Lipstick Challenge January 2018.

Come my pretties.... Some of us did this last year, the idea of this is wearing a different lipstick everyday. I have more lipsticks than you can shake a stick at, I collect them.

Today I wore Kiko metal lipstick in Unconventional Gold, from their Arctic Holiday collection. It wasn't very pigmented, but it still looked pretty, (I'm partly blaming this on the condition of my lips, as they're as dry as the Sahara at the moment, and a bit flaky and scabby and disgusting at the moment to boot.) I will post a picture of the lipstick in a bit, it looks very pretty in the tube.

@mowglik They're all in one place, which I think helps! I do get stuck on the same colours though, which I'm going to try and get out of during this challenge!

Well, I've started counting mine. 291 so far! I did these two boxes and three make up bags. This is just the tip of the iceberg. These are all lipsticks before I get into glosses and liquid lipsticks as well! And bearing in mind I almost halved what was in those boxes last year...

@SapphireSeptember that's an impressive collection! But don't lipsticks have a shelf life of about 2 years? A year for lipgloss? I have about 37 I think, I threw quiet a few away a month back, and need to narrow it down some more

@BusterGonad I really like that colour! I wouldn't say it's too much at all.

Iris I don't pay attention to those. If a lipstick smells and feels okay I'll use it. If it's gone off I will chuck it, had to do that with a few that I hadn't had that long. A prime example of one I've had ages is the Revlon lipstick I got in 2009 that I still use. I sanitise them every now and again (and hope I don't bump into someone I know when buying cheap vodka for that sole purpose, I should probably do that out of town) and hope for the best!

I don't pay attention to use by dates either, I know if it's gone off by either what it looks like (white coating) or what it feels/smells like. I also clean my lipsticks every 6 months or so, using a wet wipe/hand wipe. The hand wipes are better as they are anti bacterial. I don't usually advocate anti bac stuff but for make up I do.

It's a no makeup day for me, so I'm just wearing a tinted balm. It's Pixie my Petra in natural rose. It's a bit too tawny for me but it'll do!

Mowglik that Nars Cruella is a bit brighter in reality, I find it’s a really wearable bold red (might be the formula).

Buster that Rouge Noir looks great, is it quite a brick red? I love those kind of colours.

I seem to have gone the opposite to everyone and chosen a bright lipstick today! Mac Flat Out Fabulous. It’s retro matte so a bit drying but I love it.

And as to NYX, I really like the matte lipsticks. I’ve only tried one other product which is the soft matte lip cream. Some of the nicest colours ever but lasts about 5 minutes on the lips which is a shame.

Any recommendations on other high street brands? I only got into lipstick when I discovered Mac, the only cheaper brand I’ve liked so far is NYX but I haven’t tried loads.

Bourgois Rouge Velvet in Flaming Rose. It's from the Amazon Advent Calendar - like the colour and the pointy shape of it, but the texture is terrible on me, it's magnifying every line and making my lips look like they're crumbling.

Isambardo, that really is flat out fabulous! Re high street lipsticks, I love Revlon - the regular lipsticks, not the crayons or lip butters. Also like Maybelline. Essence mattes (available in Wilkos) are excellent

Buster, what are these 'no make up' days you speak of?

Revlon HD liquid matte thing today in HD Passion. It's a bit less pink and more matte in real life.

Lotta the days when you can't be bothered with work and even make up won't cheer up your day! 😂

Yes to Revlon (this thread in 2007 turned me on to them!) Kiko (always on offer) and I’m also loving Sleek crayons (bit of a Nars dupe I think). Oh yeah and Wet n Wild from Amazon and Essence from Wilko!
I thought I couldn’t compete so counted my stash; 81!!!
Wow. That includes some tinted balms but good grief, no wonder make up drawer won’t shut!

KIKO lip tint with Maybelline baby lips over top. Looks glittery but really only shiny! Rubbish photo!

Today I wore cheerleader liquid matte lipstick by huda. It’s a bit bright for everyday wear (!) so have taken it off for now but will reapply for the evening

It’s a fair bit brighter irl!

Today is Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Désirée (327). It looks very dark in the tube - almost like a Rouge Noir kind of colour, but applied, it's a warm dark red. I think it was a limited edition from ages ago, so I'm trying to use it up.
I like wearing this kind of colour when I wear a mustard yellow top.

Today is Colourpop Ultra Blotted Lip in Split. On the website it looks really sheer, which is the idea, but I can't get it like that without it looking streaky, so it has to be built up, and it ends up quite a bright raspberry, which I don't mind, but the formula is hard to work with IMO, but it does dry down completely budge proof.

Super cheap Collection Velvet Kiss lip cream in Mango. Super bright orange-red matte, not too drying and reasonable staying power. It makes me look like an 1950's advertising poster. I love it, it's a good dupe for a Stila liquid lipstick in Tesoro.
