating it out?!?!! You can’t go out into -15 with any bladder liquid and three vaginal births under your belt, you need to pee IMMEDIATELY. Feck.

I also take back previous comments about the max factor calorie 2000 mascara. The formula does me ok and I like the black brown colour but the wand is shit. I didn’t realise before really but the ones I’ve used recently have had better brushes. Saved one and use it with the max factor but the wand doesn’t screw into in the max factor tube so it’s a faff keeping it separately. Tips for not insanely expensive, brown-black, smudge proof mascaras with good wands accepted.

Had to chime in to say I found those pics on Facebook really worrying.

Bad enough that he took them, but we've all been a bit snap happy in social occasions. Very bad taste that he kept them once viewed in the sober light of day, but some people are just spiteful and unpleasant like that. But, to me, completely inexplicable that he posted them without anyone subsequently intervening.

I know he owns the majority of the company but surely Estee Lauder have rules about the conduct of senior executives in companies they invest in?

mintmagnummm · 26/08/2018 11:37

Ok so I'm really curious about the Facebook/instagram drama wit Brandon but I'm not on either of them so can't check, can anyone send a link or screenshot for me to look at please?

PickledHoneybuzzard · 26/08/2018 12:01

Tbh mint I would feel uneasy posting a screenshot of a photograph which I strongly suspect is embarrassing to one of the subjects and almost certainly posted on SM without her consent (although obviously I'm only guessing that).

All this 'controversy is marketing' nonsense maybe valid 🤨 I suppose, but when it involves people who are no longer your business partners/colleagues/associates it does just look like revenge porn.

Ollivander84 · 26/08/2018 13:22

I'm ok posting the link, the comments seem mostly supportive towards her and berating him. I would rather post a link than a screenshot

I use the Lisa E eye make up remover technique with my Nivea double effects which works a treat for me.

The previous rubbing action I deployed made my eyes sore with every product I used.

I prefer the Nivea actually to the Lancome which I previously used.

I didn't get on with Garnier and Bioderma micellar as much as love it does not remove my mascara any where near as efficiently as the Nivea.

I haven't bought anything from Deciem for months now although yes they were great starter products back in the day.

I find Brandon's behaviour abhorrent and undignified for someone running a company.

Fortunately I am happy using products from other companies and will continue to do so.

TantricTwist · 26/08/2018 15:15

By Garnier I mean the specific eye make up remover, made my eyes sting.

mintmagnummm · 26/08/2018 15:53

I understand pickled

Thank you olli 💐

mintmagnummm · 26/08/2018 15:54

Olli it says the page is unavailable or may have been removed 🤔

EnidButton · 26/08/2018 16:36

I'm assuming The Abnormal Company is still part of Deciem? Quick google seems to show it is. It's put me right off that hand cream I loved, unfortunately. I just don't want to support someone like that in any way even if it's small.

EnidButton · 26/08/2018 16:38

I have a No7 eye make up remover that works very well if used the way you all suggested up thread. It's a bright blue oil that you shake to mix with the other half of clear 'water'. Thanks for the tips.

TantricTwist · 26/08/2018 20:18

I'm not happy with my Benefits Big Bang girl mascara because it smudges like every other mascara yet because it's waterproof you can't just wipe it away, so annoying.

Pupsiecola · 27/08/2018 15:06

Has anyone ever used anything from The Organic Pharmacy? We were just away for the weekend with friends and I spied several products from this brand in our shared bathroom. Didn't have specs on to read what they were. Just curious as never heard of them...

mintmagnummm · 27/08/2018 15:33

I have pupsie they are essential oil based products, very luxurious but overpriced in my opinion and my skin can't tolerate the essential oils for too long

TantricTwist · 27/08/2018 23:33

Brandon's at it again, posting private emails from Hotels in polite response to his accusations Hmm
He really is not an authentic leader by any description and very autocratic which as we are witnessing will be be the swift and eventual demise of Deciem.

banivani · 28/08/2018 07:08

Right. Am now accepting suggestions of alternative niacinamide (+ zinc) products.

botemp · 28/08/2018 07:25

On Instagram he's attacking Leonord Lauder using the veiled excuse of caring about his wife's cancer (as far as I can make out, it's highly confusing). It's so distasteful the ever diplomatic Sali Hughes has expressed her disgust and outrage (who also mentioned Brandon has been posting pictures of the homeless with suggestions they should read more Hmm). So I suppose EL is working behind the scenes trying to mitigate some damage only to have now gotten caught up in it.

The scariest thing is the fervent defenders who are probably more disturbing than the man himself. And seriously none of the products are that good.

Bani, GOW has a niacinamide product but it's only 5% and no zinc. So probably not going to work the same. Serozinc never did much for you right? You've tried Azelaic before with little luck as well, I think?

OP posts:
banivani · 28/08/2018 09:47

Eeeeuuuurrrhhhhgggg. Well I do think the N+Z is good. Bleurgh. Why do people have to be shits.

Bo - I don't know if it's specifically the addition of zinc or if it's the 10% concentration of niacinamide that does the trick for my skin. I haven't tried Serozinc because it's hard to get here. So frustrating that Brandon decides to be an arse when the products are easy to get a hold of. Not so keen to have to go down the ordering online from overseas a month in advance route again. It doesn't match my lifestyle requirements. ;)

I've seen a few 5 % niacinamide products, I think Shark Sauce has that concentration. Will have to experiment. Possibly Serozinc is more widely available here now. Or, as I do with Lush, stick to that one perfect-for-me product but not get anything else. :/ I have used azelaic acid with success but again, hard to find. The Acne-Derm from Poland is ok, but had to be bought in Poland... The one from TO has unpleasant texture, do not want.

botemp · 28/08/2018 10:00

I was thinking the GOW Azelaic, Bani, would be a week or so rather than a month for delivery. Texture is meant to be much more pleasant to use than TO and like the Zinc + Nia it would tackle tone with anti bacterial properties.

banivani · 28/08/2018 10:14

Yes but I have to plan, Bo. I have to plan. And pay shipping. Why does the world not cater to meeeeeeeee. ;)

BagelGoesWalking · 28/08/2018 15:35

Botemp I saw that post yesterday. It's horrible as he's naming a woman who did not give permission to be named. Her daughter responded, obviously very distressed that her mother's name has been used. It's

I've seen other comments about his behaviour from others well placed to know, how the posting of the Gill/Victoria Health photos had sent shockwaves through the industry. Also some stuff on IG abut threatening behaviour to smaller suppliers etc which doesn't sound good. As I said in an earlier comment, it will be interesting to see where he is in 2 yrs time.

Now, Marula oil?? That's the only TO product I use. What alternative is there at a reasonable price? There's no way in hell I could justify to myself or anyone the DE level so if anyone has suggestion, I'd be grateful.

botemp · 28/08/2018 15:45

Yes, the email is horrific, Bagel. The woman expressly asked not to share knowledge of her condition to anyone which I think is pretty much acknowledged in the opening line of the email Hmm

I think you're being generous with two years...

Have you checked Gracefruit for Marula oil? They're a small family business up in Scotland (I think) that sell supplies for DIY skincare and their oils are supposed to be of good quality, might be a larger bottle than TO but I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper. TO was never really as competitive in their pricing with their oils.

I had shared a Reddit post here the last time there was major drama for UK based alternatives from the UK skincare addiction Reddit. I'll have to look it up again.
