Boldly I have been reading up on Avignon (all because of you) am going to have to get a sample now.

PiaM you could do it. I have been in practise by randomly grabbing samples out the pot with out my glasses.

Blue & MrsM unlikely you have smelt this before, thought it does remind me of something I can't recall. Concentrate on the notes and whether you like it.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 28/10/2017 15:24

Pest, I hope you like it. It's an interesting scent - I love strong perfumes and this one is quite strong too but it doesn't seem to offend other people's noses.

I wonder if people just assume I've been to Mass and sat a bit too close when they've been wafting the incense! Grin It is a very 'churchy' smell.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 18:56

MrsM it arrived, parcels come separately to post.

Oud poachers well I never.

Judydreamsofhorses · 28/10/2017 19:06

SOTD is L’Air de Rien. Perfect for watching Strictly with the cat purring on my knee.

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 19:43

Phew!

Back to Pest B - so the herbal orangey fizzy opening had me thinking of Aqua Manda at the 5 minute mark, but maybe there's lemon or grapefruit there too? Can't pin down the aromatics but wondering about juniper and lavender perhaps even spearmint? And there's some heat so wondering about ginger or pepper. But its vaguely woody too (sandalwood and cedar???)...but does seem to tail off relatively fast like a cologne? And on fabric the heart smells a bit like a faint version of The Breath of God, but not on my skin.

Really no idea...just embarrassing myself here Pest a clue please?

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 19:53

Yes to lemon and grapefruit, the fizzyness comes from an alcohol element. Sandalwood and cedar, well done. There are a couple of flowers in there. Aromatics include ambergris, nagarmotha, immortelle and elemi. It is a cologne.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 20:01

Black Velvet Cafe and it's oud worked well for making cider. We spent an enjoyable afternoon watching a glider failing to catch the uplift from the escarpment (the red kites do it so much better) am wondering where he had to land.

MrsM your nose is in good form, don't be embarrassed.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 20:02

Ignore that apostrophe Blush

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 28/10/2017 20:09

I'm trying to cheat and search mumsnet for a few things to see if I can find Pest B in an earlier thread. It's not working Grin

SotD has been lovely Dark Heart of Old Havana and lovely shampoo/conditioner/spray/whatever it is that my hairdresser uses and smells lovely!

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 20:16

Oooh Cheap, I am sure I have mentioned this one before. Wink may be threads ago though.

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 20:19

Good work Cheap!

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 20:23

Talking of hair stuff, I used the last of the Aveda Sap Moss yesterday. May have to lay down and cry at the end of an era. A tube of conditioner goes for £100 on e-bay.

BluebellGal · 28/10/2017 20:54

Pest B has disappeared now but yes a big citrus cologne type opening (I thought maybe a Aqua di Parma flanker) followed by sandalwood and floral heart (not sure which flowers. Also a bit of Tonka bean maybe - but reading Pests description now I think that might be the ambergris. It was really rather lovely while it lasted but quite soft.

I have absolutely no idea what it is! But am quite impressed but how much I got. I’m better at this than I thought I would be! Still not great, but thought I would fail miserably.

I’m going to guess Atelier Cologne

BluebellGal · 28/10/2017 20:56

^ I would classify Pest B as a Floriental cologne (if there is such a thing!)

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 20:59

It is classified as an Oriental Floral (but it is quite woody) one last clue 'Fat wood' from Grasse.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 21:00

OK one more. Did you get the rum?

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 21:36

No! So is it one of the L'Atelier Bois de Grasse?

Or a Fragonard or Gallimard?

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 21:38

Ambre Pamplemousse Rose looks a good match!

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 21:38

One of these a demonstration of a good perfume company who did not know the right people to get a tan-tan-ta-rah launch and publicity.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 21:39

Spot on Mrs M

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 21:51

It's lovely Pest - and I don't like ambergris Smile. Thank you.

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 21:53

Aveda Sap Moss - that what marvellous stuff - what happened to it? Is it classified as an irritant or something?

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 21:57

The question is: “What does it really cost to make a $100 bottle of designer perfume?”
The breakdown of the costs for a $100 bottle of designer perfume, according to the dailyfinance.com website, are as follows:
Bottle $6
Packaging $4
Marketing $8
Sales Commission $6
Licensing Fee $4
Manufacturers Overhead $15
Manufacturers Profit $15
Retailer’s Margin $40
Perfume $2

I want to try the Iris and the rose and the orange blossom. This was a reckless blind buy for £8.99 at TKMaxx. I was very impressed at the quality. If these were EdP and marketed well they would be £100 more.

Oud lasts really well doesn't it.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 22:00

Apparently sap moss is endangered and an irritant, Aveda got bought out, they discontinued it. Sad I bought a salon size bottle just before it vanished.

I've looked like a poodle ever since.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 22:07

Pest A DID have violets in!
