Thanks kwick and frugal!

I am glad to find good company for my product hoarding.

I didn't mention the foundation / tinted moisturiser hoard which consists of Bobbi Brown x 2, Charlotte Tilbury x 3, Kevin Aucoin, Bare Minerals and probably more. And I am currently coveting the new Nars sticks which are so soft and blend like a dream. I will wait though!!!

Doesn't help things that I joined Beauty Pie a couple of months ago Grin

kwick · 15/09/2017 07:07

frustrated that is a genius idea!!! Challenge: accepted!!!!
I even managed my mum (who is a make do and mend type) that this made economical sense - getting to try out products without buying full size but with enough to gauge if they suit Grin

Aye aye captain I am coveting the Nars sticks as well as the Fenty Beauty contour sticks but have to wait as I have a HUGE stash Sad

So I have 2 empties - 1 from Halloween list:

  • Lush Ultrabland: this is a staple for me as when you get the knack of removing it there is nothing kinder to the skin
  • Yves Rocher almond orange blossom shower gel: they don't make this smell anymore - it is nice and fresh for summer

Hey all! Had a good day yesterday, managed a major declutter and rearrange of my bedroom. Found almost empty tubes of una brennan vitamin c serum and elizabeth arden 8 hour cream so decided to bin as they are both very old and I'm not exactly short of products!

kwick what's the 'knack' for removing Ultrabland please? I've tried it but found it heavy, even though on paper it's perfect for my skin!

Treeballarae · 15/09/2017 13:54

I have an empty from my Halloween list! The Faith in Nature moisturiser. Bought it for my DP who has sensitive skin but I tested it out first and thought it wouldn't suit him as it has quite a strong fragrance. Been using it up on my chest. I also bit the bullet and threw out the Max Factor foundation - it is so old I can't remember when I bought it and it doesn't suit my skin anymore. I also threw out a Bobbi Brown foundation that smelled like wet washing left in the washing machine Blush. So twelve to go.

Channelling Frustrated I've put a lipstick I'd like to use up beside my mirror by the door and have been putting it on whenever I leave the house.

Kwick I'll be interested in how you find the Foreo in the ASOS calendar, as I've been tempted by it (partially) for that. Anyone else used a Foreo brush?

comeagainforbigfudge · 15/09/2017 14:48

Two empties to report.

Easy morning moisturiser from halloween list.

And a boots coconut body wash. Wouldnt buy that again. Not much scent but also never felt refreshed after using it. If that makes any sense.

avoids all beauty advent calendar chat and becomes antisocial in vain attempt to stop myself buying one

woodhill · 15/09/2017 15:38

Finished a Superdrug B moisturiser, not bad. I know it was full of chemicals.

Any recommendations for a good day cream with spf, no nasties

BigStripeyBastard · 15/09/2017 17:25

Welcome, Captainfunderpants. You are in the best place and amongst your people.....😊
Well, I have gone and ordered the Look Fantastic advent calendar so I have had to organise an extra special push to use up as much stuff as I possibly can. I am now running two concurrent lists, one with my 13 For Halloween which contains smaller samples that I have had for sometime and full size items that are close to being finished. I have also begun a second list with things that have more left in them but I would still like out the way before December the 1st.

I have rearranged the bathroom cabinet so it now contains items that will be done for December and I have a smaller tray with my mini samples that will be gone for Halloween.
I have also discovered I have no less than 5 x 30ml samples of Clarins Hydraquench Mask which is way too heavy to use on my face but is actually a very decent body moisturiser. 30mls does most of the body, mixed in with a bit of regular body lotion and I am now silky soft....even my scaly dragon shins!

So we're meant to be de-stashing a bit in here right? Who wants to tell me off for buying yet another matte liquid lip colour and another hand cream. I have enough of both to do me for probably a year or two tbh. Blush My only justification is the lip colour is one I don't have and the hand cream is one I love but ran out of. We shall ignore the three huge ones I got to do me in the meantime. (Can I also argue the new one will be handbag size and pretend my Glossybox this month didn't have a handbag sized hand cream? Blush)

They were on sale though. ShockGrinConfusedBlush

kwick · 16/09/2017 07:10

bunny what I do is rub in to my face and neck a small amount of the Ultrabland then I use a hot damp face flannel to remove.

tree I have a small confession to make... I actually got my first ever Beauty Advent Calendar (Look Fantastic) last year as it contained a Foreo... but I have not used it yet (won't bore you with the reasons/excuses). But I do plan to use when I move back home. I am hoping that it really help with my blackhead situation. I will of course report back Grin

big you are inspirational!

bloo I feel that are completely justified in your purchases I am an enabler

FrustratedFrugal · 16/09/2017 08:55

BlooBagoo I am trying to balance makeup addiction and the need to declutter. It is unrealistic to think that I would never buy another product. But I am trying to keep the balance negative - buying less than I use up. I've been doing this for a few years now and my stash is smaller and old products are gradually being replaced with fresh and intriguing new ones. I am, however, constantly trying to use up some of the oldest products in my stash to keep things fresh.

FrustratedFrugal · 16/09/2017 08:58

BigStripey great organizing, I love your strategy, it makes sense!

Kwick rock on - I love your countdown to Christmas! I might join you in November as I think I have enough samples for 2 DIY beauty advent calendars!

FrustratedFrugal · 16/09/2017 09:03

Treeball fab work, that lippy will be gone soon!

And I should follow my own advice, I have a Max Factor lipstick that has perhaps 10 wears left... but I never remember to wear it.

Comegain and Woodhill great progress!

suchatiredbunny · 16/09/2017 09:30

Thanks kwick I'll give it a go. I popped into Lush yesterday to see what they have for DS, and I picked up a pot of Ultrabland so will see how I get on. The lady I spoke to was lovely and gave me lots of samples for DS to try. He's got teenage spots and has some cream from the Dr (the one I was allergic too and my chin still hasn't recovered) but he's keen to try anything which might help make his face look better. Bless him. DD gets a bit spotty but just covers hers with make up. If anyone has any suggestions for him I'd be grateful.

I'm not liking the LRP Toleraine Cleanser at all, I will stick with my old faithful Avene, so I will pass it on to my SIL. No empties yet, although the kids are very good at leaving theirs in the shower so I have chucked a shampoo and two empty shower gels this week....just not mine! Grin

kwick · 16/09/2017 09:41

frustrated you really are our lippy queen 👑

captainfunderpants · 16/09/2017 09:42

Thanks BigStripeyBastard. Wish my products and cupboards were as organised as yours!

Inspired by this thread, I am going to have a clear out of old make up today. I have a drawer full of stuff that I've had since before DD was born (she's 11), none of which I use any more and most of which is probably mouldy and too grim to use. Might take a pic before it all goes in the bin.

That will just leave me with enough make up to last for probably 15 years without ever buying again Grin

captainfunderpants · 16/09/2017 09:58

This has all gone in the bin. Smile

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 16/09/2017 12:02

Nice work everyone and hi new folk. This thread has helped so much (except for long list of things to try!)
I've been trying really hard but had tough day with DS's chronic disease relapsing so feeling stressed and that's my buying trigger! Went into primark for towels and their new bathroom/ smellies products range is lush. Pomegranate one is total dupe for jo malone so might have bought 3 reed diffusers and perfume set. Argh. Otherwise using up!

DragonNoodleCake · 16/09/2017 21:17

Frugal you've inspired me to sort out my make up drawer and see how many damn lipsticks I have and stop buying more.

I went to Kiko with DD1 today and mostly resisted. 1 liquid eyeliner in a smokey sparkly silver grey... that is all!! As I'm getting older I'm moving more away from black liner and I figured silver grey goes with the blushed nudes I'm mostly wearing just now.

No really emptied anything (except the staples that get replaced) but have been busy and travelling somewhat. I will plan a proper use up this winter.

DragonNoodleCake · 16/09/2017 21:19

Pinkie sending love ❤️- try not to stress and hope DS is more settled soon.

DragonNoodleCake · 16/09/2017 21:20

Captain- I'm going to do a make up cull tomorrow- 3 piles, 1 to keep 2 to bin and 3 for DD2 as she's desperate for play makeup (she's 6!!)

suchatiredbunny · 16/09/2017 21:41

Pinkie I think you'll find your purchases come under 'household' and are thus considered essential household items........

I've used the Ultrabland this evening...blimey it took some getting off, even with a hot flannel!

kwick · 17/09/2017 08:06

Great progress captain!

another hang in there! 😘At least you will have not broken the bank with Primark.

bunny yes it is hard to get off but I feel results are worth it and it is great to travel with as does not leak.

I am dying to get back into my flat so I can reorganise my products into my new bathroom and also sort out my cleaning product stash (I will have less space for that from now on). Alas renovations are delayed (yet again) and I am not likely to be back in until next weekend 😩
