Allbeauty has SJP Lovely for 30ml/£9.95 or 100ml/£17.95. I know it's much loved on these threads.

Re: Glossier, it is American and associated with the website Into the Gloss. Not to be confused with Mrs Gloss & The Goss. Glossier starting shipping to the UK last week.

SOTD is the PP dupe of Armani Privé Cuir Majesté. It is gorgeous. Has anyone sniffed the original? I'm curious to know how they compare, even if it is purely academic - I'm allergic to Harrods and £550 is a little more than I would usually spend on a FB...

GreenPolishToGo · 18/10/2017 22:08

£550 HaHa ! Crikey! I suppose it does have the advantage of making Agonist Isis, which in the dry down smells to me just like the very best sort of antiquarian bookshop, seem not so outrageously pricy. I was lucky enough to find someone's unwanted present on eBay going cheap-ish. Emphasis on the "ish" - I did tell myself I wasn't to fall in love with anything else from Agonist in a hurry.

MrsMac we could not possibly spare you to hide in a cupboard for five years, and you are not elderly. I am sure bags of enthusiasm ought to count for more than a Chemistry A Level. I have just been reading about the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in Molly Birnbaum's "Season to Taste." She went on a two-week summer course there and it sounds fascinating.

I've never sniffed Coromandel but you are all making me very curious about it. Anything that loved must be special.

PIAM and Judy fingers still crossed for the job application and the problem tooth.

Bluebell anyone getting up at 5am deserves a sniffing spree.

SOTD is Coach The Fragrance. I haven't worn this for a while and immediately after I'd sprayed it I was rather afraid my expanding taste in perfume had outgrown it because the top notes (mostly raspberry) seemed perilously Pink Minger. But then it dried into a lovely rosy musk and I remembered why I liked it. I am such a sucker for rose scents.

Have any of you been sniffin' in Jovoy London, on Conduit Street? I used to wander round the Paris branch quite often when I lived there. This is what they stock:

Aedes de Venustas - Alexander J - Arty Fragrance - Atelier Flou - Beaufort London - Begim - Berry - Berdoues - Chabaud - Coronation Ambre Gris - Dauphine - Eight & Bob - E.Coudray - Evody - Eternal Gentleman - Franck Muller Perfume - Isabey - Jacques Fath - Jeroboam - Jovoy - Fragance du Bois - Grossmith London - Indult - Institut très Bien - Jul et Mad - La Parfumerie Moderne - M.Miccalef - Maison d'Hauteville - Masque Milano - MDCI - Nejma - Neela Vermeire Créations - Olfactive Studio - Parfumeurs du Monde - Profumum Roma - Prudence - Puredistance - Rania J - The Different Company - The House of Oud - Volnay - Welton London - Widian

MrsMacNally · 18/10/2017 23:30

Copal Azur sounds a winner Pest - 3 types of frankincense and made by B Duchaufour. (OK with dabbers).

Thanks Green...that looks very interesting Smile. And, yes, you need to try Coromandel Smile.

MrsS - was just looking at the Joyvoy website at the weekend (fancied the 5 x 5mls). Is it right that their French branches carry Tauer?

explodingkittens · 19/10/2017 06:35

Have joined the 'up at 5am' club as had to get d's to school early as he's off on an exchange and very excited Smile. I, on the other hand, am full of cold and knackered, so have sought solace in Havana to soothe and comfort me with its boozy warm loveliness. Roll on 5pm!

BluebellGal · 19/10/2017 11:04

SOTD Noix de Tubereuse by Miller Harris. Fantastic. Does what it says on the tin but beautifully blended with Tonka and not headache inducing (common problem for me and Tuberose). My favourite perfume from this house and another Perfume Society gem (can’t remember which box it came from).

This time of year is beautiful but also tough going with illness and the nights drawing in. Sympathies for early risers and poorly perfumistas! I’m enjoying snuggling on my sofa with a scented candle and blanket.

BluebellGal · 19/10/2017 11:06

^ in the evening that is! Not right now unfortunately. I’m on my break with a cuppa, back to the grind soon.

MrsPestilence · 19/10/2017 13:24

SoTD is Iris Nazarena Aedes de Venustas. Wood, leather, spices, iris and more spices with a touch of powder. Sod No5 this is what expensive smells like.

Sofa, blanket, sounds good.

BluebellGal · 19/10/2017 13:30

^ sounds amazing Pest

BluebellGal · 19/10/2017 13:51

I have had fun thinking about the perfumes I’m going to send pest and mrsm for the blind testing. Have decided to send 3 that suit the autumn/winter weather. So my Ruth Mastenbroek Amarosa is out - too summery.

I’ve decided on the 3 I’m going to decant (all different genres) so now I just need the postie to hurry up and deliver the sample bottles!

OCSockOrphanage · 19/10/2017 14:47

That sounds delicious and very covetable, Pest. You are making my inner lemming leap!

I started today wearing Elephant, which I like very much, and is probably my favourite of the Zoologists. After a shower (workmen here to fit new wood burner have just left) I am pondering the choices. Having suggested Vetiver Tonka elsewhere this morning, I might give it a whirl; it's one of my long-time comfort scents, it's not a nice day here and it's getting worse by the minute.

Now wondering if DS's DoEdinburgh Gold expedition is going to be called off this weekend because of Storm Bryan. It is not going to be enjoyable if it does go ahead, but apparently they pass as long as they manage two days in really foul weather.

The new wood burner is very very efficient at heating!

Gingernaut · 19/10/2017 15:45

Loved Angel by Mugler, not a big fan of Alien.

Saw Aura in a local department store and gave myself a little squirt.

Am I dreaming?

The first notes put me in mind of Ralgex or Deep Heat.??!??!

Can't say I'm a huge fan. Halloween Blush

explodingkittens · 19/10/2017 17:08

I think someone upthread mentioned Deep Heat and Aura in the same sentence, gingernaut, so your nose may not be deceiving you! I must admit I've never knowingly sniffed any Mugler perfumes but I know Angel is extremely popular.

Have really enjoyed Havana today. Love the rum-and-cigars opening, and it dries down into the cosiest, warming, spicy vanilla. Great for a grey and miserable day!

Off on hols on Saturday morning, not sure what to take with me scent-wise. Hopefully it will be warm... Might give Ealing Green another whirl, but what else??

Gingernaut · 19/10/2017 18:37

Thanks explodingkittens, I was having real trouble believing it.

It's nice when someone validates your perception of reality....Grin

BluebellGal · 19/10/2017 18:56

I agree ginger Aura has a deep heat top note!

MrsMacNally · 19/10/2017 18:58

No clues Bluebell!

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 19/10/2017 19:22

My Dark Heart of Old Havana arrived!! Yay!!! Looking forward to trying tomorrow - smells lovely in bottle.

SOTD was Paris 19?? So peachy it might be best kept for warmer brighter days now... in the end though I got soaked walking to a meeting and spent the rest of the day reeking of drying out clothes. Yuk.

Picked AC calendar up from delivery office today. Now just have to wait until December...

Has anyone heard the new Noel Gallagher song? I may have misheard but I'm sure one of lyrics is something like "She smelt of 1969". Made me think of 4160 Tuesdays again!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/10/2017 19:33

I also had a parcel from 1460 Tuesdays - Rome 1963 in a 9ml sample. I'm loving this so much at the moment that I'll probably end up buying a bigger bottle!

GreenPolishToGo · 19/10/2017 19:53

"She had a look you won't find in a book
And she smell like 1969."

Well spotted, Cheap! Whoever the she is if she smells of 4160 Tuesdays London 1969 she is very fragrant indeed.

I'm delighted The Dark Heart of Old Havana has found so many fellow fans. It's one of my favourites from 4160. Aura, however, really does sound rather peculiar. I must get round to a sniff sometime.

I am so shattered after a day accompanying ankle-biters (and they were very well-behaved ones too). I don't know how teachers do it. I do know they don't get paid enough.

SOTD is 4160's blissful Belle Époque style powdery floral Oriane. I have been catching and enjoying gentle wafts of it all day. This is my absolute favourite 4160 and it's beaten out a lot of stiff competition.

MrsMacNally · 19/10/2017 20:05

Pest & Bluebell

Blind scent testing: think I could do 3 different roses or 3 different orientals, (set will have one cheapy, one mid range and something a bit artier/niche - if you're feeling brave you can guess which is which!).

So let me know if it's roses or orientals....

MrsPestilence · 19/10/2017 20:34

Looks like 4160 are doing an advent calendar, slightly late announcement.

MrsPestilence · 19/10/2017 20:40

No clues Nally
Grin

MrsMacNally · 19/10/2017 20:53

Oooooh - is there a link or description for the 4160 calendar Pest?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 19/10/2017 21:14

A calendar?! Aw man... I've got two now and should probably leave it there.

I did pick up a second parcel at the office, thinking it was a toy train I'd won on eBay. Oh no. It wasn't. It was the houndstooth Miss Dior I won Grin.
