Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Fosco no... will have to e-mail them...

AdiosPeaceOfRoast · 29/01/2018 22:36

Hello, can I join you please? I’m really tempted by the AC sampler but I’ve also had the PC Prada Iris sampler calling me, so, hmm, not sure!

Scent of the day is Maison Martin Margiela Replica Filter: Glow (mouthful). It’s an oil that you’re supposed to layer under other perfumes but I just wore it alone today, needed a summery feel!

MrsGruber · 29/01/2018 23:39

Welcome Adios - that sounds interesting. (Not very Summery here tonight though).

Have just noticed the 10ml OML naturals have gone into the 4160s sale. Now half price. (Down to £15 plus postage).

PerfumeIsAMessage · 30/01/2018 06:15

Prada Iris and Iris Cedre dupes are available on Perfume Parlour for about £5 x 13 ml.

And are magnificent.

Just sayin'. Grin

So you could have AC set AND Prada (dupes)

Welcome to the enablers' thread!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 30/01/2018 06:18

MrsG- 31 is my second favourite esclusif after Coromandel. So sophisticated and grown up. 30 or 50 ml would definitely be a goer for me.

Bluebell- well done!,

mrsreynolds · 30/01/2018 07:32

They don't do prada amber though which I quite like 😔

Sotd sexiest scent I think

I'm addicted to the stuff 😁

teta · 30/01/2018 09:39

I’m on the 14th day of Pure Distance White. It’s just so right for this time of year - being warm, slightly spicy and cheery. I’ve ordered a small bottle from that overseas site JanetStWalker . In the hope I will receive some really interesting samples. Isn’t it weird how sometimes perfumes just grow on you .Antonia was my initial Pure Distance favourite. But it’s a superior Ralph Lauren Safari! Given that I already have two bottles of Safari - that’s more than enough.
I have a big bottle of Trefle Pur and a mini bottle of pure perfume Bois de Isles if anyone wants to swop decants. Neither of them are really my thing.

AdiosPeaceOfRoast · 30/01/2018 10:41

Ah thank you @PerfumeIsAMessage - I have a few from PP but haven’t tried those, always more temptation!

SoFancy · 30/01/2018 11:15

Morning all.

Feeling inspired by all your 'meeting in the Big Smoke' perfume choices. I deliver training to senior types every now and then and really need to identify an 'I'm cool, calm and extremely competent' perfume from my collection.

Don't think today's SOTD will really cut it (Burberry Women, the original one - peachy, sweet, slightly woodsy. I wore it yesterday, too, and a colleague said I smelled like I'd been in a spa...hmmmm...not an 'I'm the BOSS' kinda smell, Grin. Luckily no training today, then).

I'm feeling a bit washed out and weedy at the moment, to be honest, and in need of sweet and comforting perfumes. I may be tempted in to purchasing a couple of 9mls from 4160T tomorrow (payday!), as I miss Tart's Knicker Drawer and The Sexiest Scent since I drained my samples last year....

mrsreynolds · 30/01/2018 13:58

Fancy...doooooo iiiiittttt 😁
My mum asked me what perfume I was wearing earlier
She spluttered a bit when I told her the name 😁
I must not order more 4610 samples
Nope

JanetStWalker · 30/01/2018 15:44

teta, BdI EDT is a real favourite of mine and I've heard that the parfum is fabulous. Not sure I have anything you'd want to swap with but have a ready, willing and able PayPal account...

CountFosco · 30/01/2018 16:14

SotD Fleur de Louis. Bright green floral. Lasting ages as well. I like!

SoFancy · 30/01/2018 19:26

So, Perfumistas...Oud...thoughts?

Love or hate?

I'm new to this perfume ingredient and trying to work out if its a love or not. My only experience so far is of some of the cheaper Al-Haramain our fragrances, which I enjoy (a couple of loves) for mooching around the house/bedtime, but haven't worn outside the house yet .

Any insights or experiences?

SoFancy · 30/01/2018 19:27

oud fragrances

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 30/01/2018 19:32

Not sure about oud. Don't know if I could pick it out - an oud one from my advent calendar smelt of diy store but I don't know if that was the oud or something else!

A 30ml option for Les Exclusifs would be fab.

SotD was What I Did on My Holidays. Worked with the sun out and really did deliver sun cream and sticks of rock. Very agreeable!

BluebellGal · 30/01/2018 19:42

Thanks everyone for your best wishes- you are lovely people!

I’ve been working my way through the 4160s. Thank you cheap and calm I LOVE Dark Heart of Old Havana and snuggled up on the sofa in it to watch The Crown on Netflix. Rum, vanilla, chocolate, tabacco possibly... reminds me of the Atkinson’s Grand Pirate Reserve from the Big Sniff but better accomplished .... this should be renamed pirates in old Havana !

SOTD was 4160 Inevitable Crimes of Passion. My DH liked it but I found the opening really off putting and drydown lovely but ruined for me by one note. Something very earthy and funky to my nose. I checked the notes and it must be the cep mushroom? Saying that, my DH said it smelt great! I’m sure it’s just my nose as it gets great reviews. So I’m wanting to pass it on, if that’s ok with you?
Floofy you get first dibs as we all need to spread the perfumista love! I’ve got a couple of other naice samples to pass on if you want them? PM your address if you would like (absolutely no need to send me anything, I have plenty to keep me going).

SOTE is Captured by Candlelight- absolutely divine- just the kind of gourmand I want of a winter evening. I’m going to be sick of all these gourmands come spring, but right now I’m loving them!

I’m really sorry but I can’t remember who to thank (cheap or calm) for the AC rose (which I love on first sniff). And thanks for the mystery gourmand which smells really yummy. Also loving New York and looking forward to wearing it tomorrow. I’m such a lucky girl!

BluebellGal · 30/01/2018 19:48

It was calm who sent the inevitable crimes of passion along with generously sharing New York 55 and the mystery gourmand - is it ok if I pass it onto someone on this thread please? (first dibs to floofy as I said^)

SoFancy I love oud but it can be headache inducing for some and also quite faecal shall we say Blush

MrsPestilence · 30/01/2018 19:53

I might be weird but I would like a 15ml or thereabouts option for Les Exclusifs. I just seem to like little bottles.

SoF 4160 have Black Velvet Cafe (wood, coffee, tobacco and oud), Bhodi Language (sandalwood, cedarwood, white oudh and Buddhawood, with a hint of coconut and rum) and Be Careful What You Wish For (fruit plus 5 ouds)with oud. They do little sample bottles so you can explore.

At least you were not wearing Tarts Knicker Drawer MrsR

Welcome Adios

SotD is Pirates, yet again. Think the rest may have to go in the bath.

mrsreynolds · 30/01/2018 19:58

I've asked for a sample of that one 😂

Judydreamsofhorses · 30/01/2018 20:34

SOTD is Chanel 19, because dentist.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 30/01/2018 20:41

Oud is at best overripe melons that are a day past their best and old nappies from still small babies at worst. Eg not proper poo, but definitely organic waste matter.

Don't think I shall be invited to the Oud marketing board any time soon.

The fact that the very word conjures up tentacle faced aliens doesn't help tbh.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 30/01/2018 20:45

Bluebell- should I watch The Crown? I finished Downton yesterday (was late as ever to the party as I resisted it for years due to a bonnet aversion but you could probably hear me sobbing happily from there) and am now bereft.

BluebellGal · 30/01/2018 20:48

My favourite ouds are Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood and Agonist No 10 White Oud

BluebellGal · 30/01/2018 20:59

I absolutely love The Crown Piam I’m on second viewing Blush... ok I may be a closet Royalist, but even if you’re not that fussed about them, it’s bloody good telly, well acted and scripted, lots of interesting history and politics. I’m not a huge period drama fan & found Downtown ok in a sort of historical soap opera way (I know it’s popular, it just didn’t grip me) but The Crown is fab and series 2 is better than 1 (although 1 is very good). The Queen’s voice does verge on the ridiculous (apparently Claire Foy had to tone it down to suit our modern tastes!)

Linking it nicely back to the thread. There was a programme recently about the Coronation oil. Apparently it smelt of frankincense ambergris rose orange flowers jasmine musk and civet. Pell Well make a perfum inspired by it called 1953 available here:

pellwall.com/product-category/fine-fragrance/#

BluebellGal · 30/01/2018 21:02

Err not a whole programme about the coronation oil - but about the coronation. Not even we could talk about one Perfume for an hour. Hmmm perhaps No 5 could have a whole programme devoted to it, for its impact on fashion/ brand/ culture
