Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Maybe tant although I really didn't want to buy a separate spf just for around eyes.

My dhc oil is being delivered today (I have amazon prime now woo hoo) looking forward to trying it out tonight.

Maybe try the other SPF's just around your eyes then Mint as they probably are less likely to slide.

I've tried that too tant and didn't like it lol. I really don't want to stop using frezyderm as I love it! Will carry on using and just see how it goes, hopefully it's got nothing to do with my eyes!

Mint I also use LRP Antihelios spf, it leaves a white cast but its fine under make up LRP Antihelios

LRP seem to have brought out a new Comfort SPF LRP Comfort SPF which might suit you

JDSTER alternativesly you could just use any balm cleanser just for your eyes such as Emma Hardie or Clinique TTDO

Thank you Tant i have used ultra sun before and hated it! It was awful on me, stung, drying, heavy, felt like I had cling film on my face lol and made face itchy.

TantricTwist · 10/06/2018 09:17

Yes JDSTER I use the nivea double effects eye remover - the one you have to shake Nivea double effect

Mint yes what Sallie says re pollen, that happens to me too.

It could be Mint that your eyes are sore / sensitive from what you have put on it the night before which then effects what you put on it in the morning. An alternative spf I use and like is Ultrasun face

JDSTER did you see my spf question to you up above? You posted a reply at the same time I asked so you may have missed it. Also I have used that Nivea bi phase one and it stung!

Sallie I'm not sure about hayfever, I do suffer with it however my eyes started stinging literally straight after I did my routine! It's really annoying me as I have to keep wiping my eye which is making them sore and the corners red! I wiped so much yesterday my lids were crusty!

You lot are far too chatty! Wanted to get a sheet I'd been working on for far too long up in the next thread OP so I've been sweating away trying to get it finished this morning before you all fill this one up. I've managed it somehow, may need to do a proper proofread still but here's the new thread:

🐌 Fantastic Skincare: In the Garden of Wisdom there is always room for Cicaplast ❤️

and newest sheet (with product recs, which still make me uneasy but I figure if you've managed to read through 3K of my drivel you can have a cold rec):

Violet18, My eyes have also reacted very badly to the Frezyderm (tho I have the body one not the face one). I'm not applying it particularly near them (stopping at my eyebrows, and not going right up under my lower lids), but if any does migrate (sweating/rubbing/crying!) it's extremely painful, and for a long time!

I'm still using it, just being even more cautious in how/where I apply it, and washing my hands after Confused

Mint it could be hayfever/allergies making your eyes sore rather than any product, the pollen count varies so some days will be higher than others which would explain why it happens a bit randomly. My eyes are sore today (and I've not done any routine or makeup yet!) so suspect the pollen count is high.

Good luck today Olli

Thanks for that mint I’m using by a sample of ‘they’re real’ mascara by benefit and my usual Bioderma not cutting it. Tant is is Nivea you use? The bi-phase one, blue colour? Is it oily?

Report
mintmagnummm · 10/06/2018 08:34

JDSTER I know you didn't get on with frezyderm (for a different reason) what spf do you use on face?

Report
mintmagnummm · 10/06/2018 08:32

My eyes are stinging so bad again! Just done my routine so am wondering if it could indeed be frezyderm?? Seems odd though as the stinging has only just started to happen and I've been using frezy for a while now! Haven't done make up yet so it's nothing to do with mascara etc. 🤔

Report
mintmagnummm · 10/06/2018 07:41

It doesn't sting my hyper sensitive eyes at all, removes mascara with ease and doesn't dry the skin around my eyes. I usually use the bioderma micellar which I love but I do find it quite drying around my eyes which makes them look even more haggard than they already are!

Tant Re. morning workouts no, I don't feel particularly energised - in fact, I feel absolutely spent after doing one of my heavy weight session... now, if I was doing a nice jog along the seafront it would be a different matter :)

Olli Good luck tomorrow!

I am Footnering! I know how to party on a Saturday night :)

Pupsie It was the first week of a new program so I had horrific DOMS all week... it's just abated now but back in the gym on Monday. Another 5 weeks of this and I'll start cutting...

Mint I use and love the DHC oil, with a flannel mind you...

Nofilter obv can't diagnose etc but that does look like rosacea to me. At the milder end so some proper topical treatment from the GP might clear it up quite quickly. Worth a try, nothing to lose.

Miffy you did indeed and I looked on iHerb but the shipping was pretty expensive, so I parked it in the hope it would appear in boots soon. I think I'm being such a miser about it as it used be £12/£13 with free p&p on amazon prime and it's cheap as chips in the US so I get all huffy about paying more Grin
