Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

aha Mint it would appear that maybe your eye make up remover is the cuprit behind your stinging eyes.

I have had eyemake up removers where my skin still stings the next day with any subsequent cream etc I appy to my face.

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 08:16

Enid it was me who had that shower gel before, I really disliked it! It made my skin feel dry and itchy after my shower.

Tant definitely not my eye make up remover as it was my tried and trusted pink bioderma. Will be using cleanser again soon, wish me luck....

Talking of eye make up remover, the Vichy bi phase one I bought a while ago DOES irritate my eyes!

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 08:18

Dr Sam is bringing out actives and spf later this year 😬🤪😍

Pupsiecola · 01/07/2018 08:37

Enid I have the Atoderm. I have no issues with it. I thought that was the one everyone was racing about; is it not?!

LapsedHumanist · 01/07/2018 09:19

mintmagnummm John Masters Blood Orange and Vanilla is lovely. Smells like sweeties.

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 11:14

@botemp I'm really sorry for tagging you but I just wanted to check you're ok?? 💐

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 11:14

Lap thanks for that I'll see if I can find it stocked anywhere near me so I can have a sniff

EnidButton · 01/07/2018 12:03

Pupsie It's the oil one that I really like. I haven't tried the gel one. I just bought the oil again this time.

Mint she's on the French style thread. Thanks for the shower gel info. I've skipped buying it and stuck to the oil.

miffy2 · 01/07/2018 12:04

OK it's going to be a long post:

AM
Cleanse with LRP Hydrating cleanser
(I was using P50 here but have dropped due to the appearance of the sun)
Vichy mineral water spray (I don’t pat this off as I prefer to apply serums on damp skin)
Pestle & Mortar HA
Olay ultimate eyes
Drunk Elephant C Firma
Drunk Elephant Protini or Belif True Cream Moisturising Bomb
SPF - one of: TBS Skin Defence, Frezyderm, Eucerin Daily Protection (I find if I switch them up occasionally my skin doesn’t react and my make up sits better for some reason)

PM
First cleanse - Kate Somerville cold cream, Bioderma micellar to remove eye makeup
Second cleanse - LRP hydrating cleanser
Hada Labo premium HA
Kiehl’s midnight recovery eyes/Verso eye cream on alternate nights
P&M superstar retinol oil 3/4 nights a week
The other 3/4 nights I use Max stem cell cream from Image (Note: I used a couple of trial sizes before buying and wow, it made a huge difference to my frown lines. I may use this every night in July/August and cut the P&M just to give it a good run)
DE Lala Retro cream/Cerave PM lotion/Cerave moisturising lotion
sometimes I add 2 drops of TO marula oil to my cream if needed

EMPTIES from May and June as I forgot to post last month
BR P50 small bottle - love and have a large replacement but not using it until September
Skin Actives C serum - was nice to use, definitely improved a lumpy bump on my temple but the colour changed before the bottle was empty so I had to bin it early. Will trial others before RP-ing
Superdrug serum - nice and light and I already have backups. Use occasionally.
TBS cleansing balm - very nice, great for winter months. Great at removing makeup. Will RP later in the year.
Garnier honey toner - fine. Not using toners right now, prefer to spritz with Vichy mineral water instead.
TBS almond and honey shower gel - love this. Probably have a backup somewhere in the pile!
L’Occitane cherry blossom shower gel - another fave. Won’t RP for now as I have too many others
Vichy Mineral 89 serum. Love this. HG status for AM. I alternate bottles of this with P&M so I will RP when it is time.
Cerave Hydrating cleanser. This is one I bought in the US. I will RP when I go there in the autumn
Clarins multi-comfort foundation - HG foundation. Discontinued but snagged another one on eBay.
Jergen’s gradual tan. Another US purchase. It is really really good and I miss it. Will have to source it somehow!
I also binned a bunch of out of date products including LRP serozinc (wasn’t really suitable for my skin), some Neutrogena SPFs that were too old to use, an Olay regentrist serum and some TO bottles and tubes that I can’t even remember but bought ages ago. Trying to cull what I won’t ever use again and stick to what works.

ON TRIAL
Frezyderm spf - really like this, but I don’t wear it every day. Sits lovely under my foundation.
DE lala retro cream and Protini - very happy with both of these but very expensive and I probably won’t repurchase
DE tinted umbra - perfect for days when I don't want to apply foundation but it is extremely glowy so I pat on some powder
KS cold cream cleanser - also expensive but I love it! It has a very light texture for a cold cream, removes all my makeup and is a pleasure to apply. Will probably RP when the time comes but only at a discount!
Garnier gradual tan - horrible stuff, bought it to try and replace my Jergen’s from the US but it was smelly, patchy and gave me giraffe skin as it wore off. Binned.

PLANNED PURCHASES
Dr Sam Bunting cleanser (of course)
GOW vitamin C (to see if I like it as much as the £££ DE)
Pyunkang Yul mist
Neostrata NAG retinol
Jergen’s gradual tan (via a forwarding service at some stage!)

SPECIAL MENTION
I have stopped acid toning for the summer (although I will miss my P50!) as my skin is quite sun-reactive and I don’t want to cause more problems. Also I have decided to pause the use of Retin A as I have noticed some broken capillaries on my cheeks. OTC retinol is working well enough for me for now.

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 12:35

Enid oh cool thanks for that, she's just ignoring us then 😜😂

ClosdesMouches · 01/07/2018 12:54

Can anyone help me with French online pharmacies please? I've been lurking on these threads for months and have seen two mentioned.
Can't remember their name and can't search on long threads due to a glitch which MNHQ have been aware of for months but not yet sorted out. So sorry to be a pain but if anyone can recommend any please do.

I'm very interested in the Dr Sam cleanser, I'll probably buy that later today (baaa !).

ClosdesMouches · 01/07/2018 12:59

The Dr Sam cleanser is now a minimum 3-5 working day delay. before dispatch.
Just ordered and used Apple Pay for the first time

TantricTwist · 01/07/2018 13:05

Clos This

ClosdesMouches · 01/07/2018 13:08

Thanks Tantric that is indeed one of the ones I'd seen on a previous thread.

TantricTwist · 01/07/2018 13:28

Yes they're really good and delivery is fairly swift and some items are so much cheaper. So good for stocking up with your favourite items.

ClosdesMouches · 01/07/2018 14:58

Great, thanks Tantric.

banivani · 01/07/2018 17:10

Bo is fine, ive ”seen” her on the French thread. :)

My congested chin and jawline area is breaking out with tiny little
Whiteheads and looks very splotchy and ugly. I think it’s the sunscreen that doesn’t agree with me on the whole. Shame that - seems like I can’t fix this. Too much product overloads the area, using actives tends to stress the skin ... tricky.

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 17:40

Bani I get little whiteheads when my skin doesn't like something. What are you using?

Shop · 01/07/2018 17:55

Escentual have their 1/3 off French Pharmacy Offer in at the moment. Going to try the Bioderma shower oil I think

banivani · 01/07/2018 19:13

Routine atm is basic because didn’t want to bring much on holiday.

AM
eucerin face wash dermatoclean sometimes with konjac sponge
Estelle & Thild moisturiser
Sunscreen - ACO anti-age or Cosrx one
Missha B.B. cream

PM
Oil cleanser from Mizon
Face wash as above with konjac sponge
Beaute Pacifique clinical super 3 booster

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 19:56

I'm not sure about the dr Sam cleanser 😭

banivani · 01/07/2018 20:04

Bummer. Because? Skin sore?

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 20:12

It stings my eyes and leaves them feeling irritated after, skin feels a little more taut after cleansing than usual

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 20:12

And I have just felt a sore lump on cheek so a spot is brewing

mintmagnummm · 01/07/2018 20:20

Need to decide whether to go back to my ttdo balm followed by avene extremely gentle cleanser 🤔
