Clothes shops that disappeared

Was just googling "petite maxi skirt" (seems to be a rarity) and Pilot came up as an option. Remember pilot?! Didn't know it was still going. Which then reminded me of similar store Bay Trading which I used to love as a teen. And etam!

Any others you lot remember?

Oh and if you know any good places to get a petite maxi skirt for a wedding do let me know, I'm really struggling here.

Seems really unfeasible, but swear there was a shop called Coppernob. I had a nice jumper from there. Anyone else remember it?

Anasnake · 21/07/2017 10:35

I loved Snob, Etam, Mark One, Benetton (go in and unfold all the jumpers), had a very risqué dress from Morgan which I could get away with when I was a size 8, Clockhouse at C&A.
Not clothes - but I also loved Athena for posters - had a black and white one of a half naked bloke holding tyres, sigh ! ...

Floisme · 21/07/2017 10:38

I remember Coppernob too Walking They were far more innocent times back then!

woodhill · 21/07/2017 10:41

Yes copperknob, also in Topshop?

Think I had a dress

AnnPerkins · 21/07/2017 10:42

Ha! We used to travel from Hertfordshire to Dickie Dirts for cheap jeans!

And Wembley market for leather jackets.

PuppyMonkey · 21/07/2017 10:44

We had something called Ford's the Family Store in Nottingham. It was a bit shit. Grin

I still miss Mark One. And C&A Clockhouse. Sad

Time40 · 21/07/2017 10:52

I went in C&A in Palma last year. It was so weird - like time-travelling to the 80s. It really hasn't changed at all.

I really miss Sailsbury's. They did mainly bags and scarves.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 21/07/2017 10:58

Blimey, my favourite 'pulling trousers' were from Pilot. Skin tight, black, probably would've gone up like a roman candle if someone within a 15 mile radius so much as thought about a naked flame.

HopeClearwater · 21/07/2017 11:00

There was a short-lived shop in Liverpool near Central station called NOW. Kind of sub-Benetton as I remember. No one else seems to though!

NomDePlumeReloaded · 21/07/2017 11:00

I miss the Miss Selfridge make up range. Was it called 'Kiss & Make Up?' I had a metallic copper lipstick (nice) from there in the early 90's that I thought made me look the bollocks.

MrsJayy · 21/07/2017 11:01

I bought my first grown up handbag from sailsbury for my first job a million years ago

PuppyMonkey · 21/07/2017 11:03

Wasn't there something called Whatever You Want at some point too, v successful for a while there.

PuppyMonkey · 21/07/2017 11:04

And the kids' shop Adams, used to love it.

Laska5772 · 21/07/2017 11:07

Snob Yes! I would go every Saturday and try on things ( occaisionally I had enough to buy something) Also Biba it was so exciting going there ( shows ageSmile)

MrsJayy · 21/07/2017 11:09

There was a shop in the 80s early 90s called whatevery woman wants was the pre primark and i used to die a death if my mum wanted to take me in was fine in another town but not your own. We went to the next town and i met a girl in my class we both pretented we hadn't seen each other Grin

Laska5772 · 21/07/2017 11:09

C&A was great for cheap fashion when I was a teenager.

neveradullmoment99 · 21/07/2017 11:09

I remember C&A. Woolworths for all those annoying little things. The old laura Ashley from many years ago. I also remember but dont miss benetton, racing green - it only sells mens clothes now. Also adams kids clothes.

tessiebear4 · 21/07/2017 11:10

I remember Solo! It was lovely.
Also Penny Plain in Newcastle.

ImNotReallyReal · 21/07/2017 11:14

If you're from Newcastle you'll remember Sergeant Peppers Grin

BestIsWest · 21/07/2017 11:15

Tessie I'm glad someone else remembers Solo, I'd begun to think I'd imagined it.

BestIsWest · 21/07/2017 11:18

Coppernob still exists, it might be only online.

MoonPower · 21/07/2017 11:24

SnugglySnerd · 21/07/2017 11:26

Plausiblesuit I feel like that about HoF in Birmingham. To me it will always be Rackhams.

There was another massive department store in Birmingham called Lewis'. I remember visiting Santa there as a child.

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 21/07/2017 11:26

Primark... but 90's/early 00's Primark.

Littlewoods. I loved it in there as a kid!

Anasnake · 21/07/2017 11:31

There was a lewis' in Blackpool near the tower - had amazing Xmas displays . The Manchester Lewis' is now a mega Primark.
