Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

On stuff we don’t get on with- Arpege. This to me is too floral and sharp without any warmth I like in a perfume.

Possibly the worst perfume I have ever tried though is Cabochard. Yea gads it is overpowering and headache inducing. Smells like aftershave on me too.

Kouros on men makes me heave too.

MrsGruber · 02/02/2018 15:19

I lurrve Cabochard Smile

SoFancy · 02/02/2018 16:10

I don't know Arpege or Cabochard. I'm very scaredy cat cautious of leather and tobacco notes, and picky about aldehydic perfumes. I will get around to sniffing them at some point in my life, though Grin

Midnight Poison, though...yum. I see Dior have lazily introduced a dullsville Poison Girl flanker recently, rather than get off their arses and bring back this discontinued beauty. Gah.

CountFosco · 02/02/2018 16:31

SotD Ambre Pamplemousse Rose, warm and soft spice. Thought I'd give my officemate a break after Maai yesterday! So impressed with the longevity of this as well. Sprayed at 8am but can still smell it if I sniff my wrists.

Well, TPS gremlins continue. I got my perfume society box and it's another Velvet Box rather than the joining box. I hope we don't bankrupt them with all these multiples they've been sending out!

explodingkittens · 02/02/2018 16:39

Hello all, sorry have been a crap perfumista recently but January just got the better of me. I even went into work scentless the other day Shock

I love Arpege and Cabochard. Love me a bit of leather and aldehyde...

Perfume Society arrived and I must say I am impressed (not with Pirates though, blech). Despite my snootiness over the summer, I am quite excited to try the Floral st chypre because, apart from anything else, if I like it the price for a FB is pretty good. I'm toying with the idea of joining TPS...

I've been wearing a fair bit of 4160 - they are just so easy and fun to wear. Have fallen for Bodhi Language completely; might have to invest in a 9ml. Captured by Candlelight is still a fave and Dark Heart is just a bit of a classic imo. Have not had a lot of success with some of the lighter frags (MitPG is a constant disappointment to me and Goodbye Piccadilly smells like I've rubbed Colgate on my wrists) but come the summer, who knows?

As well as Pirate I'm also wearing Knowing on my left wrist. It's a powerhouse.

CountFosco · 02/02/2018 16:49

I thought I didn't like aldehydes but I'm loving my aldehyde box from Bloom. Never say never Wink.

SoFancy · 02/02/2018 16:52

Oh, I'm open minded don't get me wrong (just scaredy cat) Grin.

I'm incredibly fickle, anyway. What I hate today, I might love this time next year!

MrsGruber · 02/02/2018 17:17

To be fair Frankie you need to try 80s or older Cabochard to get it in all its rich smoky beauty (eBay).

mrsreynolds · 02/02/2018 17:34

Kittens...knowing is a work of art imho
poison girl is a pink minger for sure...bluergh
Sote sexiest scent

mrsreynolds · 02/02/2018 18:01

I don't really do tobacco/leather/oud

I'm also not a gourmand fan

But equally sometimes I read about perfume notes and I think "wow that sounds perfect!" And I try it and hate it! (Guerlain I'm looking at you!)

I would never have ordered 4610 sexiest scent based on its notes and I LOVE it 😍

So..I'm up for trying anything really!

My only absolute no no's are;
Almond
Coconut
Franjipani
Lilly

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 02/02/2018 18:12

kittens Colgate? Really? Wow - it's a lovely light violet on me. Will sniff extra hard next time.

fosco If you haven't already I'd drop TPS a line - they got back to me really quickly. I suspect the Velvet box was a mistake...

SotD for Violetday was Rouge Bunny Rouge Cynefin. Had a interesting almost mould smell - reading Fragrantica and the "wet soil" review was spot on. I did like it but it didn't last long.

SotAfternoon was 4160s Amber Mambo. Damn them and their free samples- I LOVE this. Cola cubes mostly but other things flit in and out - I'm sure I got curry at one point but in a really good way. The 50ml is already on it's way (hangs head in shame)

MrsGruber · 02/02/2018 18:17

Ah Cheap - thanks for reporting back on AM - was intruigued by the Leonard Bernstein refs. How does it compare to Shazam!?

mrsreynolds · 02/02/2018 18:25

Cola cubes!!??
Ooooohhhh 😁
Does it have a youth dew vibe then?

Calmwhoknows · 02/02/2018 19:30

My SOTD was Oud Wood and Dark Vanilla by (shhh ...) Lynx! 😁 Lovely woodsy vanilla. Very strong though, you just need the tiniest bit. It’s on offer at Superdrug for £3.99 and you can test it there. There are two others and they are also good, Tobacco & Amber, and Iced Musk & Ginger.

Calmwhoknows · 02/02/2018 19:35

MrsGruber, on reflection I think the Heathrow Chanel salesman was trying to tell me that they would be stocking the smaller 75ml bottles there, not that Chanel would be introducing even smaller ones. I think I must have misunderstood! I wouldn’t pay £140 for a bottle, normally. I think I just got carried away being at the airport! Decants of 10mls or 15mls are definitely the way forward for me, although I do miss not having proper bottles when I get decants.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 02/02/2018 19:50

I've had an EBay gamble on some Les Exclusifs samples from a seller in France. Has good feedback- we'll see...

CountFosco · 02/02/2018 20:01

fosco If you haven't already I'd drop TPS a line - they got back to me really quickly. I suspect the Velvet box was a mistake...

I only hadn't up to now because I knew there was a box at the post office waiting for me. Having tried a few of the Velvet perfumes early there are some I'd be quite happy to have a second sample of Grin!

mrsreynolds · 02/02/2018 20:02

Oh!
I've just seen some faberge babe on etsy!
Memories....

EliseC1965 · 02/02/2018 20:22

SOTD was the Shay & Blue Dandelion Fig. Very inoffensive and not very long lasting. A very generic green floral.
Came home to a missed parcel. I’m actually hoping it’s not another PS box.
I’m on a no spend as I have so many little samples to use up and my goody box(es) are full to heaving. Going to Selfridges for a Suqqu facial next week, so I may browse the Chanel exclusives. Can’t afford any though.

I need to get OH something for Valentines as well. We usually set ourselves a tenner budget, so I might have a look at those Lynxes. (And steal them). But I don’t know what I want. I hate it when he surprises me.

JanetStWalker · 02/02/2018 21:26

Wearing a shit ton of Coromandel EDP today, I keep respraying this trying to recapture the crystalline patchouli edge of the EDT. The lack of that edge makes it slightly easier to wear if anything but more pedestrian if you know what I mean.

All Coromandel is good Coromandel though.

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/02/2018 21:39

SOTD was FM Hiver, but I had my PS box when I got home, so I am now in the Pirate sample. DP, who is usually very polite when he hates something (“i’m not sure it’s my favourite, but it’s what you think that matters...” type stuff) immediately said “I really don’t like that”.

So pleased it’s Friday. Hope everyone has lovely weekends planned.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 03/02/2018 08:18

Haven't tried Shazam so can't compare that one with Amber Mambo...

Not at all incensy or powdery or musky like Youth Dew. Fresh and bright and vibrant in a way that YD isn't. Loving it!!

I notice I Scent You a Day has reviewed the three...

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/02/2018 08:42

I love Arpege and Cabochard. Goodbye Piccadilly is leathery lavender on me. I have the new 4160’s Amberama. I like it (on first sniff) but don’t love it. It reminds me of Spanish soap. And it doesn’t last particularly well.

CountFosco · 03/02/2018 09:24

@Calmwhoknows my TOD arrived just now so I'm now smelling of chocolate. Thankyou!

mrsreynolds · 03/02/2018 09:35

Oh that sounds interesting cheap!

Sotd sexiest scent
