Fab title!

Thanks for the Miss Dior info PIAM my PP dupe is pretty good but I hanker after the real thing. It's one of those perfumes that when I put it on it smells like me Smile

PerfumeIsAMessage · 18/03/2018 20:26

I have the PP dupe- it was one of the first PPs I ever bought. It's one that's a miss for me. I think PP is fantastic (I am currently rocking PP Samsara and it's ace) but there are some fragrances I don't think they can replicate. The classic Diors and Chanels spring to mind. I had PP Chanel 19 and it was unrecognisable. Newer ones (Dior Poison, Chanel Sycomore etc) are fine, but the old classics, not so much.

IFancyASliceOfCake · 18/03/2018 20:36

Thanks the new thread MrsG

SOTE is Truth or Dare. Wish it wasn’t Monday tomorrow...

auberginesrus · 18/03/2018 20:37

I definitely agree re no 19, its a pleasant enough scent but not that really that close to the original. Will have to go and give Miss Dior originale another sniff - although that could prove fatal for my finances!

UnnecessaryFennel · 18/03/2018 20:50

Love the thread title Smile

Just marking my place really. Off for an early night I think, hoping this stupid cold has receded by tomorrow. Thankfully not having to go into work though.

MrsGruber · 18/03/2018 20:56

Have you tried Les Nuits D'Hadrien PiaM. (Ed'H on an amber base). My favourite Smile. I tried to may Nuit Etoilee SotE to keep you company but my sample is MIA. (Hope not an accidental casualty of my latest sort out]. I like minty notes, so have run with ELd'O's You or Someone Like You instead. Plus some Or Black which smells pepperminty-clear to me in the herbal opening.

MrsGruber · 18/03/2018 20:59

Sorry - not very good at multi-tasking. PiaM - think that was supposed to read, 'I tried to find my Nuit Etoile...'.

I haven't MrsG, but having just read that AG is to be rebranded this year Shock and the "classics" pared down to a handful while they launch new groovy stuff in bottles with pompoms on, Hmm I think I should hoover up any remaining bottles of Eau du Sud and Hadrien while they are still what they are!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/03/2018 21:12

I don't belong on this thread (disclaimer because you'll work that out anyway) as a lot of perfumes make me sneeze. But despite never having thought about it I now NEED to know what perfume stormtroopers wear. I can only imagine a faint whiff of WD40 given how many joints there are on their armour.

I think I'm ok with the others, Alexis Colby wears Poison or Opium, Miffy wears CK One and Mrs Robinson wears Channel No. 5. Am I right?

Motoko · 18/03/2018 21:12

Ah, here you are! Just checking in.

positivepineapple · 18/03/2018 21:12

Hi 👋🏼

I would really like to know how a stormtrooper smells?

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/03/2018 21:25

sotd was PP version of midnight poison and lovely it was. Looking for something else to put on now but i can't decide what i want!

MrsGruber · 18/03/2018 22:39

Black and PP - I wondered too. Apparently it's like this:

Top Notes
Grapefruit, Violet, Pepper
Heart Notes
Geranium, Lavender, Apple
Base notes
Cedarwood, Patchouli, Musk

This smells pleasant in a dark, generic kind of way. It's not nearly threatening enough - I imagine they'd smell more like something Beaufort would make - maybe Vie et Amis?

Black - With you on Alexis. Miffy dates back to 1955 (who knew?) - I'd put her in something simple, soft and powdery. And Mrs Robinson I imagine in something with a bit more edge, probably animalic or with leather given all that leopard skin...?

Well there are rather a lots of stormtrooper perfumes, I never realised. The Original Stromtrooper with an interesting write up The Original Stormtrooper fragrance features galactic top notes of lemon, grapefruit, and bay essence, explosive middle notes of nutmeg, cardamom, and pimento, and star killer base notes of vetiver, cedarwood, and amber. Smell great while making the Empire proud or just getting rid of the dreaded trash compactor stench.

And this for the worst designed page ever. If you highlight, the text magically appears.

Thanks for being organised and doing the new thread MrsG

Dowser · 18/03/2018 23:41

These are the perfumes I have at home...I’ll try to R.E.M. Ed what I have
Hermes 24 fauberg
Caleche
Verte orange
Ck one...need a new bottle
CK
Angel schlesser Flor de naranjo
A gaudier one...but can’t remeb which one
Youth dew..Estée Lauder...gone back to that one.i
I have a Hugo boss one
A green tea one...might be Elizabeth Arden
Blue grass...very old...and might not smell as good as it should
And a treasured bottle of origins spring fever

That’s pretty much it I think ( off the top of my head)

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/03/2018 06:57

You have a couple of my favourites on there dowser - Youth Dew (the perfume that started me off down this rabbit hole!) and 24 Faubourg, which is my need-to-feel-like-a-proper-grown-up-today perfume. Both gorgeous.

I also really love Origins Ginger Essence as a pick-me-up, but I've never tried Spring Fever, is it discontinued?

I reckon The Empire probably commissioned Comme des Garcons to make a bespoke stormtrooper fragrance. Perhaps called Shiny Helmet actually that's probably more an Antoine Lie special

mrsreynolds · 19/03/2018 07:16

Mmmm
Youth dew
Lovely

Sotd...hmmm. it's cold out there ❄ so I think PP opium

auberginesrus · 19/03/2018 07:39

Still have faint remnants of yesterday's L'air de Rien on my wrists this morning - that stuff has some longevity! I think I'll be in MG Lemon today and pretend there isn't still snow on the ground.

Have good Monday's all

auberginesrus · 19/03/2018 07:40

PS - I imagine a Stormtrooper to smell of something 1980s - Kouros perhaps?

fishonabicycle · 19/03/2018 07:48

Sote is PP blackberry and bay (good dupe I think).

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 19/03/2018 08:20

How did I not know about the Star Wars perfumes?! Tempted very much by a 4 x 10ml coffret set for £7.99, for some reason it won't let me attach a photo but it's on Amazon. DCs would love it. This thread is such an education! Crying at "shiny helmet" Grin

I also want the Miffy perfume just to put the bottle on display

Welcome dowser I'm going to take a guess and ask if you like incense too? I'm currently lusting over some French £30 a box incense Shock

I can't spend any more perfume budget as my finger slipped on an eBay negligee with lace down to the navel Alexis Colby...I'm totally taking that as a compliment! Much preferred her to boring goody goody insipid Krystle. Definitely an old school heavy knock your socks off perfume 80s style, I'm going to go with Poison too. A big huge cloud of it. I suddenly feel the need to apply some and accessorise with a long cigarette holder and a hat with a veil over my face...

In RL I really want to wear Neroli Portofino but there is snow on the ground and it feels wrong.

MrsGruber · 19/03/2018 08:51

You know, I think Mark Buxton might do shiny better? SotD is his Cologne Noir for VC&A. But talking of Antoine Lie, have you spotted he is the nose responsible for Barbara Herman's line, Eris Perfumes? Anyone tried?

He is also responsible for lots of other interesting stuff like Courreges Hyperbole, CdG Wonderwood and Girl. Hadn't spotted before but he also did Paul Smith London Men (which I have 'borrowed') as well as other mainstream things like Armani Code and Versace's Crystal Noir.

OP posts:
UnnecessaryFennel · 19/03/2018 09:16

Not tried, but I really like the sound of Night Flower from the Eris range. No international shipping though, which is a shame as the sample set looks decent value (unlike the FBs...Hmm)

Do find the constant 'oooh, sex! oooh, body fluids! ooh, we're all just animals aren't we!' side of AL a bit tiresome though (she says, having just made a very childish willy joke first thing on a Monday morning...) Plus, 'a perfume for all genders' - oh, snore.
