Question: if you are over 35, would you wear a bikini like this?

Dh has given me this itsy bitsy bikini. and expects me to wear it in public (when we go on holiday). I am wondering whether I can pluck up the courage.

Dh seems to have overlooked the fact that I am not a tanned 21-year-old Australian model with a Brazilian wax: I am actually a pale-skinned 36-year old and only 5ft 2, with a Caesarean scar. Size 8/10 but nevertheless have a few wobbly bits.

I am very flattered that dh thinks I look good in it, but it is ridiculously skimpy.

So, what would you do? Should I just get into the holiday spirit, wear it and flaunt it, or will I look ridiculous?

(Dds are 2 and 4 so I won't exactly be lounging by the pool on this holiday; I'll be chasing round after them.)

No, it's not less slutty. Sorry.

Idreamofdaleks · 14/04/2007 13:08

I think you will look frankly bizarre in this chasing after your kids

I anticipate that you are likely to get a lot of lechy stares from men and disapproving ones from women

however if you are holidaying in Brazil it will probably look relatively tame so no worries there...

its so true that one cannot buy class

Judy1234 · 14/04/2007 16:07

No one commented on my comment about nudist beaches. Do people have problems with then naked human body? I only do if the men or women are fat but when they look as good as the girls on that site I think it's wonderful.

Idreamofdaleks · 14/04/2007 16:17

Xenia - so you have problems with fat naked bodies but endorse soft porn minikinis being paraded around in front of kids - nice attitude

nogoes · 14/04/2007 16:39

I have just had another look, do you know it actually makes me want to puke it is so revealing. Don't wear it even the model looks ridiculous! It is very porn style isn't it? I think less heads would turn if you walked down the beach starkers.

Judy1234 · 14/04/2007 16:41

"Xenia - so you have problems with fat naked bodies but endorse soft porn minikinis being paraded around in front of kids - nice attitude"

Yes, that's a good summary. The UK has a huge obesity problem. I'm much more concerned about that and secondly children seeing well toned bodies or even just people with nothing on doesn't bother me at all and is very healthy.

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 16:57

Actually, it's just a horrid, cheap bikini. For that reason I wouldn't wear it.OP should show her DH the Boden catalogue

Judy1234 · 14/04/2007 17:07

But Boden equals sexless, surely and why shouldn't she please her husband?

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 17:18

Just checked, my DH would be pleased if I wore a Boden bikini. He'd also be pleased if I ironed his shirts. I'm just not that bothered about pleasing my DH.

brimfull · 14/04/2007 17:21

god I'd look FAB in that bikini!

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2007 17:25

Going naked on a nudist beach is different to flaunting your nips and fanjo in one of these bikinis.

The message you are sending out in each of those scenarios is entirely different.

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 17:35

I've never got nudist beaches. With my norks any support would be better than none.

No No No No No!!

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2007 18:01

They aren't my thing either chocolate face -but the people there don't go naked to be sexually provocative I don't think. In complete contrast to the women choosing those bikinis - they are bought and worn with one thing in mind, no?

moondog · 14/04/2007 18:04

Quite GDG.
And you can bet your bottom dollar (no pun intended) that there is a creepy bloke with an overgroomed goatee behind that reader's wife type posing.

N probs at all with nudism.
BIL went to the beach in France without realising it was nudist.Fell asleep and woke up with large angry woman looming over him, ordering him to get his kit off immediately.

He did.

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2007 18:09

And my children are perfectly used to seeing me starkers in the shower but I wouldn't really want them looking at this kind of image - on screen or on the beach (although at their age they won't bat an eyelid - if they were 12 year old boys I'd be a bit more worried about it).

There is a big difference.

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 18:16

I'm now getting paranoid about bikinis.I happily wore one before having C's. I was never trying to be provocotive. But then Xenia says the Boden ones are sexless.

moondog · 14/04/2007 18:17

Choccy, good rule of thumb is to read everything Xenia writes with a kindly smile.

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 18:18

Anyway, is the bikini really that bad, or is it the pose? If the model was for example Kate Moss and she had her legs crossed and was drinking a cup of tea, you'd view the bikini differently.

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2007 18:18

No bikinis are fine - but these ones hardly leave anything to the imagination do they?! They are barely there and half of them are see throuh. There's a big difference between

this

and

this

isn't there?!

Londonmamma · 14/04/2007 18:28

I am so freaked out by that see-through white bikini bottom and the hairless fanjo..
I was just wondering what a Boden bikini was like and you made it happen. It's sweet rather than sexy, i.m.o.

nogoes · 14/04/2007 18:29

God, I must be sooo middle aged and boring because I really love that Boden one.

chocolateface · 14/04/2007 18:29

Yes, I'd have to get a Brazilian to wear the first one.
