Basil - Eau de Rochas or L'Eau L'Artisan?

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 08:17

MrsS can you talk to me about Feu Follet - it is you that's a fan isn't it?

Hi kuriousoranj (great name!) and toffee, welcome to the most enabling thread on MN Wink. I don't know any good basil scents but would agree that Library of Fragrance is probably your best bet.

SOTD is Rhubarb and Custard 1:29. The snow is falling out here on the South London/Surrey borders. The meeting I was going to go into the office for was cancelled late last night so I'm sitting at the dining room table watching the flakes fall Smile. It looks as if it's sticking. Unfortunately my old and poorly-insulated house is freezing, so I'm here in 3 pairs of socks, two sweaters and two scarves (and a pair of jeans for decency's sake).

Difficult work day ahead with some potentially big choices to make...SotD Coromandel.

MrsGruber · 26/02/2018 08:33

EK it's a masterpiece. Unusual but very wearable green leather. (The big green note is coriander and it's a lightly animalic leather). Have you smelt vintage Coriandre - the coriander note is similar?

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 08:37

I haven't MrsG, but it definitely sounds like something I might like.

Payday is tomorrow, TKMaxx have the Freidmondin set, aaaaargh I need to STOP BUYING Grin

I mean, it's a classic, right?

(Hope your day goes well!)

OP posts:
explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 08:40

Or rather, it will be a classic. i didn't realise it's only a few years old.

No snow in Sunny wales yet. I'm dreading it, I hate driving in the snow so getting to work shall be fun - more importantly - how is the postman going to get my 4160 goodies to me!

teta · 26/02/2018 10:09

We’ve had a few flakes here in Shropshire.Sotd is Wrappings conjuring up pine forests, snow and clear mountain air. Appropriate as we live right on a hill and will be snowed in unless we park at the bottom.
For those of us who love Wrappings it’s reduced on the Clinique web site at the moment. Interestingly the notes listed are quite different to the Fragrantica notes. With the first one being Basil.
Basil perfumes I use :
Jo Malone Neroli & Basil
Miller Harris Fleur du matin
Sisley Eau de Campagne
L artisan parfumeur l eau d artisan
‘. ‘. ‘. ‘. Rose privee
Friedemodine Vertine .

SoFancy · 26/02/2018 10:17

Morning fragrant ones. Welcome new folk Grin

Only a few measly flakes of snow so far in north London, but bitterly cold. I've cracked out my over the knee boots and thermal tights. Hoping I don't look like a pirate.

I enjoyed my tuberose and juicy fruits extravaganza so much last night, that I'm back in Diamonds and Emeralds this morning. Its sitting with the cold weather beautifully. Sour-sweet, creamy, juicy, warming. Yum.

Motoko · 26/02/2018 12:12

Sorry for delay in replying mrsr, I've stopped getting notifications again and only just seen this. I think it was Twinkle, that name rings a bell now you mention it. Thanks!

Motoko · 26/02/2018 12:27

misiabella thanks! Yes, mrsr reminded me when she said it might be Twinkle.

Nice and sunny here in my part of Wales (south) too Pineapple. No snow here yet.

SOTD is the Big Sniff's Lalique. It's quite nice so far. Not one I'd buy a FB of though, but pleasant enough to use up all the sample.

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 26/02/2018 12:29

Hello fragrant friends (and welcome fragrant newbies! Hide your credit cards now, I suggest into tub of water and into the freezer. Save yourselves Grin)

Love the new thread title! Although I am in the "unwashed tribe" rather than the face masked tribe atm. Posting in an attempt to get my perfume mojo back. I did wear The Sniff yesterday but was in such a foul mood I ended up snarling it was too sweet and washing it off Blush Shall re try later!

Half hearted attempt at snow here! I shall rustle up the energy for a bath (and sheet face mask Wink) and go for Shalimar.

Bloody Paloma Picasso is in the Drawer of Doom as it brought me no luck whatsoever (lost my court case) and I'm going to turn into a bitter angry old woman if I'm not careful Blush I am going to treat myself to a new Perfume Parlour perfume in an attempt to rectify this. Suggestions welcome!

Sorry to be selfish and not actually talk about anyone else, or even perfume Hmm

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 12:56

Really sorry to hear about your case floofy Flowers. It sounds like a treat is definitely in order.

I've bought the Friedemodin. And Wrappings. In my defence I have been after Wrappings for a while now.

But I think I need an intervention. I can't possibly sniff ALL THE THINGS.

Blush

MrsGruber · 26/02/2018 13:56

[Flowers] for Floof. Sorry St.Paloma failed to come through for you on this occasion.

CountFosco · 26/02/2018 15:48

SotD Civet (Zoologist). I smell like a mix of cinnamon toast and warm cat. Sillage and longevity great.

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 16:38

Hope you're ok too mrsr

positivepineapple · 26/02/2018 17:37

Motoko I'm south too - Cardiff actually. It will probably turn to rain before it gets to us - as always!

Floofy Sorry to hear that, treats are essentialThanks

4160 emailed me today about my order. I had overpaid and they have refunded me the difference. I did get a little confused on the website, it's not much but what lovely customer service already Smile

auberginesrus · 26/02/2018 17:46

Bitterly cold here (NW) and a few flakes of snow in the air. DS2 has been on an inset day so we have been tramping around a nature reserve with his friend. It was nice when the sun was out, less so when the wind was blowing!

SOTD - tried Dark Heart of Old Havana again and decided I was definitely not keen. I like the tobacco smell, but the ripe fruit is just too much. Tried washing off and sprayed Next Cashmere over the top, which was quite nice but it wore off and I could smell Havana again! Ah well at least I was outdoors.

DS1 parents evening imminently - I want to smell like a Mum not to be messed with. May wear my new 100 bon Iris & Cedar.

BluebellGal · 26/02/2018 17:51

Thank you mrsgruber your fabulous package of samples arrived at the weekend. Can’t wait to try them when I get home this evening Grin

So sorry about the case Floofy Flowers that really sucks. Treats definitely deserved.

I’ve been quiet as had a crap weekend with a projectile vomiting toddler. Just when I thought it had stopped and gave the poor thirsty/ hungry DC some toast/ water ... it started up again. Poor thing. It’s stopped now thank goodness and luckily family have taken her to theirs so I could go to work. Feel like a crap mum but I’m so appreciative as work is very busy and having a day off would make things more difficult for me, but missing her terribly. Ah the joys of being a FT working mum!

BluebellGal · 26/02/2018 17:53

Oh and SOTD was L’Artisan Parfumeur (this is a Perfume thread after all) Bucoliques de Provence which is really gorgeous Iris and lavender- reminded me of Avery E- also a skin scent half way through the day and pretty much gone now

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 18:04

Oh crikey bluebell, hope dd feels much better soon. It's not easy when you feel you have to head into work when they're poorly - I used to feel terribly guilty. Bucoliques de Provence sounds lovely!

aubergines - Dark Heart isn't the easiest and I know what you mean about the overripe fruit note . I love it though. Hope your other 4160s are more successful!

I need an MN perfumista review of Donna Karan Black Cashmere - anyone tried it?

OP posts:
Judydreamsofhorses · 26/02/2018 18:59

Sorry to hear that, floofy.

SOTD here was L’Air de Rien. Thankfully no snow to speak of. Yet.

explodingkittens · 26/02/2018 19:08

new 4160s crowdfunding project on the cards?

Dinner is egg and chips Smile
