Well, it's really winter here today, if only hail rather than snow, so the SoTD choice is between incense (Cardinal) and sandalwood (Dries van Noten). So it will be DvN, because I have a decent sized decant, and only a scratch of the Heeley remains. If I ever see a tester of Avignon on a day out (no stockist within 120 miles) I will try it; so many of you have commented on the similarities, and CdG is more affordable than Heeley for an FB.

Sending tidings of comfort and joy to all sufferers of colds, toothache and perfume-induced penury. I think I have nearly finished Christmas shopping, which is a relief.

BluebellGal · 08/12/2017 10:04

Sock I rate CDG Floriental- it’s full of incense. Well done on finishing Xmas shopping- I haven’t even started yet Blush

SOTD is Ormonde Jayne Vanille d’Iris. Smelt a bit boozy on opening but it’s dried down into a very smoky vanilla laced with Iris root, it’s rather incense heavy I think so fits the churchy vibe of the thread right now. Which reminds me - I need to find a Christingle / nativity toddler mass to take my little one too. Apparently there are few near me. I’m reading the Christmas story to her and would like to bring it to life

BluebellGal · 08/12/2017 10:08

Grin Pest that’s why I try to keep my daughter out of the kitchen when I cook with cbeebies Wink

CountFosco · 08/12/2017 13:12

ACD SotD Trefle Pur. Basil, bitter orange and violet leaves. Less citrus today, more green and a touch of floral. I really like this.

In comparison to the 4160Ts and Papillons I've been using over the last month the ACs aren't lasting considering they are EdP. I'm topping up at lunchtime every day now. And the top and mid notes are lovely but I've yet to get any of the base notes.

It's my work's Christmas Party tonight. Now what perfume to wear? Tempted to go far away from the citrus for a night out and go floral or oriental but on the other hand I'm tempted by Doe in the Snow as a seasonal variation. Decisions decisions.

MrsPestilence · 08/12/2017 13:30

SotD is Reem Acra, orange blossom, pear and faint accords of amber, it is almost an oriental and am already on reapplication. I've been quite generous with the top up and now it smells better.

Hello all, TGIF! This has felt like one loooooong week. All my students are shattered and stressed and grumpy, and every time one of them moans I feel like yelling 'welcome to my world!!!!', but instead I offer tissues and sympathy and mince pies... roll on the Christmas break!

I faffed and dithered over SOTD today, finally plumping for Dune which feels Wrong now. Sigh. It's quite full-on and cloying today. I've been thinking all day that I should've gone for something more austere and churchy and now reading this thread has convinced me!

explodingkittens · 08/12/2017 15:05

Lady Rose Lion is half price SOTW #justsayin' Grin

BluebellGal · 08/12/2017 16:37

If anyone wants to fill their own crackers with scent samples or other lovely gifts John Lewis are selling their boxes of empty crackers off for £5.50

Bluebell and Pest we're in a happy space now where he's content to be "fetcher" and grab ingrediants out of the fridge or pantry for me. Not looking forward to the point where he else's up and wants to do more than that...

Yesterday's SotD was ACAC Vanille Insensee. This one was ok but not as good as some of the others - it plays safe and commits to neither vanilla nor incense.

Today's ACAC was Silver Iris but since I've been into a big city today I've decided to save it for the next advent calendar soap day and instead had a try of Vol De Nuit.

In. Love.

It stayed on my scarf all day and had that perfect gentle violet that some of the old Guerlains do so well but was powdery and bright rather than melancholy or nostalgic. Mmmmmmm.

(But, surprise of the day, couldn't find a Guerlain counter or even stand in Selfridges. Do they not get on?)

Fosco today's ACD sounds beautiful. Fingers crossed it's in the advent calendar...

Any ideas ladies for kids scent sets? Don't need to be too serious since we're talking toddler and early school years but thinking of Christmas gifts for good friends DDs. Her two year old can paint her own nails better than I can so something in style and beauty would be much enjoyed...

OCSockOrphanage · 08/12/2017 20:41

SoTD ended up being the Creed Santal, which was in my bag, It's a bit meh. Doesn't last on me, isn't distinctive, no reason to buy.... unless it works for you, I suppose. Someone will waltz in and tell me it's wondrous now.

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/12/2017 20:52

SOTD is LDDM. We have a load of snow here, which makes me so grumpy - I just want to be able to walk around without being scared I will fall on my arse.

BluebellGal · 08/12/2017 21:06

I’m so jealous of your snow Judy we never get any here Xmas Envy

Liberty GOTD was lame- an aromatherapy associates morning revive roll on which has barely any fragrance- grapefruit rosemary and juniper. There’s no point in it cause it doesn’t smell of much. Immediately covered with Ormonde Jayne Vanille Iris which is fabby.

Feeling very disappointed with this AC and jealous of all of yours (and the M&S one). Hopefully it will get better but won’t be bothering next year!

OCSockOrphanage · 08/12/2017 21:07

Judy, we dream of snow in Cornwall. It's almost unknown, and doesn't last past lunchtime, so it's magical. We had hail instead, which isn't even close!

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/12/2017 22:12

bluebell,OC,you can have this snow. Nothing has been gritted so the roads and pavements are like ice rinks. I think it’s nice to look out at, from inside your warm house with the Christmas tree twinkling, but as soon as you have to go anywhere it’s a disaster. A load of my students were snowed in - all the schools in the ‘Shire were actually shut because it’s so bad out the road - which meant scheduled assessed meetings couldn’t go ahead, and puts us a week behind. I am panicking about not getting modules finished by the end of the semester in January.

So, yeah, grumpy.

teta · 08/12/2017 23:01

Lots of snow here with very icy roads and accidents. I’m just relieved I made it home in a blizzard from dd2s school in the middle of nowhere.Ds1 is boarding tonight because we can’t get him.
Rosee de Nuit this morning to warm me up. Eau d Hadrien tonight because it was my first ever niche and the Cypress still makes me go weak at the knees. And the delivery man left it for me in the yellow grit box at the bottom of our hill as he couldn’t make it up today!

BluebellGal · 09/12/2017 09:13

The fairytale of snow during the festive period versus the reality of it eh? Sorry it’s causing you grief. Actually I’m supposed to be flying to Ireland this week to deliver training / attend an important meeting so I’m praying for snow disruption now!

No SOTD yet as I’m still in PJs but will look for a Atelier Cologne in celebration of your wonderful ACs. I’m disappointed (again) with Libertys GOTD - the third cleanser in 9 days! It’s also by a brand I’ve not heard of - Skin Laundry - hopefully it’s decent!

BluebellGal · 09/12/2017 09:14

^ sorry, praying for NO snow disruption. I’ll be royally pissed off if the training doesn’t go ahead as I’ve put a lot of effort into developing a bespoke course

explodingkittens · 09/12/2017 09:34

Brrrrr! Chilly even down south today, although it's lovely and bright. Haven't chosen SOTD yet but will need something very warming as am spending the afternoon standing around outside my local supermarket (voluntary stuff, fun but cold!)

After reading about Lady Rose Lion yesterday I'm wondering if Mitsouko might do the trick...but I associate Mitsouko with glamorous evening-wear, stepping in and out of black cabs in stilettos and fur, not shaking a collecting tin outside Waitrose wearing a woolly hat and DMs!

I too love snow to look at, from the comfort of inside. But I loathe loathe loathe walking in it, am terrified of falling. Can do knee-deep sledging-type snow, but icy slush is the pits. My old job involved visiting people at home, and snowy weather was the worst. Not only was I constantly having to dig the car out of it, but taking wellies on and off on the doorstep drove me mad too Grin

MrsPestilence · 09/12/2017 09:54

Freezing and frosty here but no snow. Have got my Norwegian jumper and cream jeans (must stop reading the Parisian thread, my interpretation may be a little off).

SotD is Pharrell Williams Girl, violet, wood, concrete, pepper and playdoh, it is different Grin

CountFosco · 09/12/2017 10:46

No snow here yet.

ACD SotD Oolang Infini. Oolang, bergamot and gaiac wood. Just put it on and as usual for AC the top notes are lovely, it's reminding me of Earl Grey tea initially (I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise!). See how it lasts.

explodingkittens · 09/12/2017 12:14

I went for LADDM in the end. Not exactly original, but every time I wear this I wonder why I bother wearing anything else!

We're flying to NE Scotland on the 21st and returning on the 24th. Snow disruption on the way back would put a proper dampener on Christmas...

PerfumeIsAMessage · 09/12/2017 12:39

I just ordered samples of Lonesome Rider, Cardinal and top ups of the other Tauers I love from the only place in Italy I can get this stuff. 10% off so I got dd a box of Molton Brown bubble baths as well.

I am just lurching between Opium and Tauers still.

Your AC musings are interesting as, as you know, I am unimpressed with the ones I have. That said, dd collared all the citrusses and left me with the ouds etc. The only one you've mentioned so far which she let me have was the Iris which I found too aftershavey iirc.

FloofyCatIsComingToTown · 09/12/2017 12:49

I'm really very much enjoying reading everyone's advent updates, but how annoying and disappointing for you bluebell, you would expect the Liberty one to be amazing! Maybe they are just saving the best til the end of the month?

My SOTD is a freebie sample called Glossier You from an American overpriced (but apparently very on trend ) beauty site that my teens adore . Irritatingly I really quite like it, it's designed to be a "skin scent" straight away. I feel very fashionable and on trend, at least.

Calm I bet you wish you were still in Australia! Snowy up here too. I need one of those fabulous jumpers MrsP as we were going out today but it's a bit slippy and cold for me to be sitting outside for too long, even with a lap blanket So the plan for today is to stay tucked under two duvets and eating a chocolate orange.

I hope the snow doesn't disrupt everyone (does anyone remember the Library of Fragrance snow perfume, or did I dream it?) and that we are all suitable fragranced - I am thinking Shalimar might be good for my post bath perfume! Or possibly Penhaligons Orange Blossom to match with my chocolate

Motoko · 09/12/2017 13:33

I saw a forecast last night that North Wales and the Midlands are going to have up to a foot of snow on Sunday.
I'm in South Wales, so we've only had sleet here, and the duck's pond was frozen this morning (we have a couple of ducks and a few chickens).

SOTD is Shazam. The last time I tried it, all I could smell was fizzy cola and patchouli. Today, I'm still getting those, but I can smell something else too, not sure what, but it's a bit powdery. Kind of reminds me of those Refreshers sweets! I've only just put it on, so it will be interesting to see what the dry down is like.

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/12/2017 13:38

SOTD is MMM Fireplace. I booked us a late lunch at a nice restaurant because the last couple of weekends have been largely rubbish due to my snotty cold, so now we need to trail out in the snow. There has been more overnight so walking shouldn’t be too bad.

kittens I will give you live weather updates from the home-front for your Christmas travel.
