Was just googling "petite maxi skirt" (seems to be a rarity) and Pilot came up as an option. Remember pilot?! Didn't know it was still going. Which then reminded me of similar store Bay Trading which I used to love as a teen. And etam!

Any others you lot remember?

Oh and if you know any good places to get a petite maxi skirt for a wedding do let me know, I'm really struggling here.

There was a jeans shop in Ilford called Jean Jeanie that was tiny but stocked every size and brand of jeans yiu coukd imagine. The guy who ran it would make you try on loads of pairs and wouldn't sell you anything that wasn't a perfect fit.

Also Daisy (I think) in Ilford High Road. Their bags were much coveted in 5th year seniors.

Liverpool has changed a lot. Especially with L1 being built.
Nightlife seems more trendy bars than big nightclubs now too but it's a different gereration now. Damn those hipsters.

Where abouts was the Liverpool palace?

Used to go to Cream in it's heyday. I remember watching Boy George DJ there once.

Just RTFT & recognise a lot of the places mentioned by people in Liverpool in the 80's Grin I remember Kumars & Dodos & aharveys, the burger & milkshake place with red red seats, long before mac Donald's arrived

Harvey's

AuntyElle · 09/08/2017 15:43

I love this thread. Still pine for Miss Selfridges's old Kiss & Makeup range. Age 12ish, I was desperate for the kiss-print tissue box, but my mum said no Sad

killed it

Oops!

Chelsea Girl was started by the Lewis family. It became River Island and is still owned and run by the same family. So it's changed over the years but not the ownership.

Loving this...

I remember a custard yellow, cotton jumpsuit I had from Tammy Girl back in 1982. Loved it.

Anyone else remember the Gloria Vanderbilt jeans for girls? They were skinny, but stretchy and had a little embroidered swan on the front pocket and coloured stitching down the seams. You could buy co-ordinating t-shirts.

I can remember back when Next was posh. Their stores had gleaming wooden flooring, subtle lighting and you could easily blow £60 on a sweater back in 1989.

I remember Solo - a more upmarket version of Next. Lots of minimal, glossy white shelving and bright lights.

Same with River island when it first opened. Their stores had dark wooden shelving, brass light fittings and rugs. It was a bit like shopping in a Victorian emporium.

I had my first ever Saturday job selling shoes in Saxone. Hated it.

Anyone else remember the craze for Benetton jumpers in the mid-80s? My parents bought me a cherry red, lambswool, batwing jumper from there, with red sparkly edging at the hem and cuffs. I thought it a thing of great beauty....When I was at 6th form college I had a Saturday job in Benetton. I can still fold sweaters perfectly and in about 3 seconds flat Grin

I had a long, sleeveless, cotton, button-through dress from Miss Selfridge, printed in pale pink/green cabbage roses...I loved, loved, loved that dress (worn with heavy brogues) and wore it until it fell apart.

I do know that Press & Bastayan took over Karen Millen about 12 years ago.

Anyone else remember Vickerstaff's stationary shops? They were gorgeous - sold brightly coloured writing paper with matching envelopes. Little glitter pencils and scented erasers. And unusual greeting cards and expensive plush Snoopy toys. It was My Shop Of Dreams when I was 10...

For anyone else who grew up in Nottingham - remember The Reject Shop, in the Victoria Centre? Very early 80s trendy. Sold brightly coloured bean bags, quirky stationary, cool gadgets and miscellany... My friends and I used to spend most of our Saturdays in there.

PickAChew · 13/08/2017 23:12

Newcastle had a Reject Shop. Spent half my student grant in there!

Newcastle is now all phone shops and eateries. And Fenwick. Fenwick definitely still takes up half of Eldon Square, with a Greggs right by just about every exit.

I always used to eye up the coppernob dresses in my mum's Grattan catalogue.
