Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

Re Letizia, my ex had a Spanish friend who absolutely loathed her. She kept saying that she didn't know why the Prince (as he then was) had married her when he could've had plenty other more suitable women, as she was divorced etc.

I’m glad to see Kate has grown her hair a bit longer, I really did not like the mid length look on her.

RosinaAlmaviva · 14/07/2018 21:07

Kate used to wear much more adventurous things pre-marriage. Now she's in the RF the clothes she wears (at least in public) are less about expressing her personality than sending a message: "I am the future Queen" which she does very consistently through a wide variety of events, levels of formality and weather conditions.

Kate looked lovely in the Jenny Packham dress - a very flattering cut for her. The bag and shoes were a bit boring though. Meghan was much more relaxed, but then Kate is the patron and senior royal, so not necessarily a faux pas. The blue and white stripes really suit Meghan but the trailing trouser hems were annoying me too. I don't know why but there always seem to be something off about the fit of her clothes?

beanaseireann · 14/07/2018 21:29

Queen
Does the reaction of your ex's Spanish friend to Letizia marrying the Prince remind you of the reaction many have to a certain English Prince marrying a divorcee ? Smile

mathanxiety · 14/07/2018 21:43

MM has quite a WASPish style and the fit accords with that. Take a look at Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's style - you will see echoes in MM.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/07/2018 22:19

@mathanxiety

Yy to CBK reference.
MM said she found her wedding dress inspiring. It was very 90s and simple.
Going to google her now!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/07/2018 22:22

YouTube has already it for me.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/07/2018 22:30

I’d be curious to see how Meghan dresses for a state dinner, given her style is so minimal.
She never seems to wear necklaces. I think she will plop a tiara on her head, maybe some simple earrings, bare necked and a nice bracelet.

When you think about it, Royal jewellery is pretty garish. It’s more symbolic, and beautiful in the actual craft & artistry of each piece, rather than actually fashionable....

OlennasWimple · 14/07/2018 22:38

I loved the Queen's brooch for the RAF centenary event.... Blush

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/07/2018 23:05

I loved the Queen's brooch for the RAF centenary

It wasn’t my favourite of hers. Kate’s was stonking , like a top girl guide badge. Now wonder she has such massive revers on her coat dresses if she will be wearing jewellery like that

Whatthefoxgoingon · 14/07/2018 23:43

I wore white palazzos and a striped shirt last weekend. Yeah alright Megan wore it slightly better Grin

Quantumblue · 15/07/2018 02:43

Can't bear the way the white trousers puddle on the ground.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jul/15/that-didnt-take-long-for-windsors-to-strip-meghan-markle-of-her-sparkle

Interesting article in The Guardian (sorry if already shared!) about Meghan's colour choices of late. Not sure I agree, particularly after yesterday's lovely ensemble at the tennis.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/07/2018 07:37

Not sure I agree entirely with that article either. Also, the bit about Diana introducing Fergie to Andrew is rubbish as they knew each other from childhood!

OP posts:
Clionba · 15/07/2018 07:59

Also, if "the Palace" was controlling her style, surely she'd be in a series of pastel coat dresses and not in off the shoulder or boat neck outfits in olive, yellow, navy and black?

SeaRabbit · 15/07/2018 07:59

I thought Meghan looked lovely and chic, yesterday apart from the trailing hem, and Kate was, well, Kate. I thought her dress was OK. She has worn more exciting things to the tennis in the past. But she doesn't go up that extra couple of notches unlike Meghan, generally.

There was quite a bitchy article in the Times today pointing out that Meghan's shirt cost £450, and she could have bought one like it from M&S for £15, as compared with Kate 'who has a reputation for recycling outfits'. Yes Kate has worn a few things twice but that's over a long period, and much of the time I have wondered why she didn't just wear one of her other (equally nice) mid-blue shifts or ice blue coats. And how much did Kate's dress at the tennis cost compared with Meghan's outfit? And Amanda Platell has it in for Meghan in the Daily Mail too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/07/2018 08:40

Amanda Platell is a twunt if the highest order, especially If she thinks declaring oneself a feminist is akin to "interfering in politics". Also, Meghan had a pretty successful career on Suits for years, so it's likely that she still has plenty of money she earned herself to spend on clothes.

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 15/07/2018 10:14

@mathanxiety that is exactly it.

No idea why in that case she doesn't do something with her hair and figure and go for it.

Her outfits are always horrible but trying to be different and interesting

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/07/2018 10:40

Wonder what Kate will wear to Wimbledon today.
Didn't think much of The Guardian article.

Clionba · 15/07/2018 10:44

I agree, Donkeys. Last year Kate wore a dress with massive polka dots, so I'm guessing a theme Grin.
I wonder if Meghan will be there again, or she only went to cheer on her friend Serena?

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/07/2018 11:10

Meghan's outfits are always horrible and she needs to do something with her hair? Um okay...

OP posts:
Becles · 15/07/2018 11:16

@Noeuf As a half black woman Meghan is already meeting white ideals about hair by using chemicals to straighten. The lack of flowing locks (frizz) that you find so unacceptable are part of her.

When black women say they are penalised for not having profess or appropriate hair this is the type of low level snide comments that make it acceptable.

SouthWestmom · 15/07/2018 11:20

@Becles

Erm, sorry to disappoint but I tagged @mathanxiety as I was responding to her post about Teresa May.

SouthWestmom · 15/07/2018 11:20

@QueenOfTheAndals

Did you not see the post from math about Teresa may?

SemperIdem · 15/07/2018 11:26

I really like Meghan’s style. Probably because I favour a more minimal style too.
