SotD Japanese Cherry Blossom by BBW. It was a present, not really my kind of thing. Plum and spice with a sweet not very natural cherry scent. I've also got some BBW Honeysuckle which I much prefer, it's a brighter lighter scent.

Getting a delivery of samples tomorrow so will hopefully be wearing something more classy on Friday.

GreenPolishToGo · 25/10/2017 22:44

Ooh, nice Googling Pest. Scent and Subversion is fascinating and eye-opening on how fashions in perfume have reflected women's changing roles in society. It's also a super guide to some marvellous vintage fragrances. My copy lives beside my bed. When did copies start fetching silly money, by the way? I just looked it up on various book sites and was shocked. Mine was under a tenner about a year ago.

Hello and welcome Quack. Perfume Society Discovery Boxes are another lovely way to try assorted samples. And there's a discount code entitling members to free P&P until the end of October.

Happy Birthday PIAM and congratulations on securing your job again. I hope your presents included something wonderful and fragrant.

SOTD was Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights. I bumped into it going for next to nothing the other day and remembered someone raving about it on one of these threads. Well, fellow perfumista whose name has slipped my mind, you were bang on the money. It is gorgeous - spice, wood, patchouli and balsam - and completely not a Pink Minger. Thank you. Smile

Phew, I am shattered. I have spent the day with two small boys. Both very nice, but brimming with energy. I think I shall crawl off to bed with a cat or two...

RRP is £15.95, a book to borrow from the library and then lose!
Or just borrow, read and return.

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 22:56

Perhaps there will be an updated second issue?

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 23:10

I got mine at Christmas for the cover price.

Talking of books, if you like reading about perfume Quack, Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez's Perfumes: the A-Z Guide, really helps with figuring out what's worth trying.

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 23:13

What’s BBW CountFosco? Ah the joy of awaiting a sample delivery!

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 23:13

I think the Turin book will be on my Christmas list

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/10/2017 06:24

I date the beginning of the PM to JPG , Eden and Tresor.
Even though Tresor is the only one of the three to make me run for the carbolic, I think JPG was the trendsetter for the PM.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/10/2017 06:25

Thanks for the good wishes, I started yesterday and am knackered. It's a good knackered though!

MrsPestilence · 26/10/2017 09:03

BBW Bath and Body Works.

MrsMacNally · 26/10/2017 09:11

Bluebell - it was responsible for tipping me over the edge into scent obsession! Really interesting to know what other people regard as the 'greats' and what makes them special. (And then track them down and sniff and see whether you get it).

BluebellGal · 26/10/2017 12:43

Loved JPG it was my signature scent as a teen for a few years. Smelling it now brings back strong memories of A level results day and teen angst.

mrsm perhaps i should avoid Turin’s book then - I don’t want to become more obsessive about trying new stuff- I have lots of samples to use already!!

SOTD is Miller Harris Coeur de Jardin. Boring floral fragrance and it’s almost diaappeared (and I haven’t even eaten lunch yet)

CountFosco · 26/10/2017 17:14

Well, after a horrible telecon with a customer where they keep asking for more but don't seem to realise they have to pay for it I came home to lots of perfume!

Firstly, thankyou so much to MrsP for the MJ ginger splash and the L'O rhubarb and grapefruit. I've already covered up my SoTD CKone (neutral cleanliness for work) with the L'Occitane and enjoying sniffing myself while the top notes settle.

I also got the AC discovery set which has to be put away for a month before I use it as an advent calendar. Beautifully presented though, looking forward to that.

Finally I got a delivery from 4160 with the Fresh Outdoors set (plus a freebie gift of 'The sexiest scent...') although they forgot to put in my 9ml scent of the week Sad so I've had to email them (they responded within 10 minutes - good customer service!).

Now, which to wear to work tomorrow...

MrsPestilence · 26/10/2017 17:30

4160 have excellent customer service, part of being a small company that is sucessful I guess.
Blue's package arrived. So after a bath I have Bluebell 1 on. Opens with a wallop of rose hip and medicine. So probably saffron and a conifer, Grin plus a hard brittle caramel.

MrsPestilence · 26/10/2017 17:56

Bluebell one has now taken on a flowery smell, jasmine, freesia?
Heading towards some spice and amber....
I might just be off on one.

Glad you got it Count two perfumes with rhubarb.

BluebellGal · 26/10/2017 19:03

That all sounds wonderful CountFosco enjoy!!

Pest your blind samples arrived too! I’ve just tried the 4160 Silk lace and chocolate as I wasn’t sure when we were going to officially start. Thanks for sending that, it’s really quite yummy but also has a bit of a dirty skanky note to it.

You’re doing quite well so far on sample A - I’ll let mrsm try before revealing what it is. This is exciting!

MrsPestilence · 26/10/2017 19:45

I thought I was being quite restrained Blue, first thoughts were, one on each wrist and other on ankle.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 26/10/2017 19:52

Evening everyone! No scent of the day for me - didn't seem worth it since today was traipse round animal park with all of the associated strong smells days!

Ooh, I have a sample of Silk Lace and Chocolate too - it was the freebie in the FB Dark Heart package.

Absolutely agree with the 4160s customer service being great. Notice the nice touch of switching from "Thank you for your order to "Thank you for your latest order" on the notes Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/10/2017 20:04

SOTD is Mary Greenwell’s Plum, which I’ve had for ages but rarely wear - I have a stack of the candles so am matching with the house scent.

DP has his second interview tomorrow - please send positive vibes, everyone. He’s actually being flown to another country for it, and the taxi is booked for the airport for 4am. I haven’t yet told him that he will be sleeping in the spare room tonight.

MrsMacNally · 26/10/2017 20:18

Bluebell & Pest - thank you so much - all received safely. And finally my bottles have arrived so can decant and despatch to you tomorrow, hopefully to arrive Sat am.

Am having some mild breathing issues today so can't explore your lovely packages with my usual gusto. Sad.

Have had a gentle sniff of Blue A and it reminds me of the Poison family with its very distinct purply/blue plummy/grapey note; for this same reason it also has me thinking about Caroline Sabas. Expect to be miles off Smile.

MrsMacNally · 26/10/2017 20:36

Keeping everything crossed for Mr Dreamsofhorses, Judy - sounds very promising if he's being flown overseas.

MrsPestilence · 26/10/2017 22:15

Good luck MrDreamsofHorse

Sounds worrying MrsM, here's hoping you learn to breath again soon.

Cheap I would have been tempted to wear something fresh and maybe lavendery to counteract the animal smells.

I shall wear Bluebell 1 tomorrow and see what I think. I am now of the opinion that a new perfume needs wearing two or three times for me to fully appreciate and unravel it. And I still keep being surprised how different things smell on other people.

BluebellGal · 26/10/2017 22:37

Good luck to Judys DP, flying abroad for interview definitely a good sign!

Hope you can breathe fully tomorrow mrsm and get sniffing again soon.

Pest I’ve cracked open Sample A. I think I might know what it is. The main note is unmistakable. I won’t ruin it for mrsm so will keep it under wraps for now. First of all I was thinking it was a cheaper classic that’s been around many years, but I know it’s not that one because it does not have the Lily of the Valley in it. I think it’s a perfume from 2000 in a very distinctive bottle. I thought it could be a popular perfume from 4160 Tuesdays but I can’t smell any citrus so I’ve ruled that one out.

Anyway, whatever it is I really like it and am definitely wearing it to work tomorrow. Thanks Pest Star

BluebellGal · 26/10/2017 22:40

Well done mrsm you are very close with Poison. It’s not poison but it does share a main note in common but it’s not plum.

MrsMacNally · 26/10/2017 22:58

Oh Bluebell - this is out of my comfort zone. So is it a tuberose?

Thank you Pest - had problems on a train earlier. Think it was just the combination of a virus and poor air quality in the carriage - rail staff were lovely.
