Blue I don't think it smells of lilac at all. Violets is far more like it.

SotD was Miller Harris, Noix de Tubereuse. It is on my wish list, which is going to get longer and longer Grin

MrsMacNally · 27/10/2017 19:23

Thank you Pest. Smile

And sorry to others on the thread if we're cluttering the place up, but this game comes very highly recommended! It's like a reverse treasure hunt for scent obsessives. A group of three does seem to work very well if anyone out there fancies kicking off tranche two.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 27/10/2017 19:49

No apologies, it's been great fun catching up today and reading through. I'm very impressed by your noses!!

Hope all has gone well for MrJudy

SotD was ET White Diamonds. Great on a cold crisp sunny day.

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/10/2017 20:28

Also loving the blind testing. SOTD is JM Wood Sage. Bit headachey, so needed something light.

Thanks for all the good interview wishes. It went well, but apparently a fecking fortnight until we will hear. I may die of stress before then. Poor DP is exhausted, so he’s had a bit of a nap and we’ve had pizza delivery. I am disgustingly full up, my stomach is actually sticking out like in a cartoon.

CountFosco · 27/10/2017 20:36

Count glad you are enjoying the Ginger Splash. Can you detect the rhubarb in it?

Only very faintly, a more jammy rhubarb than the l'Occitane which was like fresh cut rhubarb (that's probably the grapefruit).

DH is dispairing of me, I'm going to make him try Invisible Ben tomorrow Smile. Haven't decided what I'm going to try yet, tempted by Rosa Ribes.

GreenPolishToGo · 27/10/2017 22:52

Another finding the blind testing fascinating. I'm sure I wouldn't be doing even half so well as you lot.

Judy it's good to hear the interview went well. I hope the fortnight passes quickly and it's good news for both of you.

MrsMac I hope you're all recovered now. Breathing problems are so scary.

SOTD is L'Air du Désert Marocain from my Les Senteurs samples. It is so addictively woody and spicy. DH, the philistine, said it was "alright but I like some of your others better." At least it wasn't a Fathom V style recoil!

Does anyone have a good source of leak-proof 5ml empty vials that aren't Travalos or Travalo types please? I think Travalos are great but they don't seem to be compatible with vintage atomisers.

Green - how about just using a little perfume funnel to spray directly into bottles. Pest has converted me to this - surprisingly little waste. (On bottles, Flying Tiger did some great 4ml ones this summer - not sure if there is a way of getting hold of some?).

Thanks - Dr says adult-onset asthma is most likely. (Hope all the huffing stuff from dubious vintage bottles is not implicated...).

GreenPolishToGo · 28/10/2017 08:02

Half price Scent of the Week at 4160 Tuesdays is New York '55 - a gorgeously frivolous candyfloss confection. It smells pink, but not in a minger fashion.

That's a good tip MrsMac I shall keep an eye out for sturdy little bottles. It's also a good excuse to mooch round Flying Tiger, which always has lovely stocking fillers.

I think stress is a likelier culprit than vintage fumes, especially as your job has been pretty intense lately. Look after yourself Flowers

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 09:48

Thanks on all counts Green.

Pest & Blue - fingers crossed the postie brings you your packages....MrsM A is little obscure - perhaps concentrate on the notes (and whether you like it Grin) rather than guessing what it is?

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 10:14

SotD is Black Velvet Cafe, top 10 seconds are a bit 'should I really have used flash to cleaner the espresso maker'.

Still convinced that there is a smidgen of clove in Noix de Tubereuse.

MrsM do be wary of vintage stuff. I had a unidentified allergy, a few perfumes and an unknown cleaning fluid. The symptoms were totally asthma like, so was the treatment. Go outside and take a spoon of asthma medicine. Then suddenly about fifteen years ago, it vanished (guess the culprit got banned). Whatever it was, it was in Giorgio Beverly Hills and some other stuff. I used to avoid Harrods as they had free range perfume sprayers to the extreme. Was Thursday a one off or has it been happening often? Look after yourself.

BluebellGal · 28/10/2017 11:21

Grin Green your DH sounds like my DH. His perfume vocal is extremely limited and it annoys me when he does not like the masterpieces. Phillistine indeed!

Judy glad to hear it went went. Good luck - hope you can get through the two week wait and have a successful outcome

MrsM your package just arrived- thank you!! I too had adult onset asthma. Pollution has got much worse in recent years due to diesel cars, so I think it’s getting more common.

countfosco they sound like perfect autumnal scents. I find it really strange that I can’t actually smell rhubarb yet when I smell a rhubarb perfume I’m like yeah! That’s rhubarb. I’m sure it’s the taste I’m smelling iyswim!

BluebellGal · 28/10/2017 11:24

(sorry about typos above - hope you catch my drift)

SOTD is Pest Blind Sample B. It’s just gone on so first thoughts are: citrus/ bergamot, incense, sandalwood. Will report back later once the dry down kicks in

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 11:59

Shock So that"s me off the vintages for a bit, just in case. Bluebell - that's depressing re: pollution. Do you live with it OK?

CountFosco · 28/10/2017 12:04

SotD Rosa Ribes. Smells like it says, a lovely mix of rose and blackcurrent. Reminds me of Dewberry from the Bodyshop! Is it quite linear, it's still smelling the same as it did when I first put it on a few hours ago?

Reminds me a bit of some wine I had about 10-15 years ago that smelt cheesy. I loved it because it was a bit insane and you had to keep going back to remind yourself that actually yes, this wine really did smell like you imagined.

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 28/10/2017 12:19

It’s so interesting reading the mystery perfume thoughts! You guys have such amazing noses, able to distinguish all those notes EnvyI would be saying “errr...a fruity note...floral? It’s nice”’Grin

I think we should add Breathing Difficulties to the Venn Diagram of Perfumistas. MrsMac how are you feeling now? And OneNight have you fully recovered? I’ve had lung issues the last few weeks and never actually realised how terrifying and exhausting asthma/breathing problems etc could be (of course I knew it, but didn’t realise if that makes sense!)

Re little bottles green I just buy teeny spray bottles usually from Amazon. I struggle a bit with dabbers, can’t link but will hopefully attach a pic of cheapy ones which have been fine for me, I just use a little funnel.

Judy everything crossed for your DH. Being flown to another country for interview sounds like it would be an amazing job! Waiting is the worst part isn’t it. DH didn’t get the one he interviewed for, but was actually offered another post which works better for us so it worked out OK. Hopefully!

Sorry not to actually engage in any actual perfume talk, I have lots of lovely samples waiting for me but can’t really sniff at the moment. Extremely frustrating and I think the longest I’ve gone without perfume (apart from avoiding spraying on newly tattooed skin which is OK as there’s a good reason for it Smile). I feel like this is a perfume detox. Or perfume rehab.

Well I think I’ve lowered the tone of the thread enough now Grin I shall go and get the nearest to perfume I can atm which is Original Source shower gel Hmm I would actually like a perfume that smells like the mint one...and I bet you guys know of one too :)

Hope everyone is having a none stressy and fragrant weekend (ps Judy I know what you mean about takeaway tummy, apparently teenagers refer to this as a Food Baby...)

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 28/10/2017 12:21

Oh FFS forgot the pic (knew I would!)

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 12:24

I was underwhelmed by Rosaribes Count, totally agree with you first paragraph. Trying not to think about cheesy wine.

You are going to have to be a detective and see if you can find your trigger MrsM. If it is an allergen the reaction from inhalation to bronchial restriction is generally quite swift. Stress plus pollution reactions are much harder to manage. Don't give up the vintages, just handle with caution. No parcel for me today Sad

Not doing bad on the sample Blue, no clues though until Mrs M is back on form.

Do I like oud? Hmm

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 12:30

Floofy keep getting better, we need your nose. Glad to hear about DHs job. Hope Judy's DH also gets good news.

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 12:47

Oh no Pest - that's a shame Sad, so sorry it's not with you for the weekend, but hopefully will arrive on Monday. (It went 1st class as small parcel rather than letter - I got a bit too enthusiastic with the bubble wrap).

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 12:58

Hey Floof - good to hear from you, but sorry to hear you're having an enforced olfactory 'reset'.

Mint! That's a marmite note too - but I love it Smile. How about Herbs Fresca or Nuit Etoile? And I know I always bring this up but isn't it a surprise mint note that is part of the magic of Angel (more marmite). Is there mint in Mugler's cologne too.

MrsPestilence · 28/10/2017 13:10

EA Green Tea has mint in it and rhubarb. Might be why I struggle to see the love.

Should never have told you about the search by notes function. All Beauty does it as well, just type the notes into the search box. And Roullier White, use search box on fragrance page.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/10/2017 13:14

I am loving the notes talk- you are all very good and much better than me with my (seemingly) minger/need a FB distinction. Grin

SoTD which will be going into the minger box is AC Camellia Intrepide or something. Starts off OK, as a nice fresh tea meets citrus summery thing, but 3 hours in I smell like every teenager on the planet. Looking at the wee card, it's violet that kicks in later, but I certainly don't get sickly sweet from Apres L'Ondee or LHB. Maybe the mix with the others is what tips it into minger teritory.

Not feeling the love for many of the ACs it has to be said!

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 14:08

Had a sniff of Pest B. Took me a while to place it, but think it is very like something from my childhood (mother's mantelpiece), which has been rereleased? (If I'm right, and this is the reformulation, it's better than I thought! It's lovely and I want some Smile).

MrsMacNally · 28/10/2017 14:21

Mandarin and tarragon?

boldlygoingsomewhere · 28/10/2017 14:45

Loving the blind samples- you are all so good at picking out the notes!

My SOTD is Avignon - felt like something quite comforting.
