You probably know the drill by now - come and join us and to talk about perfume. We're friendly and smell lovely.

Oh cystitis is awful aubergine Sad.
I used to get it a lot. Unfortunately for me the water-cranberry juice-warm bath trope didn’t work. Only antibiotics helped. Was a hard old time trying to get antibiotics prescriptions in the current/recent climate! Wish you better Flowers.

Vanderbilt is beautiful!

I'm in an obsession vibe atm all thanks to floofy 😁

Santal royal was a disappointment today.

I agree re vanilla scents...I've always loved them. Vanilla fields - a cheapo from the chemist at about £3.99.
Then Yves rocher vanilla - lovely.
Body shop vanilla...did anyone wear that?
And of course my beloved Dior addict 😁

pestilentialboundary · 21/03/2018 18:00

Vanilla with a heritage Caron Royal Bain and [[http://perfumereviewguide.com/best-vanilla-perfumes-a-top-10-list/#
a list of top 10 vanillas including Shalimar]]

I agree fancy. I try to think about perfume in the same way I think about music - that even though I have favourite genres/artists that I fundamentally prefer to others, there's also huge joy to be found in moving outside one's comfort zone and discovering stuff that would not usually fit my own personal Venn Diagram of Good Things.

The most interesting thing about my perfume 'journey' is that I actually don't much like many of the scents I thought I did...and I love things I thought weren't 'me'. So 12 months ago I thought I liked light, fresh, citrussy scents...actually what I really love are heavy, smoky, incensey orientals, powdery, 'old lady' chypres, many gourmands, and downright weird notes Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 18:14

What did you think of By The Fireside mrsr? I really want to try Lipstick On, I love the name apart from anything else.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 21/03/2018 18:15

I don't buy into people saying that certain scents are superior to others. I like what I like and what I think smells good to me and on me. If other people don't like them, that's fine, I wouldn't expect everyone else to be identical to me in terms of taste. gourmands are just as valid as chypres, they are just different and that's okay!

Calmwhoknows · 21/03/2018 18:18

Oh, we mustn’t forget Eau des Missions by Le Couvent des Minimes. This is a beautiful smoky vanilla. It’s a cologne but so cheap (Ebay or Amazon), you can spray liberally!

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 18:27

I really liked it fennel
Just lovely.
Lipstick on was very synthetic smelling to my nose...almost like the plastic case lipstick comes in iyswim?

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 18:29

SOTE (finally) is Lonestar Memories, partly because it's a work of genius and partly because it has sinus-clearing properties Grin

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 18:30

According to fragrantica by the fireplace;

MAIN ACCORDS

woody

vanilla

powdery

balsamic

aromatic

musky

No wonder I like it!! 😁

ISpentTheDayInBed · 21/03/2018 18:30

I read about Mary Greenwell perfumes on another thread and thought they sounded so lovely that was going to buy the lemon blind (I love citrus). They had it in stock at my local Fragrance Shop, so went in to have a spray. Glad I did, it smelt dreadful on me, like an old lady perfume.

It's probably a bit too mainstream for all of you, but any opinons on Chanel Gabrielle? I've tried it a few times and the the intial scent is not very nice but it dries to the most gorgeous scent on me. Not going to spend that amount though as expect it to be lovely from first spray.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 18:33

I adore By The Fireplace, and I think it's a favourite of Judy's as well. As you say, just lovely, Cozy, warming, sweet-but-not-sickly, smoky loveliness. Definitely FB territory.

I quite like that 'makeup' smell. At least, I like it in actual makeup - Guerlain (obvs) and Bourjois are really good for a proper perfumed lipstick. It might be too much in a perfume all day though.

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 18:37

Is it horrifically expensive??

😣🤣

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 18:40

£100 for a FB?

Too rich for me :(

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 18:41

Oh god yeah, me too. A girl can dream though Grin

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 18:41

I always think lipstick scent should be powdery...lipstick on smelt synthetic to me. In fact it reminded me of play doh!

MrsGruber · 21/03/2018 19:10

Think it is possible to separate pleasure and artistic merit in most cultural forms? And to enjoy both? Even though they don't always coincide?

OP posts:
mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 19:30

definately

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 19:30

Yes to Fennel re: music tastes and MrsG on the appreciating the art and having your own tastes.

mrsr - loved Vanilla Body Shop and still have an old bottle (late 90s?) I use to layer with other fragrances. I do the same with Eau des Missions, calm.

MrsGruber · 21/03/2018 19:31

Any thoughts on MG Cherry?

ISpent - pleasant, easy to wear scent. Smells like lots of other things ?

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 19:33

I haven’t got round to sniffing Gabrielle, ISpent, but I don’t love Chanel offerings so haven’t had the drive to do it. It sounds quite nice to me, though. I think I’d probably buck the critical trend and love it [grin{

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 21/03/2018 19:35

ISpentTheDay Atellier Cologne do some good citruses so might be worth checking out - although longevity isn't great.

MrsR Agree on Santal Royal. I did have a tiny PP Mitsouko but after a stint in the glove compartment it went a bit wrong. I think it was ok, but preferred the real one.

I guess there are different types of vanilla but I love Shalimar so can't judge Envy

SotD was Oriane.

auberginesrus · 21/03/2018 20:02

Inspired by all the vanilla talk on here SITE is Creamy Vanilla Crumble. Not especially keen which surprises me Sad

auberginesrus · 21/03/2018 20:03

Oh I so wish there was an edit function on here!
SOTE...

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 20:05

Sote is sexiest scent
