This is the third summer my maxi dress has not seen the light of day. Is it time to give them up?

About two years ago. They aren't flattering unless you are very skinny (I'm not) so possibly time to give it up, yes.

Bluntness100 · 26/08/2017 15:46

I've never worn one. Yet I've got two. They always seem a good idea but just feel a bit over the top in reality. Been on holiday twice this year and didn't see anyone in them.

Bubblysqueak · 26/08/2017 15:48

When dc started walking so about so about 3 years. I found I kept tripping or standing on them going up stairs or steps so gave up when i had to start chasing toddlers. To much faff .

Maudlinmaud · 26/08/2017 15:48

I have billions of maxis and they haven't seen the light of day for a good few years. It might be time to get rid but what if they come back in.

Tbh I haven't seen anyone wearing them, or for sale recently. There was a trend for wearing jazzy looking maxis to wedding's a few years ago but that's over too.

ElspethFlashman · 26/08/2017 15:49

Before kids when I had a flat stomach. Sad Can't see myself wearing one again tbh. They're the most unflattering dresses ever.

HolgerDanske · 26/08/2017 15:50

A couple of years ago when I was slimmer.

I like them when I really want to chill, they put me in a holiday mood and I always feel relaxed when I'm wearing them.

JuneFromBethesda · 26/08/2017 15:50

A few days ago. I'm not very skinny (size 14) but I'm tall, which probably helps, and I'm in proportion. I love my maxis and they do suit me - I have big boobs and long legs, and a true maxi makes the most of my height to balance out the boobiness.

ThreeSangriasFloor · 26/08/2017 15:50

Just last week on holiday. They're very easy for beach holidays, so I packed a couple of jersey ones an a couple of t-shirt style ones to bung on over bikini to go to the beach bar, or for a drink in the evening.

I haven't worn one back in Blighty for about 4 years, though. But thats more to do me with having gained a stone at least and maxis making me look pregnant Grin.

Just a few days ago here too. I am also a size 14, fairly tall and pear shaped. I don't like my legs very much and find maxis very flattering.

pitterpatterrain · 26/08/2017 15:54

Today

May not be flattering but didn't require much thought ...

BeauMirchoff · 26/08/2017 15:55

Today! I'm quite tall and look fab in maxi dresses. Skirts, on the other hand...Hmm

I don't wear them because I'm short and it rains too often here for them to be practical. But when they're in fashion, all the talk is about how flattering and easy to wear they are.
I suspect they'll be round again soon.

Helloyouitsme · 26/08/2017 16:06

I might keep one just in case I go on a holiday abroad and might wear one in the evening.

I have a plain black one that I wear only for work. It's handy when I haven't fake tanned or forgot to shave my legs.
Other patterned or flowery ones went to the charity shop a good 3-5 years ago.

Lucked · 26/08/2017 16:07

I have a black one I wear on holiday, never worn one at home.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 26/08/2017 16:09

I can't wear them as I'm not 8 feet tall. Which according to most maxi dress (and ladies trouser) designers I must be if I'm a size 16-18.

Petite range no good either, as I'm over 4'9".

CantChoose · 26/08/2017 16:10

I wear them loads. I'm also large of boob and moderately tall like some of the PPs. I also wear them as 'lounge wear' when it's very hot.

Parker231 · 26/08/2017 16:10

Am abroad on holiday at the moment - have worn one a couple of times over the last couple of weeks.

danTDM · 26/08/2017 16:11

When I went on holiday to Morocco 2 years ago during Ramadam.
Threw it away immediately after. Horrid things. I am 5 9 and 9 stone to boot!.

Circumlocutor · 26/08/2017 16:12

I much prefer a maxi skirt to a maxi dress. Looks much cooler imo. Maxi dresses are either too clingy or too billowy.

Blackandpurple · 26/08/2017 16:21

Never. They don't do anything to a figure. If you have a bust they make you look pregnant. If not they make you look totally flat chested. They drag on the floor...yuck!

winglesspegasus · 26/08/2017 16:22

all the time, its hot here and they are nice and cool.cotton comfortable casual styles.another tall one here .OH loves them.
you can dress them up or down with the shoes/boots/mocassins/

Maxi dresses mostly a couple of years back when I was fat 16-18. They were the only things that still looked good. One survived until last year with a belt. Eventually I lost too much weight.

Maxi skirts however are still awesome.

I find them incredibly practical. I can bend maneuver without showing my knickers (have a son with SN) and much cooler than anything else
