Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Does anyone know what the UVA rating for the Frezyderm is?

I am liking it a lot. I don't use a primer, and am conscious of my pores (but I do use a magnified mirror lol). My tinted moisturiser sits well on top. Although I have been taking more care with application of the TM. A tip I picked up from Hannah Martin at the event last week. I sort of warm my fingers up a bit by rubbing them together than firmly press my skin with my hands for a couple of seconds at a time. She explained it as helping the skincare/spf/make up sort of meld together. I really noticed that today with the frezyderm. It improved the appearance of my pores.

ChesterBelloc · 17/05/2018 11:13

What's likely to be the difference between the Frezyderm body SPF50 and the face version (apart from the price)..?

ChesterBelloc · 17/05/2018 11:15

And Mapless, would the tinted version work on a pale-faced, blue-eyed type of person..? How dark is it?

SophieLion · 17/05/2018 13:06

Argh keep forgetting to try the Frezyderm tinted sample/tester and report back. Sorry.
Will do next time I'm in pharmacy

SophieLion · 17/05/2018 13:07

I can see if they have a tester for the body one Chester

ChesterBelloc · 17/05/2018 13:49

Thanks Sophie Thanks

TantricTwist · 17/05/2018 17:11

Hmm so I wore my lrp spf as usual under my Nars TM and it went very dry, flaky and patchy today so I think I'll use the Frezyderm more from now on.

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2018 17:13

I'm loving the frezyderm with my nars on top

TantricTwist · 17/05/2018 18:59

mint funny ha ha

EnidButton · 17/05/2018 20:27

Sorry I'm not answering any questions or keeping up. Being a bit selfish. Blush

Ahem. Has anyone got pale white skin with blue inner corner circles and uses Bobbi Brown corrector? Which shade do you use please?

I have Laura M under eye corrector (or whatever it's called) and it's good but I seem to remember the Bobbi B one was better. Can't remember which shade I used though and the shade range is wider since I last bought it.

BrewCake

Ollivander84 · 17/05/2018 20:45

Slightly off topic but I know people asked about food! My tea from yesterday and today (I had some homemade mayo with the fishcake)

Ooh that's looks lovely Olli! You've made me actually want to eat something now. Smile Looks really fresh.

I used the Bobbi Brown online chat service where an advisor chats directly to you on site. So I know which shade to get now. It was really helpful, would recommend.

Ollivander84 · 17/05/2018 20:55

Nobody ever told me how good sea salt is on cherry tomatoes. Cannot stop eating them Blush

Ollivander84 · 17/05/2018 20:56

Also please ignore my insane cutlery. I feel that Botemp will feel the same way about it as she does my unicorn makeup brushes Grin

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2018 21:54

I had a fish finger sandwich today for lunch with salad leaves and cucumber. Didn't have wheat for breakfast or dinner today which is why I had bread at lunch

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2018 21:54

Olli I always put salt on tomatoes, it's lovely!

TantricTwist · 17/05/2018 22:18

Olli thats looks delicious. I often just have tomato on toast with a bit of salt. I used to always have avocado on toast with lemon juice till everyone decided they liked it too, now they are always too hard in the shops.
I had a BLT for lunch and a pear and another BLT when I got home followed by 4 pepperidge farm cookies and that's all I've eaten.

My eyes are stinging to buggery and I have no idea why Confused actually maybe from vit C last night applied a couple of hours after BHA. I'll go easy round the eyes next time. Not sure why they are stinging now though after taking off make up etc theyve been fine all day, but I have had wierd dry patches.

Ollivander84 · 17/05/2018 22:23

I'm a big fan of the merchant gourmet mixed grains, ready to eat and you can have them hot or cold. Good to chuck in a salad

EnidButton · 17/05/2018 23:43

I like a pimped up salad. Never tried salt on tomatoes! I've been missing out. I'll try it tomorrow.

I pinned that cutlery ages ago Olli and then they sold out. So I'm Envy

I'm buying beauty bits whilst putting off dress buying, so far reordered redken heatcure masks and skyn eye gels. Also NARS creamy concealer, face razors and some hand mask gloves that were a daft buy really. Starskin ones. Good reviews so we'll see.

Next on the list is Anastasia eyebrow powder, a bronzer, which I've never worn in my life, and a Burberry eyeshadow pencil. Maybe hourglass powder because I won't be near a store anytime soon. Might go full fuck it and get a sparkly wet eyeshadow from Stila and a blusher from MAC. ✨

EnidButton · 17/05/2018 23:44

Oh and the MUFE hd powder pressed because I can't pull out the loose one in public because puffs up everywhere.

TantricTwist · 18/05/2018 10:10

That's a lot of lovely stuff enid
I have a lovely sample of benefit eye brow powder in 2 shades which also comes with a brush. The bronzer I use is a matte one from Superdrug, Revolution ultra bronze not a hint of glitter or orange.

I ordered some Japanese / korean items - biore and hada labo - yesterday from a decent site using paypal and I have no idea if its gone through or not because I dont have a confirmation email. I guess I'll just have to wait and see Confused

I have just run 5 miles on my cross trainer - and I'm working from home today so I'm hoing I will be pumped full of endorphines and get loads done.

TantricTwist · 18/05/2018 10:17

I've just clicked back onto the site and my items are still in the basket, I think my wifi was a bit slow and wierd last night. I might leave it actually.

Those of you using Biore SPF aqua riche watery essence, BO how do find the alcohol content? Im a bit concerned it will dry out my face.

And the Hada labo gokujyun HA lotion moist - is it worth getting? Does it do much? How do I use it? under SPF am and moisturiser pm?

TantricTwist · 18/05/2018 10:31

OMG I'm such a wierdo - I literally have just welled up because Prince Charles will be walking Meghan down the Aisle tomorrow which I think is adorable.

SophieLion · 18/05/2018 13:12

Right have now tried the Frezyderm tinted SPF (wearing it now in fact).

I don't normally wear tinted moisturiser or B.B. cream etc etc during the day so it's a little odd for me to see myself with this type of product on my skin (bear this in mind with what I say below!).

The colour is ok I think (maybe slightly too dark). I'm quite pale but not completely white - so e.g. I use touché eclat no. 2 and normally use one up from the palest shade in concealers. Tinted version also not heavy coverage: I can still see the freckles on my nose and cheeks. It looks smooth and nice finish but I think I could also have blended in a bit better round my hairline (no patience and short of time!).

I, personally, much prefer the consistency of the normal Frezyderm SPF. It feels more hydrating/moisturising and I prefer the jelly-like texture. The normal one was also easier to spread around. The tinted one didn't spread as easily (it's much more like proper make-up than an SPF) and felt more drying when it was going on (feels ok now actually). A bit suspicious as it is so different to a normal suncream - I was tempted to put the normal Frezyderm on top of the tinted one but that would just be silly Grin

Please feel free to ask anything if I didn't cover anything you specifically wanted to know.
Oh pharmacy didn't have the body version. They did have an SPF 80 version which I think you put on sensitive areas or on moles etc.

Tant, yes that is lovely that Prince Charles will walk Meghan down the aisle. Must remember to watch tomorrow.

ChesterBelloc · 18/05/2018 13:58

Thanks very much, Sophie, I'll think I'll give the regular one a try first then.
