Perfect emoji!!

I am catless though - not I could deal with being responsible for any more lives at the moment...

SotD is Knowing (damn you eBay...). I understand the love though - one I'll enjoy wearing a lot!

Grin at MrsMac's wonderful emoticon. My eyebrows are well-behaved but I certainly qualify on the crumbly teeth front. As for needy cats, DD's cat, who has several screws loose and was never very bright in the first place, has taken to yowling piteously in the middle of the night (she is used to sharing DD's pillow in colder weather) until someone gets up and bribes her to shut up with extra grub or catnip. I hope it is a phase that she grows out of soon.

Coromandel arrived today. Oh dear, it is beautiful. The top notes didn't grab me particularly but the dry down is a heavenly huff-able mixture of antiquarian bookshop and posh pâtisserie, and the longevity from the merest spritz on each wrist is very promising.Yep, if all our horrid teeth permitting, the proposed bottle split goes ahead and you need a fourth I'm happy to join in.

I have been pondering longevity since trying out Frederic Malle's Noir Epices from the Les Senteurs samples yesterday. It is a lovely, warm spicy thing but it doesn't last on me. Three top-ups in a day is far too much at those prices. I had the same trouble with Malle's Lipstick Rose and Angélique Sous La Pluie (mind you I think everyone has that trouble with Angélique) but other people don't and I wonder why. Even Jo Malones, which bring fresh meaning to the word "evanescence" for practically everyone on this thread, get reviews from devoted adherents who say they last for hours. Oh well, when Noir Epices vanished for the third time I topped up with 4160 Tuesdays Shazam! Also warm and spicy, but far longer-lasting and a sight cheaper - I should have gone for 30mls, not 9mls when it was half price.

Samples first Edith. Too many things which smell lovely in the shop aren't anywhere near as attractive once you get them home. Ask me how I know...

Have a wonderful time Kittens. I'd be tempted not to come home too.

Blind samples posted today MrsM and Pest so should be with you by Friday

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/10/2017 15:41

Buggeration! You know that scent box that I was going to get, then we decided it was a bit suss? Octobers box was 4160! Opening offer gone pfft too.
I'm in eau de flash this week as I'm blitzing the gaff in prep for my dil to be (one day) arriving from overseas. I spritzed my bed with Library of Fragrance Patchouli last night, it was comforting in a skanky way.

explodingkittens · 24/10/2017 17:32

SOTEvening is Cassis en Feuille. Tomato leaf and blackcurrant, very green and invigorating. Pairs very well with an Aperol spritz...

MrsMacNally · 24/10/2017 17:42

Trying to decide if my cat is 'needy'?

Oh was that the one with the website that lit-up everyone's anti virus software?

MrsPestilence · 24/10/2017 17:46

SOTD is the much hated Black Opium. Sorry. My on/off cold is back with a vengeance and I needed something cosy.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/10/2017 19:06

I want to flag up that my cat is generally not needy. I wish she wasn’t so distinctive so I could post a photo, because she’s a total babe.

SwedishEdith · 24/10/2017 19:16

Samples first Edith

Yes, you're right Green. I got Dahlia Noir based on a sniff - disappointed at home. Where does everyone get their samples - ebay? Perfume counters scare me.

MrsMacNally · 24/10/2017 19:28

Thought my cat wasn't needy and then reflected that she might just have me very well trained...?

MrsPestilence · 24/10/2017 19:48

Samples Edith
Bloom
Roullier White
Perfumista

SwedishEdith · 24/10/2017 20:13

Thank you!

MrsMacNally · 24/10/2017 20:21

Ebay good too, especially for bargainous part-used bottles, and for things that have been discontinued or reformulated.

MrsMacNally · 24/10/2017 20:27

That's exciting Bluebell - many thanks Smile

Have noticed a bottle of Montana's Graphite in TK Maxx (I do like cedar and balsam)...but holding out for the Coromandel split (dental treatment go hang). Think four of us are in now...any last takers?

MrsPestilence · 24/10/2017 20:40

Oooh and les Senteurs they have Tauer.

CountFosco · 24/10/2017 21:12

SoTD SJP's Lovely. Reminds me of the perfumes my grandmother wore, it smells very comforting.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 25/10/2017 08:35

SOTD is Geminesse.

I'm also tempted by the PP Opium dupe.

Judy, I also like Black Opium - it does that have cosy quality. I wonder if these sweet scents are all gaining that reputation - an olfactory rememberance of childhood comforts? Is the current trend for sweet perfumes infantilising on some level? Sugar and spice and all things nice...

I'm sure there is an interesting feminist exploration in women's perfume fashions. What vision of womanhood is being sold etc.

MrsMacNally · 25/10/2017 08:42

Boldly - have you seen Barbara Herman's Scent and Subversion?

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 10:07

SOTD ELdO You or Someone Like You
Minty herbaceous and very fresh

Oops I purchased the Liberty AC this morning. My finger just slipped. Naughty me

OCSockOrphanage · 25/10/2017 10:48

Of the Frederic Malles, the Eau Indelible really, really is indelible, just not in a good way (on me). It's a vairy masculine cologne, which would be nice on a Bond type but it lasts well into the next day.

SoTD: Vengeance Extreme. I fancied big roses.

explodingkittens · 25/10/2017 10:59

SOTD is reformulated Y. Meh.

CountFosco · 25/10/2017 13:04

I'm sure there is an interesting feminist exploration in women's perfume fashions. What vision of womanhood is being sold etc.

Absolutely. Was CKone the first perfume to be marked as unisex? There's probably a link there to the rise in women working after children (although they weren't the target market).

The sweet perfumes are probably linked to the return of gendered toys for kids, and the excessive focus on women's appearance.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2017 16:14

SOTD is Chanel 19for a trip to the dentist. Urgh. Plus I have the cold.

boldly I am not generally a fan of sweet scents, but I think vanilla-y smells are really comforting. My mother is not a baker and never has been, so I definitely don’t associate it with that, and as a child I remember actual Opium being “her” perfume.

CK One was all to do with androgeny, wasn’t it? The whole Kate Moss, flat chested, jeans and a vest top thing. Nina Ricci did the first “proper” scent which was marketed specifically as a teen perfume, but I can’t remember the name of it, was it a Belle something one too? I think the current crop of pink mingers are aimed at young women who now have more disposable income - staying with parents longer rather than moving out and paying rent - and there’s now a bit of a swing towards self-gifting perfume when previously it would have been something girls asked for at Christmas or birthdays.

BluebellGal · 25/10/2017 16:52

Judy it was Deci Dela by Nina Dicci is a curvy raspberry pink bottles with gold lettering. I loved that perfume. My mum had a FB and I had a mini from Boots Xmas set
