Was just googling "petite maxi skirt" (seems to be a rarity) and Pilot came up as an option. Remember pilot?! Didn't know it was still going. Which then reminded me of similar store Bay Trading which I used to love as a teen. And etam!

Any others you lot remember?

Oh and if you know any good places to get a petite maxi skirt for a wedding do let me know, I'm really struggling here.

Flip! I was trying to remember the name of that place. Great for vintage Levis, and the bottom floor was lots of hats and badges. I too remember the smell Smile
I too am ancient Cotswold so remember many of the same things (though am post Blacklers and Binns Grin). I'd forgotten how frustrating it was to get up to the right floor in GHL and find you were in the wrong building! There was one place on the 3rd floor by the sports dept where you could cross to the other building.

Really loving this thread. It's making me so nostalgic

XiCi · 28/07/2017 08:40

Do all you Liverpool lot remember Quiggins when it was by the bluecoat chambers? We used to spend hours on a Saturday wandering through all the floors there

Zoflorabore · 28/07/2017 08:59

I remember Quiggins! Incense central :)

Remember going to see a fortune teller there too aswell...

Those were the days

ijustwannadance · 28/07/2017 10:18

Didn't Quiggins move onto the old Barcelona nightclub building on same row as Ceasers Palace? Was opposite the old Rapid row of shop.

CiderwithBuda · 28/07/2017 10:44

@mathanxiety - I remember Shree! Loved it. Was a bit of a hippy in the early 80s and bought quite a few things there. Trying to remember where it was. Liffey Street? I had a lovely long crinkly grey skirt from there and a few tops.

I miss Mirror Mirror. That was my go to shop. I worked in The
Shelbourne Hotel and was on Grafton st most days and would pass the one on Stephen's Green.

Someone upthread mentioned A-Wear. Which started life as Gaywear! A friend of mine worked in the one on Grafton St on Saturdays. Became A-Wear under a guy called Paul Kelly who had been fashion buyer for Cassidys. He is now chief exec of Selfridges. I worked in Cassidys offices for a while and used to try samples on for him. I reckoned ra-ra skirts would never take off! Grin

CotswoldStrife · 28/07/2017 10:53

YY to Quiggins, I was taken round Aunt Wackys once as well. Strange place to take a child!

XiCi · 28/07/2017 11:05

I have to ask cotswold . What was Aunt Wacky?

twostepsister · 28/07/2017 11:11

I bought a lava lamp in Quiggins, great vintage clothing too

Lj8893 · 28/07/2017 11:27

There's a Jane Norman concession in HOF Birmingham!

I loved bay trading and pilot.

Laura Ashley definitely still very much going!

QS, is that now store 21?

Iamtheresurrection · 28/07/2017 18:00

Schuh is massive now and there's a Laura Ashley next door to queen street station in Glasgow.

Skirt in slack centre was the place to get black school skirts that were so tight you spent most of your life sewing the back together!

Marvellousmarg · 28/07/2017 19:10

i am

That's where I got my school pencil skirts from

With split up the back 😂

dressinblack · 29/07/2017 02:10

What about bank?? I loved that shop. When it closed down I went into mourning - slightly dramatic.

I also remember buying a black faux fur cropped gilet with parachute strapping for a back from the c and a closing down sale. And wearing it every single time I had the chance to dress up like a cat.

dressinblack · 29/07/2017 02:11

Also fond memories of my first thong from Tammy girl. I also loved that every item was fashioned with safety pins. Emo's in the making.

Labtest7 · 05/08/2017 13:06

In the north east we had Geordie Jeans. They sold their own brand as well as the well known ones.

reuset · 05/08/2017 16:48

Has anybody mentioned Kookai (I'm only a few pages in!) I used to buy lots from there as a teenager.

myusernamewastaken · 05/08/2017 18:50

I live near Norwich and can remember 'The Sweater Shop' and 'Snob'....and not clothing but who remembers 'Wax Lyrical' and 'Athena' ?

myusernamewastaken · 05/08/2017 18:52

Ohhh and Fosters menswear !!!

WildwestWind · 05/08/2017 23:13

Is the John Lewis store in Reading still called Healas?

KnobZombie7 · 06/08/2017 03:19

I have tons of Bay Trading hangers as well. V good quality!

Not a clothes shop but I loved the Covent Garden General Store before it turned into a crap souvenir emporium (now M and S). Also in Covet Garden was a second hand shop called Flip - it was massive, mainly 50s clothing I seem to remember. Red or Dead as well.

Cable and Co (shoe shop) and Bertie - but I think you can still buy Bertie shoes in dept stores.
Ravel (loved a pair of pointed burgundy ruffled suede pixie boots I bought from there).
K shoes - were in Clarks for a while.

I also remember Famous(?) Army Stores - pretty sure it was called 'Famous', and Madhouse for cheap t-shirts.

Stirling Cooper - was a bit like Jane Norman

KnobZombie7 · 06/08/2017 03:20

Hyper Hyper was just brilliant as was Kensington Market opposite.

KnobZombie7 · 06/08/2017 03:24

Oh yes, and a shop called BOY, though there may still be one on Carnaby Street...

Iwanttobakethree · 07/08/2017 15:44

Thrifty anyone? M&S seconds... my mum loved it bless her.

Greenglassteacup · 07/08/2017 18:01

Loved quiggins in the 80's. Used to eat toast in Lorna's corner, the cafe in there. Used to sit on the floor in a doorway outside on a Sat afternoon looking all crimped & black

Greenglassteacup · 07/08/2017 18:02

I hear Liverpool is nothing like it was back then thesedays

Greenglassteacup · 07/08/2017 18:06

There was a shop called extremes too & a vintage shop called looks familiar on smithdown road. They used to do a 50p day every now and again. Got some amazing stuff there
