Sorry to hear that, mrsg.

Waves to new perfumistas - hello!

SOTD was Wrappings. I know this is supposed to be for Christmas but I find it green and spring-y, and today it was not raining, so whatever.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 07:13

Sorry to hear about work, MrsG Flowers Gin Cake

Violet you have persuaded me to go for Dirty Honey (excellent enabling!) I wore TF Tobacco Vanille last night as was feeling sorry for myself and wanted something comforting. This blasted cold is definitely affecting my sense of smell - not that I can't smell things but that they smell different. TV was, for the first time, a huge blast of honey and now I finally see what LT was talking about in the Perfume Bible.

I think I need to admit to myself that I actually have quite a soft spot for warm, sweet, vanilla/honey/caramel scents. I have fought against this tendency for quite some time...

Another work-at-home day due to student occupation of our building. It's like Paris 1968 all over again Grin

Puppylucky · 21/03/2018 07:30

Ooh did someone say honey? ! I have posted this before but the PP dupe for JPG Scandal is the most delicious warm sexy and comforting honey scent - can highly reccomend

positivepineapple · 21/03/2018 08:58

Sorry to hear MrsG I hope it all works out ok for you?

What is everyone wearing on international fragrance day?

I am in Orianne, it's a lovely sunny morning here and even though I just fell out of the car into a puddle 🙈 it's making me smile.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 09:31

On International Fragrance Day I will be looking in horror at my perfume expenditure spreadsheet for this month Shock

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 09:54

Sorry to hear you didn't get good work news, MrsG Flowers.

When is International Fragrance Day?!

I'm having one of my frivolous and childish days today and rocking Aquolina Gold Sugar. When I reach for this one its my subconscious telling me life is getting me down a bit and I need to stop being so serious and have some fun. I've got a stinking cold, though, so cant really smell much apart from a general whiff of sugary coconut...

I'm going to a funeral tomorrow and trying to decide whether I should wear perfume and if so, what? I'll go in light handed, obviously, but I think a squirt or two of something serious but uplifting would be nice. Trying to think of something that would fit the bill.

teta · 21/03/2018 10:02

Acca Kappa Calycanthus is my Sotd .Harbinger of spring - Winter flowering jasmine for a cold but sunny day.
Its still too cold for Carillon Pour Ange.
MrsG sorry for the bad news.

VioletWillow · 21/03/2018 10:52

UnnecessaryFennel you are so welcome! It really is nice, I will get another bottle when I finish the one I have 😀
I have a complicated relationship with vanilla and sweet scents. My brain says I shouldn't like them, nobody will take you seriously etc - but you know I just love them. Vanilla makes me happy. And I have found that when I wear really sweet vanilla fragrance, I feel less hungry and really don't crave sweet food! So win-win... on the other hand the bairns don't leave me alone when I wear vanilla, I read somewhere that breastmilk tastes strongly of vanilla and that's why we find it comforting?
Anyway SOTD is Sweet Vanilla by Montale. I genuinely smell like I fell in a cupcake mix, it is ridiculously sweet. By this afternoon I think I will feel the sugar overload and scrub it but for now it's grand. I only wear this one at home, it's the perfect feel good sniff.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 11:03

teta - agree that Carillon definitely needs a bit of warmth to bloom. It did something rather odd on my skin last year and I couldn't love it but I'm determined to try it again this year. It's one I very much need to be in the mood for though.

violet I think 'complicated relationship' is very accurate! I've ordered it, plus testers of Eau My Soul and Paradox.

And that is it for perfume spending for a good while. Don't laugh, I know I've said this before but this time I mean it. My spreadsheet was a bit of a wake-up call this morning. I already have more than I know what to do with. Enough is enough, until my birthday Hmm

VioletWillow · 21/03/2018 12:03

Unnecessary Fennel - is it your birthday soon?
I know what you mean, it can be so easy to get caught up with collecting brands and samples, then you have more than you know what to do with. I have one or two vanilla samples that I don't love; if you like I can post them to you? But if you have too many already, not a problem. Seems better to pass them on than let them go to waste.

positivepineapple · 21/03/2018 13:30

*"Pineapple's deal of the day"
*
The fragrance shop have 15% off (including clearance) with code Happy15.

I've just ordered a Mary Greenwell Plum and the Fire.

I also took a chance on Arrogant Cat - awful name, but has good reviews on Fragrantica.

positivepineapple · 21/03/2018 13:32

They also had DK Cashmere in the clearance, I'm sure that's a fave of a couple of people here.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 14:19

Oh, pineapple, you nearly gave me a heart attack about the DK Cashmere - luckily it's the Liquid Cashmere not the stuff I want that goes for hundreds of quid on eBay. Phew!

Not today, Satan, not today Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 14:20

violet that's very sweet of you, am always up for swaps so can send you my list of availables if there's anything you'd fancy in return?

mrsreynolds · 21/03/2018 14:55

Unexpected trip to town today!

Guerlain...managed to try santal...nope. not for me. Mitsouko is still the only guerlain for me :)

Tried mmm by the fireside. Lovely. Lipstick on is exactly like lipstick and sadly for me therefore too synthetic smelling.

Still haven't managed to try coromandel...nowhere near me stocks it :(

I tried a couple of creed scents too...love in white is VERY white floral. Not for me. Michelle Obama wears it apparently.

I think my next fb will be mitsouko...anyone know what the PP dupe is like?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 21/03/2018 15:22

SOTD: Miss Dior. Got it as a sample a few weeks ago and I really like it. I used to be a bit scared of it as I'm very sensitive to perfumes. But it's really good and I have no issues with it.

I'm on the hunt for a discontinued perfume: La Prairie - Silver Rain.
It was apparently discontinued last year, and unfortunately I have only just found out. It is my mum's absolute favourite, and she is almost out of it.
I have googled and called stores, but I have not had much luck. Notino.co.uk has it, but I don't know the site, reviews are mixed and their address is in Czech republic, so I am a bit worried about the authenticity of the products.
Would you happen to know this site, or any other reputable seller that has this perfume, or alternatively a dupe for it?

ISpentTheDayInBed · 21/03/2018 15:34

I fancy something new. At the moment I have Jo Malone Grapefruit, Neroli and Basil, Lime Basil and Mandarin, Wood Sage and Sea Salt, and Green Almond and Redcurrant. I know Jo Malone not that popular on here, but it suits me and I like it.

Also current wearing Armani Si and Code, Guerlain Pamplelume, and have just bought Alien Sublime. All of these smell great on me.

I used to love Sisley Eau du Soir and Soir du Lune, but can no longer wear these as too heavy and make me feel sick. Back in the day I used to like the older Givenchy such as III.

I guess I like citrus smells best! Recommendations for something new would be welcome

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 21/03/2018 15:43

Sorry not a proper post but quick thank you to pineapple as I just snagged some Mary G damn you really as I am one day into my perfume buying ban so that went well Blush

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/03/2018 16:13

lol floofy, you're as disciplined as I am!

riskit Notino is fine I think - I've ordered samples from there before and had no issues and I think several other posters have used it.

I still have no SOTD! And on National Fragrance Day as well Shock

Calmwhoknows · 21/03/2018 16:16

Fennel and Violet, thinking about sweet, vanilla perfumes, someone on the previous thread (sorry, can’t find post) mentioned Parfum Hashtag #ILoveYou. This is a favourite of mine, originally recommended by someone on an early thread. It is a sweet honey/vanilla/tonka and definitely smells like a patisserie! It’s very cheap, £5 or so, from The Fragrance Shop. Also Chanel’s Feve Delicieuse is worth sampling. This has chocolate topnotes and is a boozy/caramel vanilla. Lovely, although expensive! 4160Tuesdays’ Babylon Sunset is a beautiful honeyed sandalwood/vanilla. If either of you want a sample of the Babylon Sunset and/or #ILoveYou, pm me. (I only have a small decant myself of the Feve.)

I checked my Poundland and there is no Pharrell Williams Girl to be found. I will keep looking.

For the last couple of days I have been wearing L’Artisan Mure et Musc. This is a beautiful scented blackberry (ie ripe blackberry rather than a tart fruit) with musk, fairly linear but lasts all day with low sillage. I am just recovering from a cold so I’m being gentle with my nose!

MrsG, sorry to hear your news. Hopefully the redeployment will work in your favour. 🤞

positivepineapple · 21/03/2018 16:45

Oops! Apologies for the heart attack Fennel.

And the spending Floofy 🙈

At least we can all be penniless and fragrant together?

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 17:22

Embrace your love of sweet and vanilla fragrances, my friends! Grin.

I’ve got crazily mixed tastes. I love darker oriental florals, very French and spring-like florals, chypres (especially fruity chypres) and gourmands.

I find an awful lot of snobbery exists in the perfume world over vanilla or sweet fragrances and for me, it’s because they don’t have a history. They are seen as flighty millennial fodder - and to be honest, many are! - but there are so many good sweeties out there. So many!

And to be fair, sometimes some of us DO want to smell like a sweet shop or bakery Grin. I have days when I crave a serious old school chypre...and days when I wear frivolous sweet scents (today was such a day).

I greatly admire the Luca Turins of this world. And I love to learn about fragrance and develop my ‘nose’. But I refuse to be TOLD what smells good to my nose!

On that note, I’ve just doused myself in my cheap eBay 2001 Vanderbilt for women. Lovely, wearable, peachy vanilla in the same vein as the 90s-tastic Burberry Women. And I’m not ashamed! Grin

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 17:25

p.S Mary Greenwell bargains to be had on the fragrance shop website currently. A fiver for the 7.5ml purse spray, under 20 quid for a big bottle. I can’t even stretch to that currently, but ringing the alarm for youse lot!

auberginesrus · 21/03/2018 17:30

Happy national fragrance day all.

SOTD was L'eau Magnetic from Miller Harris discovery set. Really liked it but it faded very quickly to a skin scent. Still suffering with the bloody cystitis (not literally thankfully) so need something to cheer me up now.
