Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

I think for me anyway with Dr Sam's cleanser my face has to be quite damp as per the instructions on the bottle.
Halfway through the minute I feel I often need to add a bit more water to it because it's quite concentrated.

Which is good as it means its not bulked out with water in the bottle so you get more for your Buck as it were.

EnidButton · 14/07/2018 13:17

I didn't order the Lancôme scrub. 😇

I've ordered some REN rose body oil purely because I like the smell of the bath oil and prefer a scented oil, rather than perfume, when it's hot. I've been putting on NUXE oil or Elemis frangipani oil the past couple of weeks.

My leg hair grows faster in the summer. In fact, I think all my hair does. 🧐 Wonder if that's A Thing. Glad really as I'm still trying to grow layers out again.

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 15:28

Well done Enid 👍🏻.

I really dislike the smell of rose! But I love the loccitane rose et Raines fragrance for some reason.

EnidButton · 14/07/2018 15:50

Oh I love it Mint. Never used to. I like a sort of powdery old rose smell which the ren has. It's expensive though. I'm sure I could've found something cheaper if I was in the mood for searching.
I'll have a sniff of the l'occitane one when I'm in town tomorrow. Smile

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 16:29

I was put off ten years ago when I ordered one of their oils and when I received it there was a HUGE spider in the bottle!! Caused quite a bit of drama when I told them! This was about 10+ years ago now

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 16:30

Ren obviously, not ten!

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 16:32

I used to hate the smell of lavender, then when I was pregnant with my son I walked past a fresh lavender plant and thought oh I love that smell! I was shocked when I realised it was lavender! I still like it now and my son is 6, weird how these things happen.

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 16:33

Omg quadruple post I'm sorry!! This is a really random one but I'm having a Chinese takeaway this evening and don't know what to have, what do you all order when you have one??

MrsDOnofrio · 14/07/2018 17:00

Sweet and sour beancurd mint. Lovely

EnidButton · 14/07/2018 17:56

Duck in plum sauce with egg fried rice and bbq ribs. Huge portions so being a right greedy beast getting the ribs too but they taste sooooo good! Used to always get sweet n sour chicken.

Don't forget the prawn crackers.

EnidButton · 14/07/2018 17:57

Eek! at the spider Mint Shock I'll check my bottle carefully. Grin

bumhead · 14/07/2018 18:03

I watched a video on youtube last night where the lady was trialling spf powders and this one came top.
Has anyone used it?

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 18:43

Ooooh yum! I went for sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style and special fried rice. All I'm thinking of at mo though is MINT MAGNUMS!!! 😋

TantricTwist · 14/07/2018 19:19

I had a delicious Pasta Vongole today in Town and now I'm trying to get hold of baby clams but cant seem to find anywhere that sells them

EnidButton · 14/07/2018 22:48

You have to have ice cream after a takeaway Mint. It's the law.

Ollivander84 · 14/07/2018 22:56

I have fixed my foundation! So long story, every foundation wasn't sitting right, it was clinging and not blending. I tried about a million foundations, primer, no primer, honestly I was getting SO mad nothing was working
In despair I tried using a different moisturiser. Holy shit Shock EVERY foundation now goes on like a dream!

EnidButton · 15/07/2018 00:18

What's the moisturiser Olli? 👀

Ollivander84 · 15/07/2018 00:23

I've swapped from nip fab kale fix to elizavecca hyaluronic acid water drop cream

Ollivander84 · 15/07/2018 00:29

Don't ask me why it works Grin
The nip fab felt great and my skin loves it but my BB cream was rubbing off almost pilling and foundations weren't setting, more just sitting on my skin? Anyway problem solved and I am merrily slapping on ALL the foundations

mintmagnummm · 15/07/2018 07:25

Enid I did have the ice cream and bloody enjoyed it 😜. I've just got my period and feel like crap!

mintmagnummm · 15/07/2018 07:25

Just thought, you probably didn't want to know that 😬

EnidButton · 15/07/2018 12:26

Olli Maybe the hot weather made your skin more dehydrated and the hyluronic is helping with that. When my skin was dehydrated, foundations pooled in pores and didn't blend properly. Brilliant that you found something!

Mint I get HUNGRY before my period and could eat the entire takeaway shop. Grin Glad you enjoyed your ice cream. We have double choc magnums in the fridge and I'm sort of trying to resist...

EnidButton · 15/07/2018 12:26

Hope you feel better btw. Usually it lifts a bit on day two. Cake

mintmagnummm · 15/07/2018 13:18

Enid have the ice cream, I'm giving you permission 😜. And thank you, hopefully I'll start feeling better in the next few days. Got to go to my sons sports day tomorrow so fingers crossed it's not too bad for then!

TantricTwist · 15/07/2018 15:06

Olli I'm finding that Frezyderm makes my Nars TM go on really smoothly and helps it stay on all day, so long as I leave a 10 minute gap or so between application.

Anyone here on the Slimming World eating plan? I've just started on it and finding it really easy to stick to so far. Plus I guess changing my diet will contribute to better skin.
