Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

I wouldn’t mind testing makeup Olli I only ever got skincare from the Beauty bible - I think I’d actually said I’d prefer to test makeup when I signed up but they never sent me any! And to add insult to injury I used to have to fill in an excel spreadsheet for them and they’d tell me off if it was late, which it usually was. No wonder they binned me off Grin

Ollivander84 · 08/10/2018 20:34

This is the skin paste I tested! It's made it to production

BagelGoesWalking · 08/10/2018 23:03

I saw the Instagram video. Very very strange

BagelGoesWalking · 09/10/2018 00:18

Lots of discussion Deciem chat room. Ppl in Toronto saying store was closed, talk about warehouse being shut already, Covent Garden store closed when there was an hour or two of trading hours left in the day.

Pics from Reddit.

Oh thank you so much for all your recommendations
That’s good that Jdsester
That you used the same as me Estée Lauder dw and changed to the nars
My sister commented my skin is lovely
And I do feel I could get away with the nars as it’s a little like glass 😊

mintmagnummm · 09/10/2018 09:30

Sallie I've just ordered the dhc mascara! Will let you know how I get on. Thanks for the rec x

PickledHoneybuzzard · 09/10/2018 11:46

JDSTER and Sallie I used to be a tester for the two women who set up the Beauty Bible when they were journalists on the Mail on Sunday ( the shame 😐), back in 1994/5 ish. I stopped when I moved abroad in 2001.
I used to get a box of around 14 items each time but all the same. So all cleansers or all lip balms. The hardest was fake tan, I had to do each arm and leg with a different product to get the testing done in time!
I really loved some of the products, Bobbie Brown lip balm was one but most were pretty much all the same once you got past the fancy packaging. One of the strangest was Eddie Funkhauser, I think, make up. Made by Amway?
Anyway, wtf is going on at Deciem ?

botemp · 09/10/2018 12:06

It appears I missed a lot of the Deciem drama, the initial kick off was enough to not want anything to do with them as it's not just BT operating in such a manner, there's a system of power in place within Deciem that has allowed the situation to arise as it has. This Elle article gives a very detailed overview (although it's missing out the Gill shaming/revenge porn and possibly the Lauder family issues)

www.google.nl/amp/s/www.elle.com/beauty/makeup-skin-care/gmp19723451/timeline-deciem-brandon-truaxe-drama/

Realistically the man has some serious mental health issues and it shouldn't be that surprising that it had been building towards this when you read it all back. On Reddit there was talk that he's already been involuntarily commited recently. So probably best to hope he gets the help he needs and leave it at that.

OP posts:
PickledHoneybuzzard · 09/10/2018 12:41

I couldn't agree more, Bo. It is worrying that whatever help he needs isn't, apparently, being enabled by those around him. For him to be able to play this drama out on the company's SM accounts suggests to me that no-one is stepping in to help.

ElspethFlashman · 09/10/2018 13:36

Impulse bought the Vichy Derma blend foundation today. Anyone used it?

EnidButton · 09/10/2018 17:01

He's obviously very unwell. I hope someone steps in and is able to get him professional help.

ohello · 09/10/2018 18:11

Just found this thread this morning, totally awesome thank you! I'm about to go to a doctor's appt and she would probably be willing to write me a prescription if I just knew what to ask for, strength etc.

So what percentage strength tretenion should I get? Hope someone sees this, because other than the appt in an hour, I won't have any reason to see her again for a while, maybe.

botemp · 09/10/2018 18:50

ohello, well, the person who prescribes it will know better than us Confused just ask for the starter strength since you're new to it and obviously discuss suitability for your skin, etc. Where are you based, as it varies what's available strength-wise per country? I'm assuming you're not in the UK but if you are, AFAIK tretinoin isn't available in a pharmacy you'll need to go through a derm that imports it themselves or sells Obagi medical.

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 09/10/2018 18:59

ohhello I believe people normally start with 0.25% or 0.5% but I’d be guided by what the doctor says.

Mint I hope you like the DHC, I’ll feel bad now if you hate it!

I think most of us saw this coming with Deciem, and hope Brandon now gets the professional help he needs, agree with Pickled that someone should have stepped in long before it got to this.

mintmagnummm · 09/10/2018 19:38

Sallie don't be silly, I'm grateful for the rec regardless of whether I like it or not so thank you x

mintmagnummm · 10/10/2018 10:39

I'm really liking the Bobbi brown long wear shadow sticks 👍🏻

Pupsiecola · 10/10/2018 14:49

I have a £50 voucher for Space NK thanks to my kind colleagues (birthday today).

I'm thinking about:-

DE Marula Oil
Kevin Aucoin eyelash curlers
Bo I can't remember the eyebrow product you recommended but seem to recall it's available in Space NK?
I want the DE Protini Polypeptide Cream, but they don't have it in store - online only

Any other suggestions?

botemp · 10/10/2018 15:15

Happy Birthday, Pupsie! Cake Wine it's the Surratt brow product that I mentioned.

You're reminding me that the Nadine Bagott video went up which gives 15% off DE (but also on most other things) at Cult Beauty. I'll need to go look it up again but it's the most recent video.

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 10/10/2018 15:41

Thanks botemp. Yes, that was it. Pretty sure they don't sell Surratt in my Space NK. I wonder if I can use my voucher online. I shall investigate.

I'm wondering how much better the KA curlers are over my Boots ones, which are pretty good, but then I've only ever used those ones, being late to curling. So I have no frame of reference. The KA are only £14 though...

botemp · 10/10/2018 15:45

Surratt is online only at SpaceNK IIRC.

I have the KA curlers and they're good for giving me a more slanted fluttery curl, but they won't be great for everyone. Think they do have KA in store so I'd just ask to try them and see?

OP posts:
botemp · 10/10/2018 15:49

Sorry, meant to add code for 15% off DE at Cult Beauty is CBXNADINE. It says limited period but not when it ends Hmm Anyhow, it's helpful to know DE isn't excluded from discounts, as CB does 15% off often and SpaceNK regularly has that £15 off over £60 spend offer.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 10/10/2018 20:03

I can't find Toleriane Fluide!! 😩 There's one called Toleriane Sensitive Fluid but going off the 'prebiotic' description I'm guessing it's not the same one.

Argh! I thought they weren't discontinuing it?

I'm completely out and have things on next week so don't want to change to something new right now. If you could see through the damn thing I might've realised it was near the end.
