Well quite, it was a deliberate exercise to demonstrate how self restraint is done.

I may have gone to Superdrug earlier to qualify for the opening day offer

I am slightly excited that ds will be 6 months old in a week. This means that not only will I no longer have a baby but a big boy I can get points on his formula now in boots. Woop. What to spend those on....

Partypopper123 · 16/03/2018 19:46

I didn't know this was a thread! Just used a Alberto balsam shampoo up and got the dregs of a shower gel to go. I can't close my bathroom cabinet- I used to work next to a Superdrug until early this year and bought EVERYTHING on offer 😩, so I've got loads to use up.

LanguidLobster · 16/03/2018 20:01

Shall we set some goals aside from using up before repurchasing?

I reckon I can get through the year not needing to buy more soap, cleansers, facial oils, moisturisers, mascara or lipstick.

I'll need to buy one foundation (only use it now and then), one shampoo, eyeliner and face mask. Deodorants who knows?

One nail polish. Tons of cotton wool.

ememem84 · 16/03/2018 21:55

Oooh. I reckon I can go until at least August without buying body lotion/moisturiser.

And probably until 2020 before I need to buy an eyeliner or eyeshadow pallet.

I think I need an intervention Confused
It was all going so well until both Cult Beauty and Space NK had their big free sample offers within about a week of each other. I'd been saving products in my wish lists for when these offers came round.

Now I don't need to buy anything except for shower gel for months. By my reckoning it will be Autumn before I run out of shampoo and conditioner.

Last year I had a makeup overhaul so I shouldn't need to buy anymore at all this year.

FWIW I had a sample I know, I know of Bum Bum cream last year. It smelled nice in the pot, of bananas but it didn't smell so great on my skin. I wouldn't buy it, it reminded me of Body Shop moisturiser circa 1987.

One of the samples this time was Rodial Vitamin C mask and I did really like that but I won't be buying it until I've used up all the other things I've got.

There. I've written this down now so I have to stick by it.

Hello all checking into new thread for some motivation

Experiment627 · 17/03/2018 07:03

Welcome to even more newbies!!

We often do lists so that we have a targeted approach to using stuff up... I am currently still working on my 14 by Valentines list and my 12 by Easter list.
Others catalouge/count or that they use up - the number gets very impressive in a few months.
Anyhoo whatever works for you!

I need a clothes version of this thread.....

ememem84 · 17/03/2018 09:44

CLArins body scrub travel size finished. Yippee. On to soap and glory scrub next. I rarely use these so why do I have so many....

On the plus side I will have super polished skin. Scrubbing a couple of times a week and moisturising daily. Yippee.

Am also slathering my feet in s&g heel genius to get them flip flop ready.

Experiment627 · 17/03/2018 13:14

I used a tub of Lavender bath salts today. I think they were from Tiger.

Hi all!
I drifted in and out of the old thread. I'm still going!
I decided before Christmas that I wasn't going to buy anything in 2018 until I've used up what's in the cupboards. So far, nearly three months in, I have bought absolutely nothing for the bathroom/my dressing table! I will need some more dry shampoo probably next month, but that's the only thing I can see myself needing to buy at least for the first half of 2018, if not for the first 3/4 of the year, apart from maybe lip balm. I seem to be going through that at a rate of knots at the moment.

PurpleNailVarnish · 17/03/2018 16:14

thenewaveragebear I could do with a clothes thread like this too hangs head in shame. Although there are a few things I need, I have everything I need for the next few winters but for summer I need a few key pieces to bring me up to date.

Experiment do you write the lists of things to use up on here? Or just write them for yourself?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2018 16:58

Purple I started one....

Anyone fancy a 'wear it or share it' clothing thread? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/3196651-anyone-fancy-a-wear-it-or-share-it-clothing-thread

I am a beauty junkie and have realized that because I am always buying new products, I rarely give anyone product the time to make a difference and for me to use them up and decide if I actually like the product or not.

I hate having a lot of stuff, which doesn't make sense because my bathroom cupboards and dressing table are full of beauty products and when I look at everything I own my heart starts to race a little at the complete waste. I travel a lot and I am constantly picking up items from around the world--therefore I have a lot of beauty products from Asia and the US and from European chemists. It's all so overwhelming!

I am going to start a year of travel at the end of the summer so want to use up as much as possible before then so that I am only taking the things that I love and can't live without. I have also decided that if I realise that I don't get on with a product I can give it away to a friend or throw it out...I don't need to hold on to things that I don't love.

So far this month I have used up:
Indie Lee Rosehip cleanser: I liked it but probably won't buy again, it didn't do anything amazing to my skin (although it didn't cause breakouts either) and I could probably get a cleanser that is similar for less money.

Indie Lee body oil: Loved this. Probably won't buy again because it is expensive and I realised I could buy some jojoba oil and make my own for less.

Farmacy Honey Drop lightweight moisturizer: really liked this. It was a perfect consistency and didn't leave my face feeling too oily but also provided a good level of moisture in the winter (and light enough to be used in the summer too). Would consider buying again once I use up all my other face moisturizers.

Indie Lee Lotion COQ-10: I liked this when I used it but haven't noticed a difference or change in my skin since using it up which probably means it is pointless?

Planted in Beauty Eye Firming Complex: Very expensive and didn't notice a difference at all. Won't buy again.

Kensington Apothecary Rose Water Exfoliating tonic: I did like this. The price point was fine. I love a rose water (hence name) and would use this again or try another brand of rose water.

Juice Beauty lip cream in Merlot: I liked the colour but the consistency is horrible. It is very grainy. I threw it out without using it up.

Goals for the next couple of months are to really pamper myself with the products I have and use them as much as possible (lotion and body oil twice a day, paint nails once per week, use hair oil, etc.)

Hi everyone, just signing in so I don't lose the thread, I love reading 😊

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/03/2018 17:09

I dyed my hair yesterday and dug out a couple of tubes of Waitrose Pure Shampoo/Conditioner ....sulphate free Grin. I bought it last year, tried it, meh , put it away .until now.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 18/03/2018 20:57

Another empty: Oliology coconut conditioner. It was ok but not amazing. Coming to the end of their curl cream and leave-in spray, these are quite good.

Strawberryfield12 · 18/03/2018 21:16

Couple of empties from my Easter list:

  • balanceme Wonder eye cream, which I was sent by Hush in one of my orders. Still waiting for the “wonder”to happen. Didn’t feel like it was doing anything at all;
-decleor 1000 grains body exfoliator. Pleasant, but it didn’t exfoliate as good as the hammam glove I brought over from Morocco. And it lasts for years before holes appear.

Have to admit I don’t like any grainy exfoliators whatsoever. Not a fan of little grains sticking to skin no matter how much I try to clear them off. Have on Easter list a face exfoliator and there are always few grains stuck in the hairline.

rosewater09 · 19/03/2018 07:36

Three more empties today:

*Etude house snail face mask that I picked up in Asia (not my favourite sheet mask, to be honest, the snail makes me a little uneasy)
*Kensington Apothecary Environmental Defense Tonic brought back from America. I felt nice using it but don't think it did much for my face.
*bath bomb from Christmas

I spent this weekend being as decadent as possible with all of my beauty products. Been using lotion multiple times per day, using my Rosewater before bed so I smell of fresh roses as I get into bed. It is making me feel very fancy and I am really loving actually using my products! I also found a little trick with a lip balm I bought in America. It's an organic shea butter lip balm that smells great but I hate how it feels on my lips (much prefer to use homeoplasmine as a bedtime lip balm), so I started applying it to my cuticles and it has become a perfect cuticle cream to use before bed. It's made me realise that I should think about multiple uses for my other products that are just 'ok' too.

ememem84 · 19/03/2018 08:21

rose I do this. Icky smelling body lotions go on my feet. Too thick face creams go on my body etc. I hate wasting

Queenio24 · 19/03/2018 08:30

2 out of my 4 Blushopen foundations finished over the weekend!

Queenio24 · 19/03/2018 08:45

Am I supposed to say the brands? Oops, one was a number 7 perfect wear (I think) foundation - excellent will buy again, one was a maybelline dream matte foundation, good staying power but not keen on the colour.
