Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

It is! Strawberries and salt. I can't even find anything remotely similar

JanetStWalker · 22/02/2018 23:47

Think she only does 100ml bottles which is way too much for her quirky juice. I'd be more tempted to buy if she offered 15ml or even 30ml.

Hope you're reading this, Hilde! Grin

Ollivander84 · 22/02/2018 23:48

100% I would buy a 30ml, it's gorgeous
Part of why I love 4160 Tuesdays is the non commitment 9ml bottles

mrsreynolds · 23/02/2018 07:15

Morning!
Hmmm
Sotd...i think EL knowing today

mrsreynolds · 23/02/2018 07:25

Those 4610 9mls are great or not so great depending on bank balance!

explodingkittens · 23/02/2018 07:26

Morning all!

Still in bed, not sure what SOTD will be. Am very happy as our plans for tonight have been cancelled, so I don't have to drag myself around London this evening. I love it when that happens Blush

Have been browsing ebay for miniature bottles. I wish more houses would start producing smaller bottles as standard, not just as gift sets/promo. Does it just not make financial sense, or is it more about an illusion of exclusivity?

SoFancy · 23/02/2018 07:32

Morning early birds! I’m going old school today in YSL Paris. I’m pretend it’s Spring Grin.

SoFancy · 23/02/2018 07:32

I can pretend

Obviously need more coffee!

mrsreynolds · 23/02/2018 07:53

It's -3 here with frost on the ground ❄
I admire your pretending fancy 😊

Off to Ikea for breakfast today 🍳🥓☕

explodingkittens · 23/02/2018 08:08

Oooh I love an IKEA breakfast mrsr - enjoy!

explodingkittens · 23/02/2018 09:07

SOTD Petit Matin by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. I wanted something bright and springlike and this certainly has some sprightly citrus top notes.

Unfortunately, it quickly starts to smell like Lemon Pledge. I'll do some dusting and see if it improves Grin

mrsreynolds · 23/02/2018 09:22

Lemon pledge!! Ha!
I'm in knowing and it feels warm and lovely and slightly skanky

explodingkittens · 23/02/2018 10:21

Have done some hoovering (not dusting) and nipped out to the shops (crikey it's chilly today). Petit Matin has improved a bit - softened and rounded - but there is still an underlying hint of furniture polish. I don't think I can live with this all day, sorry Francis. Off to hunt out something more appealing.

How was your breakfast @mrsr? I fancy a bacon sandwich...

positivepineapple · 23/02/2018 10:41

SOTD Karl Lagerfeld - Kaleidoscope

I got a job lot of mixed samples from good old Ebay and am trying out a new one each day just to see if I can pick out the notes etc.

So far, I quite like it - it's not dissimilar to Avery E with the violet and Tonka, except Avery has more punch. I can't see this lasting beyond lunch time.

BluebellGal · 23/02/2018 11:26

SOTD Ormonde Jayne vanille d’Iris. Last of a treasured sample and can’t afford a new bottle

Jealous of Ikea breakfast and cleaning, I’m on a caffeine break which is badly needed as I accidentally emailed a client an email not meant for them. Oops, first time I’ve done that and luckily it didn’t say anything inappropriate.

MrsGruber · 23/02/2018 11:53

Have been wearing Amber Mambo and Lemon Sherbert side buy side this morning to try and work Amber Mambo out. Lemon Sherbert seems to me like Shalimar reimagined for the 21st Century, with the warm lemon, vanilla and musk. Very clever.

Whoever mentioned italian soap is dead right about Amber Mambo. It has a much cooler opening citrus whoosh (grapefruit and mandarin??), but without Lemon Sherbert's intial out-and-out fizz. It's a bit graver at this stage - briefly like Eau du Sud. The heart is a rich soapy-floral citrus and a lighter-style amber (more vanilla-ery balsams than labdanum) is starting to come through underneath. I don't get a lot of spice.

Sometimes I get a bit thrown by names - its like paint charts. I get distracted by the question of whether things smell like you expect, rather than by the question of whether they smell good or interesting!

MrsGruber · 23/02/2018 12:13

Well I've just smashed my 9mls of Amber Mambo on the kitchen floor and lost the lot

At least I had a good sniff beforehand Sad.

I need to sort out better storage...

MrsGruber · 23/02/2018 12:20

The floor seems to bring out the darker spicier qualities better than my skin. The kitchen hasn't smelt this good before....

Perhaps I don't apply enough (buying in small quanities means I usually ration myself to one small squirt only)?

MrsGruber · 23/02/2018 12:30

Bluebell - I've checked and sadly my OJ Vd'I sample ended up being used in the advent calendar project.

But this makes me think that maybe we should do an 'All Ports Alert' thing once we're on the new thread? If we each shared the 5 or so things we're missing/trying to track down we could keep an eye out for each other? Could be that we have things already sitting in our swaps piles or we might notice stuff whilst perousing eBay, TK Maxx etc which we could alert people to. Just an idea.....?

MotherofTerriers · 23/02/2018 12:44

Atelier silver iris today
Its pleasant, but not a strong scent

CountFosco · 23/02/2018 13:03

Its pleasant, but not a strong scent

Is that the one that was blackcurrenty? Quite liked it but I think Cheap wasn't so keen. My favourite was Mistral Patchouli but I also like Vetiver Fatal (vetiver is like catnip to me) and Polemo Paradis (the most gorgeous opening of honey and grapefruit). And Ambre Nue was lovely as well.

explodingkittens · 23/02/2018 13:13

Oh, I nearly wore that this morning motherofterriers. But didn't because yes, it's nice but not particularly interesting. Might come into its own in the warmer weather though I suppose.

MrsG Sad your poor Amber Mambo (but you now have a lovely-smelling kitchen floor so, there's that!)

Have got rid of the MFK and given the ELD'O Faun another run out. Getting a lot more rose in this today, enjoying it.

Have a good few samples in my Notino shopping bag, ready for payday. A couple of ELD'Os (including Rossy de Palma, who was it looking for that?), couple of Aedes de Venustas, couple of Diptyques...and the dreaded Womanity Wink

MotherofTerriers · 23/02/2018 13:17

I'm not getting blackcurrent
Just a faint pleasant floralyness

positivepineapple · 23/02/2018 13:33

Kittens I love womanity! I'm watching a bottle on Ebay at the moment - if I get it you're more than welcome to a sample.

mrsreynolds · 23/02/2018 13:53

Oh mrsg! I could cry for you! Argh
Well home from work and trying to do last minute jobs before dh leaves for the U.S.
