Clothes shops that disappeared

Was just googling "petite maxi skirt" (seems to be a rarity) and Pilot came up as an option. Remember pilot?! Didn't know it was still going. Which then reminded me of similar store Bay Trading which I used to love as a teen. And etam!

Any others you lot remember?

Oh and if you know any good places to get a petite maxi skirt for a wedding do let me know, I'm really struggling here.

There's a big Fenwicks in Canterbury, tres posh!

MrsJayy · 21/07/2017 09:29

I went to C &A in the big shopping centre in calais it was very 80s and sad looking

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 21/07/2017 09:29

I loved Chelsea Girl and Snob. Highlight of the year was visiting my relatives in a proper big city and shopping there. And I still have a shirt I bought in Fenwicks in 1985!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/07/2017 09:33

Naf Naf and Kookai

Laura Ashley? Or are they still around?

thenightsky · 21/07/2017 09:37

I'm another one who misses the BHS holiday shop. They had a huge choice of swim suits at half the price of M&S.

There's still a branch of Pilot at an outlet near me.

MrsJayy · 21/07/2017 09:41

We have a Laura Ashley in our town centre it seems to sell wall paper and scarves Hmm

mintich · 21/07/2017 09:43

Morgan and Kookai

mintich · 21/07/2017 09:44

Republic , I loved that shop!

LadyLapsang · 21/07/2017 09:45

Fenwick is still going strong and the Bond St branch has upped its game. Anyone remember Bus Stop?

mintich · 21/07/2017 09:46

Isn't Boux Avenue the new La Senza? It's all the same stuff, spotted my old La Senza "grumpy but gorgeous" pjs in there last week!

MrsJayy · 21/07/2017 09:49

I think him off Dragons den owned La senza then turned it into beaux avenue we don't have 1 here though. We just have Anne summers and it makes me feel a bit grubby to go in there for pants Blush

WotsitWig · 21/07/2017 09:50

I loved Etam. Really miss that shop :(

I was thinking about Mark One only yesterday. I had a long gypsy skirt from there which I tripped on when walking upstairs at work and put my foot through Blush

Missingthesea · 21/07/2017 10:01

I used to get all my everyday jumpers from BHS. I really miss it for that.

I remember Snob! I bought a pretty cream and pink dress with a round-ended embroidered collar from there (well, it was 1972.) The name made my mother "Tut" as she felt it wasn't a very naice name for a shop Grin

And Richard Shops where I got a lovely red dress in 1971. Ah, the nostalgia.

SnugglySnerd · 21/07/2017 10:02

Oh yes Next to Nothing in Birmingham was great. There was a larger one at Perry Barrange One Stop. I got my first interview suit there after uni. Not sure if it's still there.

My very best pair of trousers ever was from Kookai. They fitted perfectly and I wore them until they fell apart.

Does Bennetton still exist?

SnugglySnerd · 21/07/2017 10:03

Sorry my autocorrect is doing weird things.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 21/07/2017 10:04

Snob was the best.
Every time someone liked something of mine enough to ask where it was from, it was from Snob.

And Hyper Hyper on High St Ken.

Holz657 · 21/07/2017 10:05

Try ASOS for the skirt. They usually have a good petite range

FiveShelties · 21/07/2017 10:15

I bought a winter coat from C & A in 1984, it is still going strong. Has been dry cleaned a few times but looks good and is really warm. Bargain!

FiveShelties · 21/07/2017 10:16

Hve just realised how old I am --- sobs, bought a coat in 1984 .....

Pinkkahori · 21/07/2017 10:18

Does anyone remember a 90's clothes shop called Issue? I have fond memories but I never knew if it was a standalone shop or part of a chain.

Leviticus · 21/07/2017 10:24

SnugglySnerd Bankrupt!!!! It was indeed the best jeans shop and such a great concept. Why oh why does it no longer exist?

FlindersKeepers · 21/07/2017 10:27

For Kookai, look at Zalando. Same with Morgan. Both still sell on European Mainland. Etam in France has clothes and undies shops, the undies shops are also elsewhere in Europe.
Kaliko really is gone, Dash still exists (they are part of the Jacques Vert, Windsmoor etc. group).
C&A is indeed Dutch and still quite popular.

PlausibleSuit · 21/07/2017 10:29

NoddysBell haha really? No, she was from London. She had a new coat every decade, whether she needed it or not. Always from C&A.

I vaguely remember buying a denim shirt in a shop called Hennes - don't judge me, it was the 90s - but I'm not sure that ever went away, I think it turned into H&M.

It's not closed, as such, but I do still get irritable when I go back to Manchester and see that Kendals is now just plain old House of Fraser.

FlindersKeepers · 21/07/2017 10:29

Benetton still exists, also sold via Zalando (I love that they let you pay after receipt and find their service really good).

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 21/07/2017 10:33

Jeffery rogers... Jane Norman still exists there is one in derby.
