I've recently replaced all of my make up and have made the switch from high end to cheaper brands I used to buy lancome, Clinique, ysl, dior, mac, benefit and urban decay however when everything needed replacing I didn't feel I could justify 400 pounds plus so now switched to a couple of cheaper brands

The best switches I've made are

Elf primer instead of soft box saving 20.00

Make up revolution eyeshadow pallet instead of urban decay naked pallet saving 33.00

I literally can not tell the difference between high end and cheap and cheerful so what are your best dupes/switches?

Ooh, thanks passmethewine. I've been debating getting the ABH one for a while, but have balked at the cost, as the shades would be a bit of a departure for me, and might turn out not to suit. Far better to try a cheaper version!

W7's latest palette looks to be a dupe of Urban Decay's Heat palette. I don't know how good it is though. I've got the UD Naked 1 and 3 palettes and have refused to allow myself to buy any more eyeshadow until they're finished. I've had the first one since before I had DC so it's at least 5 years old!

Another vote for the Altruist SPF50. I use it every day both under makeup and on it's own. Love The Ordinary too - made a noticeable difference to my skin.

Altruist SPF 50..... does it “roll” when makeup is applied on top? TIA 😊

Couldn't get on with the W7 'They're Real' dupe - it went in the bin after two goes.

Love the MUR eyeshadow pallets though.

I like No. 7 blushers and repurchase, although still have a love for Benefit Dandelion.

I bought some Max Factor primer and it was so shit I nearly cried, not sure why I got unreasonably emotional about primer but I was hoping to find an alternative before my husband discovers how much the Hourglass one is 😎

Essence lash princess falsh lash effect mascara is about £3 in wilkos and is a dupe for a high end, its good stuff. I have a few bits from essence like the gel polishes but they don't stand up to use in saunas / steam rooms. Eye shadows I tend to buy smash box as better pigmentation. Rimmel foundation is much better these days, the silver lid range I prefer to my clarins mascara drops that I tried and now in the back of my make up draw.

Never found a good waterproof eyeliner, the essence one I tight line with doesn't stay put

Perfume parlour are fab, used to buy perfume and it went off as I lose interest quickly. Can recommend these, only 1 dud. The oils last better on the skin and handy for handbags.

@BluePony yes, a white one, it was like a greasy watered down moisturiser really nasty texture compared to the Hourglass stuff.

Loving this thread. Glad to hear the love for makeup revolution they're one of my favourite Brands. Love their setting sprays and the iconic pallete is a good dupe for urban decay naked palletes. I actually prefer it tbh becasue I think urban decay shadows just aren't good quality for the price.

Formerly, does the setting spray really make a difference?
