Good luck for rtc judy
I've got at least 4

Hello all.

SotD: SL Fille en Aiguilles.

Anyone else mad for ultra-smoky smokebombs of smoke? I can't get enough, especially now that the weather has cooled. Lusting after Slumberhouse Norne but not sure how wearable it is (and pricewise, oof). I love it as a sample but do I want to smell of raked leaves and smoked sausages every day?

Much sympathy for all the dental woes.

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 18:19

Hello Trained. Raked leaves and smoke sounds right up Pest's street? I'm enjoying the smoke of Lonestar Memories. I always like the smell of Bonfire Night, but would pass on the sausage note, whatever Tania Sanchez says about the seductive power of cured meats. Hmm

explodingkittens · 01/11/2017 18:51

Oooh, trained, must admit Fille en aiguilles is on my 'once and never again' list. I'm very fond of the SL line but that one is awful on me, like an acrid, burning pine toilet cleaner. How do you find it?

Quite like the sound of raked leaves and sausages though!

Have loved Faubourg today. It really is my ultimate grown-up scent I think - even more so than Youth Dew or Aromatics Elixir, or even Mitsouko. It is a proper grande dame, imo.

Have been thinking about bedtime scents - I mean perfumes to sleep in, not saucy ones Grin. I like the idea of putting perfume on to sleep in - what are people's faves?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 01/11/2017 19:13

I just posted on the old thread, but here I am again!
I like smokey perfumes, definitely, and also 24 Rue Faubourg. I smelled it at Mahon airport this summer (along with Knowing) and thought both were lovely, grown up and chique.

Bedtime scents- I need something undemanding, and tend to reach for Anais Anais, Dune, LHB, or one of the karvol-y Tauers. The worst thing would be accidentally spraying a scrubber once you're in your jammies and having to start all over again.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 01/11/2017 19:17

I'm quite fond of Shalimar for bed. It's lovely drifting off to sleep with it wafting up from my wrist.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 01/11/2017 19:22

I don't have a bedtime scent but have always thought that if I did it would be Shalimar.

Although I don't have a signature scent I've thought a few times that in another life I'd have a signature night time scent and only someone significant would know. I suppose I could just start now but springing it on DH now doesn't seem quite the same as that journey of discovery if you know what I mean!

MrsPestilence · 01/11/2017 19:22

Some one mention smoke?

Trained 4160 have Another Kiss by the Fireside, Who Knew (lapsang and rose)and A kiss by the Fireside (which was so volatile and smoky it got reformulated, but after five years it has calmed down and is scrumptious). All come in 9ml sizes. A Kiss by the Fireside is not available as a sample size, but the others are. I'd be tempted to go for a comitment phobic and throw in another just for fun.
Union do Celtic Fire which is Laphroaig Whisky without the whisky (all peaty), also Gunpowder Rose. Samples available via the link.
Smolderose (can you tell I like my smoke with roses Grin) This sample set has the perfume oil in it. A kick of rose, rosehip, incense and smoke.

Funnily enough the only scent-at-bedtime I've tried so far has been...Shalimar!

BluebellGal · 01/11/2017 20:18

I enjoy wearing Shay and Blue Framboise Noire to bed. Or if I need help to relax & nod off I use a Neals Yard lavender spray.

I’ve got a client meeting tomorrow so may need to hold off on Pest C if it’s a heavy hitter! But will definitely wear it on Friday

BluebellGal · 01/11/2017 20:20

I think I’d enjoy wearing Shalimar to bed but would have to wait for the dry down as I find the opening rather overwhelming!

TeaAndToast85 · 01/11/2017 20:21

@GreenPolishToGo I think you might be right Sad it's a shame because I had just settled on Eau Premiere as the perfect perfume to buy. I'm expecting my first DC, and I'm quite keen to treat myself to a new 'mum perfume'! When I think of my mum when I was growing up, I think of big smells like No 5, Magie Noire, Ysatis...I don't want to copy those, but I was hunting for something with the same sort of effect, but a bit more modern. I guess the notes are floral and aldehydes? Not an expert. Can anybody think of an alternative to Eau Premiere for me to try?

TeaAndToast85 · 01/11/2017 20:28

@explodingkittens I put portrait of a lady on to sleep in the other day (because I fancied being posh) - it was a bit too intense! I can imagine more gentle florals being nice though.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/11/2017 20:29

SOTD is MMM Fireplace. It was weirdly mild here today so actually felt wrong. I’ve had gloves on this week.

Thanks for all the dental good vibes. mrsm when are you in on Friday? I’m 2.15 so at least don’t have to return to work afterwards.

tea, do none of the other Chanels float your boat? I am hugely fickle but always have 19 on the go - if I had to pick a “signature scent” that would be it (and the one my DP would be able to sniff out as me in a crowded room).

TeaAndToast85 · 01/11/2017 20:37

@Judydreamsofhorses I think 19 is lovely on other people, but I find it too sharp on my skin. I like Coco Noir/ Coco Mademoiselle, but I feel like they are a bit too ubiquitous? Chance is OK, but doesn't really grab me.

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 20:40

MrsMacNally off I go to find those on Fragrantica...

explodingkittens I can't bear any other SL frags! Ok, not entirely true - I bought my mum the orange blossom one which is perfectly nice - but the biggies that everyone seems to love (Cedre, Chergui, Ambre Sultan etc) are like kryptonite to me, far too sweet and rich. Cedre was a major scrubber - and I am a fiend for woody scents so go figure.

On me FeA is very soft and gentle, a bit like cedar incense. But I like a lot of smoke. When I first tried it it seemed to vanish in moments (I ended up spraying it on my underwear to try to get it to linger) so it's funny that you had such a strong reaction to it. I find it so light.

MrsPestilence I will pootle off to those links immediately because I don't like the idea of a smoky scent out there in the world as yet untested on my wrist. Many thanks!

As for a bedtime scent, Rose 31 is quiet, warm and woody.

MrsPestilence · 01/11/2017 20:40

I tend to wear Mitsouko or Up the Apples and Pears to sleep in.

Tea with the modern formulations Arpege is meant to be better than No5.

How did I manage to forget Tea for Two, if you like your smoke sweet Trained or Copal Azur if you like it cool and incense loaded.

MrsM shall we go for BlueC tomorrow?

Onynx · 01/11/2017 20:45

Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps to sleep in. Bought SJP Lovely last week but gave it to me sister in law as I couldn't smell it on me at all, yet it is beautiful on her. Have just rediscovered EA Red Door - may purchase!

MrsPestilence · 01/11/2017 20:46

Tauer samples at Les Senteurs Trained

Which ones smell most of Karvol PiaM? My bottle of Karvol is unlikely to last the winter Sad

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 20:47

Having read BluebellGal's comment I remembered Neal's Yard Frankincense, which is the only scent I own which has never felt too much (and the only one I've had multiple compliments on). So irl that is the one I'd be most likely to wear in bed.

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 20:49

Blue hope you're doing OK? In fact I didn't think Pest C was skanky or loud. (I'd wear to the office). But I only applied a dab.

Tea - Lovely idea. My sense of smell did do a bit of a re-set after having DC1, and I couldn't bear a number of things I'd previously loved. Think it might've been a bonding thing and not getting in the way of smelling each other? But that's a good excuse to treat yourself again afterwards Smile

Bedtime scents: I thought immediately of Shalimar too. I'd love some Nuit Etoilee for that very purpose. And my Hyperbole, which arrived today, might also be a contender. It seems to land mid-point between Shalimar and Tobacco Vanille.

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 20:52

Sorry Judy - I'm in first thing. Not expecting to actually be treated. At this surgery they string it out so it's usually only on the third visit they actual start to fix the problem. Guessing there are some very perverse incentives in NHS Dentistry.Sad

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 20:55

Sorry Pest - yes, Blue C tomorrow.

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 20:59

Pest Tea for Two is a bit gourmand sweet spice for me but I will look for Copal Azur. Which Tauer would you recommend? Incense Extreme is lovely but too fleeting on my skin and a bit soapy.

mrsreynolds · 01/11/2017 21:15

Bedtime...all depends how I'm feeling

Tonight it's twilight by lush

I've also worn Dior addict, avon soft musk, avon nightmusk and next cashmere to bed
