Sorry for typos - hopefully you gather gist!

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 16:54

Ahhhh! Get the gist. Getting annoyed with predictive text changing all my words

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2017 18:02

I love Nina Dicci.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 25/10/2017 19:09

Am celebrating my birthday and getting my own job by wearing PP Opium for the third day running.
I think the current fashion for pink minger scents is connected to the rise in sleb culture, in being famous just for being famous, in vacuous vloggers, reality TV, HD eyebrows and Soap and Glory skincare. To name but a few things.
Blush

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 19:17

Well done Piam and happy birthday Cake

I think PMs are fashionable because they are ubiquitous. The yoof have become accustomed to the sugary sweet scents and don’t know what they are missing out on. The LVEB is a more grown up PM so the phenomenon has spread. I actually like sweet scents but they need to have some sort of depth and interest - not just smell like candy.

QuackingHell · 25/10/2017 19:18

Ladies can I join you? I'm on the hunt for a new scent. I've been woefully neglectful on the perfume front since my DS was born 2 years ago. I don't even know where to start. Im lurking on all your SOTD's to get some ideas Blush

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 19:19

Wasn't the Les Belles series the one aimed at a young market (first one released was noted for tart, rather than sweet fruit top notes though)?

Deci Dela came a couple of years before. Recall reading this is one of Sarah Mc's favourites and 4160 certainly do a fabulous line in fruity florals (Babylon Sunset being a great case in point).

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 19:23

Hi Quack - welcome. Sure we'll have ideas, but tell us a bit more about smells/scents you like and don't like, and any other perfumes you wear at the moment?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 25/10/2017 19:23

CakeFlowers Ah Happy Birthday PIAM and congratulations on the job!!! Phew indeed. If things really do go in threes them here's hoping Judy's trip to the dentist was unproblematic today.

Nina Dicci Grin Love it.

The Sleb thing is a no brainer from their pov I guess. Making the money whole they can. I don't suppose any of them ever wear their own. It does seem odd to me that beauty vloggers have their own make up ranges and continue reviewing others. Does that mean their own lines aren't all that good?

SotD is Samsara. Read something on the Guerlain website about spraying your hem so my dress was duly spritzed before going on this morning and it really did the trick. Gentle wafts whenever I walked somewhere. Very very lovely.

(Can I start claiming the intellectual property on scent-as-a-fitness-aid??)

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 19:25

Congratulations on all counts PiaM! Hope you are going to celebrate with a bottle of something nice Grin

QuackingHell · 25/10/2017 19:29

I like a good citrusy scent. And florals.. I mostly know what I don't like haha! I just don't do sickly sweet stuff.. Have only ever had cheap-ish stuff before. I've always liked Chanel scents and tried the new one (Gabrielle) today and quite liked it. But the sales lady drowned me in it and now I'm worried it's a bit too much Confused

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 19:31

mrsm I just assumed because the face of les belles is Julia Roberts it was aimed at a more sophisticated older market? While Chanel has used edgy Kristen Stewart to appeal to the yoof market. I might be wrong though.

Welcome Quacking hell what sorts of scents do you like? I would recommend a sample set to explore and see what you like/ don’t like in the comfort of your own home

Deci Dela is responsible for the rise of the fruity floral then! I think the marker for the start of the PM trend was Anna Sui

MrsPestilence · 25/10/2017 19:32

Posting done Grin

SoTD is Chloe, nearly finished the bottle, about two more sprays left.

Welcome Quack, general advice is beg or buy samples. Only blind buy if you can afford to hate it.

Well done PiaM, you have your job Glitterball

How did it go at the dentist Judy?

MrsPestilence · 25/10/2017 19:37

Quack Lidl Suddenly Madame Glamour smells like coco mademoiselle. For £3.99 it is a bargain and a good place to start.

QuackingHell · 25/10/2017 19:37

Oooo samples is a good idea. Mum is purchasing as a very generous Christmas present so I don't want to get it wrong!

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 19:43

Bluebell - we might be talking about different Belles. Are you thinking of Lancome's La Vie est Belle?

MrsPestilence · 25/10/2017 20:20

Guerlain - Eau Imperiale 100ml for £34.95 at All Beauty. A big fresh puddle of citrus with cedar and tonka bean supporting. One for summer.
If you put the notes you like in the search box, they give you a selection of scents, tis very cool.
So citrus/incense gives a lot of Shalimar etc

Sample places were discussed yesterday about 19:30
Notino also does samples.

I seem to remember 80s perfume adverts were about being a grown up woman and the 90s were about being young and fresh (and androgynous) not a shoulder pad in sight.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2017 20:41

Yes, it’s the Les Belles I’m thinking of. We’re the bottles shaped like walnut whips or is that a different NR one?

PIAM am so pleased about your job.

Dentist was fine, just a chat more than anything, plus a load of x-rays before next week’s RCT. It transpires that the dentist I saw last week is doing a PG to become a root canal specialist, so he can be dragged in if she can’t find any canals (which is why the last one failed because she couldn’t get one). I saw the tooth’s x-rays and even to my untrained eye I could see what she meant about the roots being very straight.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2017 20:43

bluebell I had an Anna Sui one I wore a lot in the late 90s when I was a student, it was purple and not fruity. I think it was the original one before they started being all butterflies and the like.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2017 20:45

www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Anna-Sui/Anna-Sui-2082.html

This was it. The old lady handbag thing must have been in me even then!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 25/10/2017 21:10

Judy, I had that Anna Sui one too. Smile

MrsMac, Scent and Subversion looks great but doesn't seem to be available.

Welcome, Quack and congrats and happy birthday, PIAM.

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 21:32

Oh no Boldly - it's a really great read. You might especially love it given your vintage tastes! Lucky Scent may have copies - no idea of shipping costs though from the US though.

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 21:59

Yes Judy and mrsm it’s the Lancome LVEB I’m thinking of, it’s awfully sweet - praline and sugar. Yep I remember the purple Anna Sui I liked that too and it was the first release, but then they started bringing out cloyingly sweet perfumes in stupidly girly bottles... it went downhill from there!

So pleased things are looking up for many on the thread, teeth getting fixed (I’m wearing my guard thanks to Judy), jobs and interviews on the horizon, lurgy and work stress settling down and holidays for a lucky few!

SOTD is L’artisan Noir Exquis after a long bath. It chocolately and full of warming vanilla (but glad to report it’s classy not cloying!) perfect scent for cosying up on the sofa in my dressing gown Smile

MrsPestilence · 25/10/2017 22:03

Big chunk of the book here.

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 22:06

Quack I would recommend the blogger I Scent you a Day. She has blog post on cheap perfumes, getting hold of samples as well as wonderfully descriptive reviews which are accessible to non-expert wannabe perfumistas like me!
