Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

mint when you mentioned the pain has gone in to your ears, I think it sounds like an infection. I have very bad sinus/throat infections and they can start at the throat and then spread quickly. If the OTC meds don't help (and I also second the disprin gargle; try gargling warm water with lots of salt too - vicious but effective) then I suggest going back to the GP. What you have sounds rotten :(

mintmagnummm · 11/07/2018 16:54

Miffy yes I have a feeling it could be an infection too, I suffer terribly with my ears and have done since little. I've bought the difflam spray now and have my dissolvable aspirin and ibuprofen. Will try the salt in warm water too thank you. If I'm no better by Friday I'll call the surgery again. Thanks everyone x

Ollivander84 · 12/07/2018 10:49

Botox (azzalure) for me this afternoon!

TantricTwist · 12/07/2018 16:44

How did it go Olli

Ollivander84 · 12/07/2018 16:46

All done Smile same doctor as last time and she's very good

Pupsiecola · 12/07/2018 22:25

I much prefer the pink Biore over the Watery Essence SPF. I feel like I felt the latter on my skin all day and it made my eyes a bit stingy. I've ordered 4 bottles of the pink 😁

TantricTwist · 13/07/2018 09:01

I have to say Frezyderm is doing a brilliant job of SPF and moisturising my skin during the day and;
Goldfaden MD - Wake up call is doing great things to my skin overnight.
I'm using PC 2% BHA once a week.
Using Dr Sams flawless cleanser most days.
Not drinking alcohol as I'm on a strict eating plan and I guess also less sugar.
My skin looks the best it has in ages.

EnidButton · 13/07/2018 09:37

Just been eyeing this Lancôme face scrub up, even though I know it's a terrible idea for me to use a manual scrub. I'm a marketers dream, pink packaging, 'sugar' 'syrup' 'honey' 'warming', I'm all over it. Blush
www.lancome.co.uk/skincare/by-product-category/masks-exfoliators/rose-sugar-scrub/A00935-LAC.html?utm_source=BAU&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Body4Image&utm_campaign=2018-July_PinkAnimation&dl_uiUser=
Although ingredients don't look that bad to me.

• GLYCERIN • PROPYLENE GLYCOL • SUCROSE • MEL / HONEY • CI 14700 / RED 4 • CI 17200 / RED 33 • SODIUM HYALURONATE • ARGANIA SPINOSA SHELL POWDER • PEG-30 DIPOLYHYDROXYSTEARATE • ARGININE • TRIETHANOLAMINE • TRIDECETH-6 • SALICYLIC ACID • PANTHENOL • PROPANEDIOL • ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER • ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER WATER • CITRIC ACID • PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS OIL / SWEET ALMOND OIL • PARFUM / FRAGRANCE •

The salicylic acid might make me resist.

I have lots of teeny tiny raised dots/spots on my forehead. Can't pin point a cause other than more sweating than usual maybe? I clip my fringe back most of the time at home and it gets washed everyday (just the fringe part, rest of hair is 2-3 tines a week). Never had it before so must be the heat.

I ramble more than usual on the mornings it seems. Hope everyone has a great day. It's cooler here with actual rain! Feels nice.

TantricTwist · 13/07/2018 10:30

enid you coud just add sugar to a face wash and get the same effect Grin I'm not joking

mintmagnummm · 13/07/2018 11:38

Enid don't do it, don't do it, don't do it 😬

mintmagnummm · 13/07/2018 11:38

I've gone back to IS clinical eclipse 50

mintmagnummm · 13/07/2018 16:59

Olli difflam spray worked a treat 👍🏻. But now I have a migraine!

RenardeRenarde · 13/07/2018 17:56

I’ve reverted back to missha safe block and my skin is very pleased - in just using this and vitamin c serum AM and the Superdrug pure serum in the evenings atm, my skin seems to have no interest in “product” right now. I’m used to running a minimal routine but this is spartan even for me!

TantricTwist · 13/07/2018 18:42

Thanks again Renarde for the bioderma SPF Smile your ultrasun is on its way.

TantricTwist · 13/07/2018 18:45

It's only a small tube so I'll pop a couple bits and bobs in for you to try skincare wise.

bumhead · 13/07/2018 19:09

I bought the Dr Sam cleanser of the back of this thread and have been using it 3 days now. My skin is dry as a bone now and feels really tight. Is anyone else finding this cleanser doing that?

mintmagnummm · 13/07/2018 19:19

My skin didn't like the dr Sam cleanser.

banivani · 13/07/2018 23:07

I haven’t tried the cleanser but I wonder if that minute of massaging might not be the culprit for some of you?

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 07:49

Bani it's defo not that for me as I massage my other cleansers for about a minute too.

JDSTER · 14/07/2018 09:54

pupsie 4 bottles of pink 👍Grin

JDSTER · 14/07/2018 09:55

I might’ve sent the link to Sephora and drunk 🐘 Vit C to DH.....

JDSTER · 14/07/2018 10:00

Sorry for triple post but re Dr Sam cleanser, ultimately it’s a gel wash off cleanser and I would’ve thought more suitable for a normal to oilier skin which I think Dr Sam has, although she does get some redness. I can’t imagine it’s the best choice for those with a dryer more sensitive skin. I’m not saying that’s the issue with those of you who haven’t got on with it, just an observation. Regardless of whether a dermatologist has had a say in its development doesn’t mean it’s going to be great for everyone. I suspect it would be good for me and my oilier skin but I’ve got loads of cleansers.

mintmagnummm · 14/07/2018 10:06

JDSTER I agree that as it's a wash off gel in theory its better for combination/oily skin, however she does state that it's is for all skin types and issues and doesn't leave the skin feeling tight. My skin isn't dry and it was not good for me at all. I guess it's just a case of what works for one doesn't always work for another.

Pupsiecola · 14/07/2018 11:40

I'm sure the Bioderma shower gel is causing my leg hair to grow faster 😂. I'm not a very hairy person (it's ALL on my head lol) but I seem to be needing to shave more often?!

Pupsiecola · 14/07/2018 11:41

JDSTER I know! I love it. I do wish they did bigger bottles.
