Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

TantricTwist - I know quite a lot about Caudalie (the company as well as the products). I’ve also stayed at their spa near Bordeaux.

Caudalie products are not ones I would spend my own money on.

TantricTwist · 21/06/2018 17:24

User1499 that's good to hear because I decided last night not to go for the Lookfantastic £35 Caudalie box after all. I couldnt work out how grapes would be of benefit to me unless Wine

TantricTwist · 21/06/2018 17:32

fluffycloud you are disolving the TO Vit C powder in a moisturiser yes? quarter to half of the tiny plastic spoon they give you?

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/06/2018 18:31

No, estee lauder anr. The ordinary said I could dissolve in water and dab it on the pigmentation at night 30 minutes after buffet with copper.

SallieSallow · 21/06/2018 19:03

Sorry I've not been round much, I've got visitors and am also somewhat World Cup obsessed Blush

I got a cerave moisturiser in a tube from timeless U.K. which seems to be the same as the PM one ingredients wise but doesn't say PM and the packaging is different. Not tried it yet but will report back once I do.

I love hamsters 🐹 had lots growing up as well as gerbils and guinea pigs and I love rats too 🐀 yours is super cute Mint ❤️

I'm still using and liking frezyderm, still loving the toleriane hydrating cleanser and still haven't pulled the plug on a new Vit c or an eye cream. I'm keeping my routine pretty basic/simple at the moment as doing a fair bit of travelling and having a lot of late nights so nothing much else to report.

From my most recent haul I really like the bioderma itchy skin body moisturiser, it's a spray so super handy too. Very happy with the hourglass veil powder but not too sure about the blusher, it's nice but doesn't show up much on me at all. I haven't tried the veil primer yet as don't think I need it with frezyderm. Not massively keen on the eyeko mascaras I got as find them a bit claggy, but I had a voucher so they didn't cost much.

Back to the football now ⚽️ Grin

bonfireheart · 21/06/2018 21:44

Anyone else just not get on with The Ordinary products?
The Buffet made my facial fair grow where I've never had it before, the primer made me come out with white pimples, the niacinamide made my pores open up, the Azelaic Acid made my skin go so dry and the Rosehip Oil made made my acne flare up worse than it ever has done.

The NMF moisturiser is so so. I like the AHA BHA peel. I also use sanskrit Saponins, not sure it's doing anything but I just like the texture of it.

I've still got a few of their products I haven't even tried (Buffet with Copper Peptides, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Alpha Arbutin, Grenactive Retinoid 2% in Squalene, and the Salicylic Acid).

I was hoping it'd be everything that everyone hyped it up to be - maybe what you pay is what you get?

[slides sideways into thread]

So hiya all ... I’ve been dipping in and out of the skincare threads but can’t seem to keep up and am feeling so resentful against my skin and skincare atm so I just get frustrated. Would like to keep going though to keep in touch with you knowledgeable people. :)

My skin just never gets uncongested and just when I think I am seeing improvement it goes worse again. Just as with clothes it frustrates me that simple things are so hard to get. The amount of time spent “sourcing” products that have to be ordered online is ridiculous and then I still look like shit.

I’ve also gone off the ordinary except that I’m trying the vitamin c plus HA thing and I quite like it. However ... I’m super bumpy and mini mini blackheady around my mouth for one and I don’t knoooow is it making it worse? I’ve gone on holiday now and brought very little on purpose.

Cleansing oil was bought on offer in a massive bottle from bangerhead.se - mizon kings berry cleansing oil. It stings my eyes but I’ll have to use it up now. Massive bottle.

Eucerin dermatoclean cleansing gel - nice and basic but not really my favourite in the world. I think I prefer the Cosrx good morning one, but I just wanted to go to the chemists and get one, you know? Am going to use it with a konjac sponge religiously for the holiday to see if that gentle exfoliation can help my pores.

Impulse bought Estelle&Thild moisturiser on sale. Because something something antioxidants. Don’t think it’s doing anything.

At night I’m using my Beauté Pacifique clinical super 3 booster that cost me MONEY and that really DID something. At first. Until i repurchased maybe. Sigh.

Sunscreen is currently ACO anti-age (suspect it does break me out but am using it up anyway because am at the seaside) and the cosrx one that my daughter didn’t like and gave me. I quite like it formula-wise.

bonfireheart · 21/06/2018 22:37

banivani Interesting you mention the Corsx. I bought that and the Hylamide High Efficiency Cleanser from lookfantastic on the same. Usually I introduce one product at a time and only start another new one after 2/3 weeks. Without paying attention I started using both as double cleanse and within three days my face was awful! It was like I had eczema- so dry and actually physically peeling off. I've stopped using them both. With slowly use one and see if I can figure out which is the culprit! If it is the Hylamide coz it was pricey and it's a big bottle that is now useless :-/
Have heard great things about the Vit c but I've banned myself from buying any new products (although I have a substantial wish list!)

SophieLion · 22/06/2018 05:49

Banivani, I could be completely wrong so feel free to disregard but.... when I was at my dermatologist the other day, I asked if I could start vit C again and she said no because my chin is still acne-prone and she said there have been (rare?) cases where vit C can cause black spots in people who are acne prone.
Now: First I can't remember exactly what she said and secondly we were speaking in Greek so I am not sure of exact translation in English and if she meant was blackheads or not. Your post just reminded me of what she said.

mintmagnummm · 22/06/2018 06:08

Sophie been meaning to tell you I have booked honeymoon to Greece! Couldn't afford santorini unfortunately though :-(

MrsDOnofrio · 22/06/2018 07:24

mintmagnummm · 22/06/2018 08:02

Thank you for the rat compliments everyone 😍😍.
I'm such a massive animal lover, I never kill spiders and I get the hump when I see children stepping on ants thinking it's funny! 😤🤬

banivani · 22/06/2018 08:16

Sophie See I can’t recall how congested my skin was before I started the vit C 🤔 because I never approach new things scientifically haha. I don’t want to! I just want things to work! I want to be like all my friends who can run any old hand cream on their faces on the days when they’re feeling a little dry 🙄 and be fine!

TantricTwist · 22/06/2018 09:31

Bani yes if that was case re hand cream on face for us then we wouldn't be on here searching the holy grails of products to suit us.

I have to say I don't get on with Vit C, HA or Niacinamide in any shape or form that are high on the INCI list.

Luckily my skin loves retinol and BHA in any shape or form so that works for me.

TantricTwist · 22/06/2018 09:42

Bani. Paulas Choice Skin perfecting BHA 2% is excellent at decongesting skin because the Salicylic acid helps break down the biofilm on your skin helping it to heal.

Then retinol and derivatives thereof etc applied the next day or the same day (if your feeling brave and have tough skin) is able to penetrate deeper to work on your skin to renew it.

Pupsiecola · 22/06/2018 10:31

So happy to have my DH back from NY Grin

mintmagnummm · 22/06/2018 10:53

Tant or bani I have a small size of the Paula's choice bha, my skin doesn't like it so if either of you would like it let me know.

Pupsie are you glad he's home because you missed him or because you wanted your products 😂

Pupsiecola · 22/06/2018 10:56

Both mint lol. Hopefully by the time this DE runs out they'll be on sale in the UK.

TantricTwist · 22/06/2018 11:01

Mint that's so kind of you, I already have a large bottle of it so if Bani wants it it's hers.

Pupsie yay

Ollie your eyes always look so amazing.

Ollivander84 · 22/06/2018 11:11

Tantric - thank you! Only two eyeshadows slapped on and some eyeliner

mintmagnummm · 22/06/2018 11:11
