Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Chester bloody annoying isn't it!! Are you sensitive to chemical spf?

ChesterBelloc · 30/06/2018 08:09

bani, lavender oil is also very soothing for mosquito bites, and can be applied directly to the skin. And yes, maybe a little less time spent peering into the mirror is the best answer to my woes! Overall my skin is looking pretty healthy and glowy, so I should be thankful for that and stop obsessing over the minor details, I guess.

mint - I don't think I would be, my skins not sensitive (just my eyes!), but not sure I've ever tried one.

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 09:15

Chester if your not particularly sensitive finding an spf should be easier, although I doubt you will find one that's anything like the frezyderm!! I'm still gutted I can't use it!

miffy2 · 30/06/2018 10:35

Chester perhaps the hada labo premium is too rich to be using twice a day, this time of year. I have quite dehydrated skin and I only use two drops of it at night after cleansing. Maybe stop using it in the AM for a while and see how you go.

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 11:03

I do the opposite, use the ha serum in am before spf but have stopped using it at night and just using moisturiser

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 11:04

I'm testing another spf.....3rd day so far....

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 11:05

I bet my new cleanser comes today because I'm out all day 😭

ChesterBelloc · 30/06/2018 11:08

Closely following you and your exhaustive SPF research, mint!

Last night I left off the HA, just used my new CeraVe PM lotion. Think I'll try doing that for a while, HA in the morning, after cleansing and before SPF, and then just cleansing and CeraVe at night. Also maybe I'm using too much HA anyway..? Tend to do 3 drops, but it does take a while to sink in, and my face stays tacky for maybe too long...

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 12:20

Chester I have to have mineral spf though as I'm highly reactive, you may prefer the more 'dry touch' chemical ones.
If your skin feels tacky after your ha I'd definitely try using less. I use 1 pump of my mineral 89.

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 13:05

Got my cleanser, I popped home for something just as my postie was there!! 🎊🎉🥂🤪😍 sorry I'm a little excited 😂

TantricTwist · 30/06/2018 14:05

Chester take berocca if you can for the Vit C and Vit B, mozzies hate that in your blood. Failing that drink lots of OJ. Mozzies love it when you have drunk beer or lots of soft drinks so avoid those.

My Dr Sam Flawless cleanser arrived today yay.

TantricTwist · 30/06/2018 14:34

Just tried out the Dr Sam cleanser before going out and I love it.

It's a great consistency, nice clean face after, not too taught, this just might be The One. Perfect for my sensitive, combination skin anyway.

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 14:45

Tant I can't wait to use mine tonight! Really hope this is the one for me too!

TantricTwist · 30/06/2018 14:55

*taut - I mean

TantricTwist · 30/06/2018 14:56

I did apply it before wetting my face so just added water to my hands, it really does need a bit water with it.

Violet18 · 30/06/2018 15:04

And like a sheep (baaa!) my Dr Sam cleanser is on its way Grin Good to hear people are liking it. My Toleriane Dermo has been good but I have been using it as a double cleanse, which isn't ideal. Fingers crossed I like Dr Sam's (when it eventually arrives!!).

My Medik8 3TR is going well, only used a few times so far. Skin hasn't reacted and feels moisturised afterwards. I'm using minimal moisturiser now and only at night if my skin needs it.

GOW Niacinamide is good for use on non-retinol nights. Can't say I've noticed any difference to my pores but my skin is less oily and it seems to take spots down. My skin tone is slightly improved.

We've all had a tummy bug at home so missed a couple of my usual skincare routines and I can definitely see the negative effect on my skin!! Can't wait to get back to normality (and in a whisper... I can't wait for the heatwave to pass!)

What spf are you trialling @Mint?

Violet18 · 30/06/2018 15:06

@Tantric Do you think the Dr Sam's will work with a flannel (bit attached to mine!!)

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 15:50

Violet it's IS CLINICAL eclipse spf 50.

Violet18 · 30/06/2018 16:01

Spf looks good @Mint. Bit on the ££ side, but I don't mind paying if it works.

Fingers crossed it's your HG. Interested to see how you get on with the Dr Sam's being of sensitive eye, like myself Wink

ROUTINE

AM

Cosrx Low pH morning cleanser
Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner - every other morning
DE Vit C
DE Hyrdra or Clarins Blue Orchid Oil on cheeks if required
A light swoosh of Cosrx Oil Free Moisturising Lotion
SPF - currently Eucerin. Waiting on two from Biore

PM

Clinique TTDO or Dr Sam Bunting Flawless Cleanser (mostly the latter this month)
Pestle and Mortar Superstar Retinol Night Oil - every other night
Verso Eye Serum - every other night
Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrator or Clarins Blue Orchid Oil on cheeks if required
Cerave PM Night Lotion

EMPTIES

DE Vit C - restocked after 2 months without
Phyto Clarifying Shampoo - absolutely love this. Use it about once a fortnight. Gorgeous fresh smell. Have repurchased

ON TRIAL

Pestle and Mortar Superstar Retinol Night Oil - loving it so far and tolerating it every other night
Dr Sam Bunting Flawless Cleanser - just used it. Never used a jelly cleanser before. Wasn't sure if I needed to add water, but I did. As someone else said, it needs it. Really liked it though. Ever so slightly tingly but not like the LRP one. No redness afterwards, and skin not as tight as usual afterwards. Fingers crossed
Biore UV Aqua Riche (when it arrives)
Biore UV Perfect Bright Milk (when it arrives)
Bioderma Shower Oil

PLANNED PURCHASES

Nothing - last month was a bit spendy with the Vit C and the P&M

SPECIAL MENTION

DE Vit C - I have been using LRP, and then Vichy for the last 2 months but they’re not a patch on DE. 5 days in and I feel my skin is looking brighter again

Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Primer - absolutely love this. It makes my fair feel softer, easier/quicker to dry and less frizzy

ChesterBelloc · 30/06/2018 17:01

It was banivani who had mozzie issues, Tant, not me - but I will pass those tips on to my husband and daughter, who are both super-sensitive to mosquito bites and end up worth massive red infected areas around them.

Violet pls do update us with l how you get on with the Medik8 3TR, as I'm considering that myself.

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 17:11

Violet I thought that too but it's double size of most!

banivani · 30/06/2018 17:43

I got the vitamin b tip from a cousin too but we’re going home soon now so I might just use up the repellent instead of trying to look for supplements. :)

mintmagnummm · 30/06/2018 19:36

Used the cleanser! Love the jelly texture, it definitely needs wet hands or damp face to allow it to spread, I did the recommended 2 pumps and massaged for 1 minute then removed with my flannel. Skin felt nice and clean BUT I'm not sure if it stung my eyes, it could just be that some mascara got in (I did remove most of mascara first though) I'll use it again in the morning and see. I bloody hope it doesn't sting my eyes, I will be devastated 😭

EnidButton · 30/06/2018 22:04

Has anyone used Bioderma atoderm shower gel, the blue one? Reordering the shower oil as I haven't used it for a couple of weeks and the pink dots where I shave my shins are back. Anyway wondering about trying the gel too and I'm sure one of you had it.
