Bluebell vindicated Smile.

That Caron link is making me want to sniff some L'Anarchiste. Like a minty Yatagan according to a reviewer. (What are you like with masculines Floof?).

GreenPolishToGo · 28/10/2017 23:21

Umm, is this the moment to confess I have L'Atelier Bois des Grasse Fleur d'Oranger Baie Rose (also a very cheap and reckless blind buy from TK Maxx) and I have been using it as a room spray for some months now. Blush

Only the other day DH was saying how much he liked it and could we get some more. It didn't quite hit the spot for me as a perfume but it is a lovely room spray. Alas, there's no sign of it in TK Maxx at the moment.

However when I was hunting fruitlessly in my nearest TK Maxx (a small one) today, I came across this in Orange Blossom and in Verbena for £3.99 each. They really are room sprays and very nice ones.

Floofy so lovely to hear from you. Please carry on getting better. Flowers We miss your very, very funny, good-tempered posts. Congratulations to your DH on the job offer.

If we can persuade Pest to mess up her nice, tidy Venn diagram by adding even more categories, I have adult-onset asthma too. So does DD (diagnosed just before her A Levels). In our cases I do suspect air pollution (which is pretty bad around here) plays a major part. We did notice when we were staying on the coast in Cornwall for a fortnight this summer that neither of us needed to touch an inhaler.

Fingers crossed the vintages aren't a trigger MrsMac - you get so much enjoyment from them and you'd have to seek far and wide to find many people who can rival your knowledge of them.

Bluebell we obviously pick the same type of DH as well as scent!

I have been having an incense-fest too because SOTD is Tauer's Incense Rose from the Les Senteurs samples and it is wonderful. More High Mass than roses but very huff-able. If anyone can compare it to Avignon do let me know your thoughts please. Oh, and if anyone can point me at a decant seller I would be so grateful.

Pollution is bad here too Green - it's scary isn't it? Sorry to hear both you and DD are affected. (And you're very kind but I am more enthusiastic than knowledgeable Smile).

I finally got it together last weekend to make a dent in the pile of things ear-marked for flogging on ebay to fund my habit and have sold some outgrown kids fancy dress costumes. (Timing is all!).

To celebrate I've nabbed 5ml of Hyperbole (Courreges). The best named perfume in history. I expect it to disappoint Grin.

CountFosco · 29/10/2017 09:00

SotD Sunshine and Pancakes. Didn't get any lemon, just a subtle orange and then straight to the sandalwood, vanilla and honey. Yum.

Yesterday my Paris 1948 arrived. I had a squirt before bed and it stopped me in my tracks. I've said above Lovely reminds me of my grandmother. My other grandmother died when I was 9 but Paris 1948 reminds me of her, I was too young to even think of it as a perfume, it was just the smell of her. Very nostalgic.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/10/2017 09:41

I think I like the sound of Pest B very much!
After scrubbing the AC Camellia off I went for PP Opium (plus ça change) So very comforting. It will (who am I kidding) HAS become my go to comfort scent when I'm tired or stressed. Maybe I need another box in my categories for "comfort scents that don't demand of the wearer". In there at the moment would go Opium, Infusions d'Iris and Dune for sure.
I cleared my desk to make room for my new printer and uncovered a sample of that new L'Occitane of which I received a gift set free with my last order. As predicted dd liked both this and the Camellia (she is 14) so I know now who can have the gift set at Christmas in their stocking.
I read something like that breakdown of perfume costs a few years ago- but if you ever mention things like that on threads where people "only wear Chanel" or JM you are roundly rebuked.
I forgot yesterday- someone mentioned I Scent You A Day. She is fast becoming my favourite blogger as she seems like one of us, always replies to comments you make on her blog ( I discussed Avon with her last week) and doesn't just talk about stuff many of us would never be able to get a hold of. Obviously Barbara H is still my bible blog, but I like ISYAd, Scented Hound, Now Smell This.

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 09:59

An extra hour in bed? Try telling my toddler that!

Piam it was me who recommended ISYAD - she could be one of us!

Pest yes! Knew there was Violets in the Caron. Well done mrsm for guessing Pest B correctly, you have a very good nose! My asthma has got better recently and don’t use my inhaler so much. When I go on holiday I can always breathe better so think it is pollution

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 10:16

MrsMac thanks for the extras in the package, very impressed by Girl CdG might buy this

I’m onto MrsMac A. It’s powdery and feels very vintage, possibly unisex. It’s soapy and I think I can smell musk, rose, lavender, perhaps aldehydes?

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 10:17

Also there might be some oakmoss or similar as it smells quite manly

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 10:22

Perhaps also some ylang ylang? It’s developing quite nicely! I’m probably miles off!

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 10:47

Sample MrsMc A has mellowed into a soft soapy scent now and I can smell Violets again. I might be imagining it though!

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 10:49

Actually think it’s Iris not Violets. Sorry for spamming the thread!

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 29/10/2017 11:19

Grin at your perfume stream of consciousness bluebell! I do admire you all, my nose definitely needs training. I did laugh at cheap’s idea of sleuthing precious posts for clues, well we did discuss Agatha Christie! I’m loving the discussions, so interesting to see people picking things out so well.

MrsMac I love a good manly scent. I find I have to be careful with having a partially shaved head though, some manly or even unisex type scents can make me a little..errr...manly Grin (here, see also Dr Martens and checked shirts). Who was the MNer who was outraged to be called “chief”? Does anyone remember that?!)

Green I admire your use of room spray and raise you with the idea of an electric oil diffuser (stream of scented air type thing) containing Atelier colognes. Profligate but gorgeous (I like that as a slogan, I think this should also be on our Venn Diagram as a description for all of us! Wink)

I love ISYAD too, especially as she recommended both Hypnotic Poison and Karma for Halloween recently (in my top hundred ten).

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/10/2017 11:51

Electric oil diffuser...do you know I have one of those somewhere. A Tisserand from donkeys years ago.
SoTD was Onagre by Weleda( from the PS box I got while in the UK) It promised much, citrus sandalwood and something else, cardamom I think and I wanted to love it as Weleda is a company which was based near my hometown and has sound ethics (their rose and iris skincare ranges are fabulous) and yeah, it was nice. It had also completely disappeared in the time it took me to iron for 30 minutes.
Another delve into the sample box and am now in Vengeance Extreme which ain't going to disappear this side of Christmas. After my first whelp of "euuuurgh what have I got on this abominable mix of Amarige+ PM" it's quitening down slightly but I can't see it touching my wrists again. Off to find the notes.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/10/2017 12:05

Been to scrub it off! With quite strong bluebell soap. Just a hint of Amarige scented ashtray left! Grin

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 29/10/2017 12:07

I also have asthma though there is a lot of debate between my medical teams about whether it was something ive had since childhood and it was missed or if it was adult onset

alas, i am away from home this week so no access to all my perfumes! i brought SJP Stash and some fragonard minis but THAT IS ALL I HAVE

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 12:09

Piam I’m not overly impressed with Juliette has a gun perfumes either- have had two discovery boxes. Haven’t hated any and some quite nice but don’t understand what the fuss is about really

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/10/2017 12:40

I've also not been blown away by JHAG - some OK ones but none that I've loved.

SOTD is Shazam - the first blast always reminds me of fizzy cola bottles for some reason!

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 12:54

Bluebell - you are doing brilliantly. It's not vintage but I agree, it smells like it could be.

Hope Pest can join us today - you're doing so well I don't want to say any more for now Smile

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 13:36

Bluebell - you should be able to find a new bottle 100ml of Girl for £12.99 or so on ebay. Given its pedigree it's a contender for the bargain buy of 2017 for anyone who likes a woody/interesting surface textures CdG vibe and more violets Smile. I'm considering if I need to stock up whilst it's still cheap.

explodingkittens · 29/10/2017 14:07

boldly, I always get cola bottles from Shazam! too.

Have enjoyed catching up on all the chat, and the blind testing! Back from hols now but sadly have still not managed to shake off this ridiculous head cold, still have sinus pain and am still coughing like I have a 40-woodbines-a-day habit, so feeling rather sorry for myself tbh. Nice to be home though, back to my little collection of samples Wink. SOTD is Dune, which I'm liking more with each wearing.

MrsPestilence · 29/10/2017 16:57

Checking in, Blue you can't be imagining the violets, this is like an explosion in a parma violet factory.

Day trip today for our anniversary, I managed to get Aliened. All scrubbed now and sprayed with MrsM A.

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 17:05
Grin
MrsPestilence · 29/10/2017 17:09

Soap and powder, iris.
A little touch of vanilla
A little bit of sweet and earthy? a familiar but dunno smell
More violet.
Jasmine, but just a little?

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 17:18

Only three listed notes. (There is some speculation around a fourth and fifth). Bluebell struck early getting 2/3 in her first post - bravo!

Violet not one of these but I'm 100% with you on this .

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 17:21

Well done Pest - jasmine was the missing listed note (along with rose and musk). (Although I don't get the jasmine at all).
