Lipstick Challenge January 2018.

Come my pretties.... Some of us did this last year, the idea of this is wearing a different lipstick everyday. I have more lipsticks than you can shake a stick at, I collect them. Grin

Today I wore Kiko metal lipstick in Unconventional Gold, from their Arctic Holiday collection. It wasn't very pigmented, but it still looked pretty, (I'm partly blaming this on the condition of my lips, as they're as dry as the Sahara at the moment, and a bit flaky and scabby and disgusting at the moment to boot.) I will post a picture of the lipstick in a bit, it looks very pretty in the tube. Smile

Ooooo lotta. I’m so tempted. Will look for that. I’ve always stayed away from oranges but quite excited to think I may have another option.

I am loving lurking on your thread and love seeing the photos. I don't have many lipsticks but have been trying to make more of an effort. I recently bought Mac Mehr which I am loving.

I have a question about lipliners. I find that lipsticks tend to bleed or smudge below my lower lip and this still seems to happen even with a liner. I find liner so hard to get right - I have a red 'lipstick queen' liner to go with my reds and oranges but it is so soft that putting it on is like watching a kid with crayons. I also have a Mac liner (bought originally to go with my MAC Twig) and it is so hard that it hardly leaves any line at all no matter how hard I press.

Can anyone recommend a brand of liner to try?

Also, how do you apply the lipsticks, from the tube or with a brush?

thank you

Notmybag · 22/01/2018 19:33

@AnotherPinkiePieStory is that smashbox set a good buy? It is very well priced. What size are the lipsticks?

BusterGonad · 22/01/2018 22:10

Notmy I have a Mac liner and I love it, I warm it up on the back of my hand first, I also have a few Max Factor pencils, No7 automatics and Rimmel automatics. My go too's are the Rimmel and No7, if I was to choose the best out of the 2 then it'll be No7 as it has a sharpener in the end!

BusterGonad · 22/01/2018 22:12

Oh another thing Notmy, you might want to give your lip pencil a quick sharpen, maybe the end has gone hard!

isambardo · 23/01/2018 10:47

Notmy, good question about lip liners, I’ve not used many either. Mac ones are dry but do give me a nice colour. The only other ones I have used are Nyx which give great colour but left my lips a bit tacky, it felt quite weird.

My absolute favourite lip pencil is Mac Half Red, such a nice burgundy kind of colour, I sometimes wear it just with balm on top.

I am excited about today’s lipstick, been wanting to try it for a while. It’s Marc Jacobs Le Marc in Jolly Molly. It’s BRIGHT pink, definitely not my usual but I love it! Nice texture and easier to apply than some of the darker colours in the range. Seriously bright!

notmybag here is pic for size comparison. Apologies as I’ve just realised that an egg is quite a variable feast size-wise! Blush also decorated by DD!
Lovely but I’m a sucker for a mini product! One thing which I’ve noticed is that the lipstick was in my trouser pocket all day and it was soft by the end of the day. Still usable but squashed against side of case. Haven’t had that happen before.

Today is Nyx liquid suede. Great applicator but dries quickly. This is it post coffee and started wearing off. It’s a small pic so you prob can’t tell but I get conscious of it flaking esp when so bright. Might pass it on to a friend’s teenager!

Not wearing makeup today, so I went for a tinted lipbalm/gloss - Kopari Mai Tai. It's supposed to be a coral-pink.

It's quite subtle in colour, but very glossy and nourishing. Applying too much (which is very easy to do) makes it go a bit stringy though, which I am not a fan of. It tastes and smells of coconut which is nice.

Lottapianos · 23/01/2018 12:23

LOVE that colour, isambardo! I'm a sucker for a bright lippy

Notmybag · 23/01/2018 19:38

@AnotherPinkiePieStory great picture thanks! Grin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 24/01/2018 11:17

Clinique Blushing pop today. Kind of 90’svibe nude which I love. Much better than my Charlotte Tilbury nudes.

How long do the Marc Jacobs lipsticks last isambardo ? I love the colour selection but hate reapplying!

BusterGonad · 24/01/2018 13:26

Today I'm wearing MJ Boy Gorgeous again, I think it's my favorite lipstick! I'm very jealous about Jolly Molly though!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 24/01/2018 16:19

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in The Rabbit.
It's a matte/satin, bright fuchsia with blue micro shimmer. It's really pretty, wears well and I like it.

mowglik · 24/01/2018 19:38

Lovely colours here, haven’t been able to get the lipsticks out as been super busy so it’s been a slick of balm most days but quietly lurking and enjoying the pics.

Re lip liners I have a few from rimmel that I really like, very cheap too so not too annoying if it doesn’t work for you.

BusterGonad · 24/01/2018 20:09

They often have the Rimmel ones in the £1 shop!

Lottapianos · 24/01/2018 21:13

Rimmel lip liners are fab. Never seen the point in pricey lip liners

Anyone tried the Laura Mercier Velour Matte lipsticks? They're a new collection. Sali Hughes is raving about them and have read great reviews about pigment, hydration and staying power. V tempted

isambardo · 25/01/2018 11:16

Another pinkie pie, the marc jacobs are quite variable for lasting, they claim 10 hours which is nonsense (on me anyway). They transfer a lot when I drink so I do need to touch up regularly.

Some colours are stunning though - Blow, Boy gorgeous, Je'taime, Willful, Jolly molly are all unique and gorgeous. I got two reds in the set (bright red Oh Miley and raspberry red Charlotte), lovely colours both but I'm finding them tricky to get perfectly applied and a bit slippy in texture. I'm wearing Charlotte now so will see how it lasts.

My favourite so far (surprisingly for me as I struggle with brown) is No Angel, a nude-brown colour. It's a little more matte and great everyday. Infamous is mlbb on me but v similar to other colours I own. The only ones which I don't like are Sonic Truth (concealer lips) and Georgie Girl which is a white based pink and looks awful on. Both nice colours when swatched though and I'm sure are lovely on the right skin tone. I'm v pale - No 7 match made analysis said I'm Calico which I think is as pale as you can get.

Lotto I love the look of those Laura Mercier lipsticks!

I think my next purchase might be more of the Mac Viva Glams. I only own Viva Glam V, it's a guilt free purchase as all the money goes to charity Wink

isambardo · 25/01/2018 11:20

Meant to add pics, this is Marc Jacobs Charlotte lipstick and my mug after one sip of tea. Lots of transfer but still plenty left on my lips.

Riskit, where do you buy colour pop lipstick? That colour sounds stunning.

Stunning colour, isambardo!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 25/01/2018 17:18

isambardo, I bought them on the Colourpop website when they've had free international shipping.
Their products are really good - I have some of their cream eye shadows, lip liners and other lip products, and they really are all very good.

Because they ship from the US (I'm in the UK), shipping is quite expensive, and on top of that there's duty and VAT. I must admit that I purchased in batches as to avoid having to pay VAT and import duty.

Hopefully they'll get the free international shipping offer again soon (I think the offer was in May last year).

isambardo · 25/01/2018 17:28

Thanks Riskit, I had a look online but couldn’t see a UK supplier.

isambardo · 26/01/2018 10:34

Wearing my absolute favourite today - Mac Ruby Woo. Got a few compliments on the school run too, so it’s not just me that likes it!
