Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Sophie any of these are good but esp the oil free one - for me anyway - top left.

TantricTwist · 20/05/2018 20:43

Sophie I posted the nadine Baggot videos, what did you need to know?

Nadine Baggot is the lady I watched too, not sure where I got hotandflashy from (guess I must have watched some of her too) but Nadine is the one I really like.

I don't use primer Sophie as never found they did much and frezyderm works just as well as a makeup base as most primers IMO. I did get some samples of a very expensive REN one that I liked but it wasn't a miracle worker by any means and the full size is expensive. The samples are on eBay for a couple of ££ if you wanted to try it. I still need to use my samples up but it's quite watery so not sure how well it will work over frezyderm.

Interesting about cerave PM changing formula, that's a shame as I loved the original one. I take it the LRP one is only in the US as well? I might just stick to FAB and/or Eucerin as I'm happy with them, I just liked cerave as it had the ceramides and niacinamide.

JDSTER · 20/05/2018 21:23

sophie I stopped using primer a few months ago, I felt it was clogging my skin somewhat. Based on a video that Dr Sam did, I ditched primer and ELDW and my skin is much better - less SFs for sure. I was using an oil free primer as well but I suspect most primers are comedogenic by their very nature.

Thanks for the pics Ollie the ethereal glow looks a really good shade for me. Think the other two might be slightly warmer than I'd like so still liking the hourglass one best.
Love your pjs.

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2018 00:37

This was yesterday's makeup (blush was ice pop)

Lovely Olli very glowing and I like the pop of colour on your lips.

SophieLion · 21/05/2018 07:17

Redness on face has calmed down a lot today (thank goodness) and I was able to put on my SPF without it stinging.

Hi Tant, I just wanted to re-watch the video and her discussion of side-effects of using tret. The Hot and Flashy ones are interesting though and she was talking about primer and its uses, hence my primer question.

Tant - which Smashbox primer do you recommend in particular? the link went straight to the Smashbox homepage.

Sallie - noted that Frezyderm is a good primer but I want to use a primer in the evening! Currently got the Laura Mercier one but think it's running out.

JDSTER - ooo I definitely don't want to go back to skin clogging and spots....

Gorgeous photo Olli. I want to get a fuchsia lipstick too (matt) and saw some nice Smashbox ones but there seems to be a fine line between fuchsia and neon pink (which I don't want!)

I'm compiling notes on all the make-up now. Hourglass is a brand, right?

botemp · 21/05/2018 07:34

Sophie, Skincity sell Laura Mercier and ship it for free throughout Europe. SpaceNK only charge something like €5 to ship under €70, free above it. They sell both Laura Mercier and Hourglass (which, yes, is a US brand). SpaceNK often has a £15 off £60 and above spend offer going.

So my Frezyderm is here and I've put it on before moisturiser as advised on here. Do I put moisturiser on top? Do I still use primer (Smashbox)

My skin does feel quite velvety and I don't have that tight feeling I usually have before I put the moisturiser on.

botemp · 21/05/2018 08:12

No, not as advised on here Confused

Sunscreen is always the last step of your skincare routine, preferably with a bit of time before it to let everything settle in and after before applying makeup. A lot of us go without moisturiser with the Frezyderm, perhaps you're misremembering that?

Do I remember correctly that you've had Microblading, Olli? If so, and if it was in London, would you mind sharing where/with whom?

BlessYawnBless · 21/05/2018 08:34

Morning everyone.

My face is still sore after briefly testing that PC sunscreen on Saturday morning. It doesn't look too red but it still feels tight and a bit delicate. Because of that, last night I just did a basic cleanse and moisturise so I haven't started my routine properly. I've used the PC BHA on and off for about 15 years in different formulations and I know that my skin gets on well with it but I didn't want to chance it last night whilst skin is still sensitive.

I'm walking to an appointment later this morning. I'll be outisde for about 40 minutes total so it will be a good test for my Frezyderm. There isn't a cloud in the sky today, it's gorgeous here.

Olli, lovely summery make up look!

Bo, not only are you so knowledgable about skincare, ingredients etc but I love how you know so many different resources for actually buying the products. Smile
I'm going to order the LRP from EPP as you mentioned it, I noticed they also sell the Skinceuticals sunscreen that I tried a couple of years ago. This one is tinted but the tint works with my skin, whereas most tints just turn orange. It seemed to disappear from sale for a while, not sure if it was being reformulated but will get a bottle of it and see how I get on with it.

BlessYawnBless · 21/05/2018 08:36

LRP Toleriance Cleanser is what I'm referring to from EPP. The one I'd seen Dr Sam talk about.

OllyBJolly · 21/05/2018 08:54

Ah - so primer before Frezyderm then make up on top?

botemp · 21/05/2018 09:01

No primer is part of your makeup routine not skincare, so after SPF. Though I don't know if there's any benefit in using a primer on top of Frezyderm, it's pretty much like a primer on its own.

TantricTwist · 21/05/2018 09:13

Sophie Smashbox - The original photo finish smooth and blur or the purple minimize pores - the consistency is just like Frezyderm. They might have another one that suits you better but those are ones I really like.

TantricTwist · 21/05/2018 09:14

Olly no moisturiser, no primer - just Frezyderm on its own then make up

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2018 10:04

Chester - I had micropigmentation which is done with a single needle tattoo machine but not in London sadly!

SophieLion · 21/05/2018 10:51

Olli - what brand and colour lipstick are you wearing in that photo? I like the matt finish.

Bo - thank you so much Flowers I had no idea I could order LM for free here!!! Will be checking that out as I know what I use in LM. I think I need to actually see the Hourglass colours live though before ordering anything so I don't get the wrong thing.

Tant - thank you. I'll look at those live. Didn't know Smashbox was founded by grandsons of Max Factor...

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2018 11:00

It's colourpop ultra matte liquid lipstick in 1st base Smile

EnidButton · 21/05/2018 12:03

Awful nights sleep. Got two hours max and kept waking up sweating with my heart racing. Skin looks drained. Stress, worry and lack of sleep have a huge impact on how your skin looks. Not that I care atm, just an observation. I think good skin definitely starts at base level with nutrition and sleep.

SophieLion · 21/05/2018 12:20

Oh Enid. Sending you ❤️ and Thanks and a big hug

SophieLion · 21/05/2018 12:21

Thank you Olli. Wouldn't have imagined that to be a liquid!
