I've recently replaced all of my make up and have made the switch from high end to cheaper brands I used to buy lancome, Clinique, ysl, dior, mac, benefit and urban decay however when everything needed replacing I didn't feel I could justify 400 pounds plus so now switched to a couple of cheaper brands

The best switches I've made are

Elf primer instead of soft box saving 20.00

Make up revolution eyeshadow pallet instead of urban decay naked pallet saving 33.00

I literally can not tell the difference between high end and cheap and cheerful so what are your best dupes/switches?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round-up of Mumsnetters' favourite beauty dupes.

The new maybelline super stay foundation is meant to be a dupe for HUDA faux filter. I am waiting to run out of my current foundation before purchasing. for once

OP I'm blaming you and you alone for all the stuff I've ordered because they're dupes. This has not saved me money Grin

Superdrug naturally radiant moisturiser cleanser etc - exactly the same as the nip and fab glycolic stuff and much cheaper.
Love makeup revolution in general.
The ordinary foundation is fab too.

Kiko cosmetics - their stuff is great and reasonably priced

I think Vaseline does the same as 8 hour cream.
ANY cheap shampoo but, I do like a better conditioner.
ANY skin care from Garnier over more expensive brands.

I don't skimp on SPF 50 with a 5 star UVA rating but, I can get my preferred one from Amazon for £3.50 per tube.
I also use expensive Vitamin E face oil. Haven't found a dupe.
I also LOVE wunderbrow!!!!

I must come back when I have my makeup bag.

I like the Sleek makeup trios! Super pigmented so, I brush off some colour on the back of my hand but, they are AMAZING. The orange trio is great for any skin colour.

I also live for Primark £1 nails. I've had a gorgeous holographic set on fo a week now and they've stayed put. Usually my acrylic nails are £5 a week (£20 a month)

I don't wear makeup every day and even when I do it's not usually a full face unless I'm going to a party or something, and always been on a tight budget so haven't tried many fancy brands, but some cheap stuff that I've found to be great for me:

  • ELF lip primer
  • Superdrug's B. Micellar cleansing wipes
  • Boots No.7 pressed powder, and bronzer, and primers, stay perfect eye shadow pencil/crayon things, concealer
  • Soap & Glory mascara and Sexy Motherpucker lipsticks
  • I wouldn't really say The Body Shop are cheap but I guess compared to other fancy brands they are. I love their makeup-up brushes, their BB cream, lots of their skincare products
  • Real Techniques make-up brushes
  • Sleek powder blusher and eye shadow palletes
  • Barry M nail varnish, clear lip liner, eye shadow pencil/crayon things

Body Shop Lightening Touch Pen (£14) is basically the same as YSL Touche Eclat (£25). And M&S Monotheme Leather (£22) smells virtually identical to Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (£230).

passmethewine, that looks like an amazing dupe! I have a Make Up Revolution palette and its great. May have to check out this Anastasia dup Grin

Meadow, the Body Shop is not particularly cheap at full price, but they almost always have 30% or 40% discounts. I agree that a lot of the products are good. Codes available online

One of my favourite eyeshadows was from the Poundshop! It is a lovely bronze colour and highly pigmented. And of course it was only £1 😀

another one here who loves NYX. I am 47 so no spring chicken, but love their products. I always used to go for top end stuff and am now so pleased with myself when I find a really good bargain alternative.

Nivea for all face related stuff, Rimmel eye pencils, No 7 liquid eyeliner.

The only thing I cant find is a really good cheap mascara. Tried loads out but had to go back to Chanel again just before Christmas. Oh and haven't found anything yet to beat Bare Minerals Marvellous Moxie lipstick.

and yes second all Essie stuff, although I did think £20 was a bit steep for the gel nails stuff.

Perfume parlour version of Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge (niche perfume) £195 versus £10. I have a good nose and it smells very similar. Longevity and sillage also impressive.

Do I win the prize for greatest saving on a dupe?!

Oh you bunch of bastards - I've just spent a fortune in Boots and Superdrug!

Off to look at The Perfume Parlour now. I may be some time...

Rimmel Kate Moss 08 is a good dupe for Mac Brave.
I've recently bought the W7 palette 'Colour Me Nude' which is a very good dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 3. I had a quick play around with a few of the colours last night and was very pleased with it!

Nurse - come back and tell all when your perfume parlour order arrives! I love getting a stash of stuff from them. I've had LOADS over the years and only had a couple of duffers.

Maccapacca88 Although the mascara (Boots Natural range) is called Waterguard - it is NOT waterproof but merely water resistant so comes off easily when you want it to. When my eyes are at their watery worst I do not use it.
