Everyone is welcome.

That's so funny trained, and so odd isn't it how things smell so different between people! The last words I would use to describe FdeA are soft or gentle, but I absolutely love Chergui and Ambre Sultan. Horses for courses, innit Wink

POAL is a great idea for a bedtime scent, a lovely soft rose on me. Rose 31; is that Le Labo? Have never tried any but it sounds good.

If you like FdeA you may well like Lonestar Memories from Tauer - it's the manageable version of Aiguilles for me!

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 21:24

I like the idea of Neal's Yard frankincense as a perfume. Had their frankincense face cream and it smelt wonderful.

Thanks kittens I will check it out. Yes, it's amazing how subjective it all is. I find most of the Lutens line suffocating, but hands up, I can't do sweet or rich scents.

Have you ever tried Pd'E Wazamba? It is often compared to FeA. I think they're very different but would be interesting to hear what you think (as someone who is not fond of the latter).

Rose 31 is Le Labo. Initially I found it a bit meh (a workaday woody floral) but when I finished the sample I couldn't get it out of my head.

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 21:41

MrsM me too, used the cream for years. If you like that you'll love the frag. It's sparkly but soft and warm like ginger ale.

MrsPestilence · 01/11/2017 21:41

Neal's Yard Rose Beauty Balm has a wonderful smell. DH often goes to bed smelling of this.

Scent Gourmand has collected a list of where to score samples that is even longer than ours.

I want to try Incense Extreme now...I LOVE soapy smells.

Londinium (Molton Brown) is a good smoky whisky with myrrh and incense and moss.

MrsPestilence · 01/11/2017 22:03

With quantity of love shown for Avignon, I now want to try all CdG Series 3. I blame Kittens and several others Wink

Next week will be incense week. until I get distracted

mrsm I will be thinking of you. I have a class through until 1.15 so hopefully they will take my mind off things - although will need to finish them a wee bit sharp so I can eat something before I go in case I faint.

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 22:14

MrsM oh don't listen to me, it is probably only a tiny bit soapy. I was expecting an incense bomb and on me it mostly vanished immediately except for a trace of soap.

Pest I love that stuff. It's so clean and green. If you're a fan of rose, the rose oil they do (is it a facial oil maybe?) is very intense.

trainedopossum · 01/11/2017 22:18

Grrr, Avignon is one of my faves! The others in that series didn't make much of an impression, they were all pretty but a bit too light for me.

MrsMacNally · 01/11/2017 23:57

Just to put in a quiet word for Villa Ocre - mellow (if ever so slightly masculine) incense £12.99 at TK Maxx.

explodingkittens · 02/11/2017 06:53

SOTD is L'air de rien. Gorgeous patchouli/amber skank. Need it today as am feeling ropey and just received an email asking me to cover an entire day of teaching for a poorly colleague. Am completely unprepared and don't know the material. Happy days.

MrsPestilence · 02/11/2017 08:34

SotD is Blue C. Gorgeous patchouli / amber / leather / tobacco skank. (I think) I smell like a cowboy's elbow crook.

SOTD is Rome 1963. When I first got this sample a year ago, I didn't like it that much - it was in the 'meh' pile. This year, I absolutely love it and got a 9ml bottle. Will be getting another larger bottle too at this rate. It's funny how my taste in perfume has changed since sampling many different ones.

Good luck covering, kittens!

BluebellGal · 02/11/2017 10:18

Good luck to everyone having teeth done and facing a daunting day at work (myself included!). I’m a bit stressed but doing ok!

Pest your nose is absolutely amazing!! You’ve already got 3 of the 4 notes for Bluebell C. You got the leather, amber and patch but you are missing one key note. Can you guess what it is?

BluebellGal · 02/11/2017 10:22

Bluebell C actually has suede listed not leather but close enough!

MrsMacNally · 02/11/2017 10:27

I'm only 10 mins into Blue C. So far, lots of leather, and perhaps aldehydes. This also brings ELd'O's SM to mind - no idea why, perhaps a similar iris?. (Made me have a look at Antoine Lie other out-put - wow! Didn't know what else he was responsible for, including yesterday's Hyperbole. Small world Smile).

I'm now getting cistus/labdanum. Rash at this very early stage but feel the need to rule our ELd'O's Rien? (Too much of rien already this morning Grin). Have also taken a lateral look at HP's Marquis de Sade - but ruled that out as I didn't get any citrus.

15mins in and it's already settling into a gentler suede and resins sort of thing - very nice. The labdanum makes me think Tauer but I don't think that's right. I'm not getting much else right now but am guessing there might be a powdery turn coming?

BluebellGal · 02/11/2017 10:33

Well done mrsmac you got the suede! Haha do you think all my perfumes have a powdery turn? That sounds about right! But not in this case!

Oh my word it’s reminds you of secretions magnifiques?! I can’t stand that one but love this one. It is niche but not eldo or Tauer

MrsMacNally · 02/11/2017 10:46

Blue - don't worry, it's fleeting, only in the first couple of minutes. And no, it's leather/suede fragrances I'm pigeon-holing as often having a powdery dry-down, not you!

In reading round this I've discovered 'amber' is typically a vanilla/labdanum combo. Never knew that but it makes lots of sense!

MrsMacNally · 02/11/2017 10:50

Is the missing note saffron?

OCSockOrphanage · 02/11/2017 11:35

Sahara Noir PP dupe, in honour of autumnal incense love.

MrsMacNally · 02/11/2017 12:38

Ahh OC, Sahara Noir, the ultimate incense for me (absolutely no screech and lots of dry earthy heat).

MrsPestilence · 02/11/2017 13:00

I think it might be saffron, there is a little bit of flower that is not very flowery.
