Previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2860739-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard-part-5?

My name is kwick and it has been 7 days and 20 minutes since I last bought a beauty product…. but actually was trying to buy some stuff from The Ordinary yesterday and they were out of stock

eme I have tried quite a few - let me see if I can remember: Bariste (the readily available brand), Rush, Elvive clay one, Aussie, Lush, Boots own brand and now Superdrug. Happy to accept any recommendations!
The thing is my roots get really oily but my ends get dry and dry shampoo generally turns my hair into straw...

I have got my holiday stash out (off on hols next Wednesday) and it is a 3rd of my entire stash (excl make-up).... I shall make it my mission to use it all up!!!

Oops sorry Batiste!!!

The Clarins stuff is lovely but my downfall. The free gifts are good as you can chose the stuff,

I have bought very little make up this year, a mascara and an eyeliner but will want new ideas and stuff as dd is getting married in the Autumn

ememem84 · 29/07/2017 08:14

kwick have you tried the Pantene one?? A friend swears by it.

kwick · 29/07/2017 18:59

Thanks eme I shall make a note Smile

Welcome daisy!

I don't use dry shampoo but Trinny recommends Klorane, apparently there is one for dark hair and one for blondes.

I am still in France and so far have only bought one conditioner (la petit Marseillaise- silicon free - seems nice).

😇

Tantalising close to my first ever empty make up product since joining the thread - should be gone before the end of my hol Grin

plum1304 · 29/07/2017 20:10

I have been doing very well (albeit quietly!!) working through my stash of beauty goodies and was doing really well - until I hit Bobbi Brown in selfridges yesterday...

Make up is the slowest thing to use up as well - why do I do it? It is beautiful though....

DaisyRenton18 · 29/07/2017 23:44

Thanks all :)
You're all doing so brilliantly on your 12 to shelve... Here I go!

  1. Tigi Bed Head conditioner. Words cannot express how much I hate this product (poor husband has been forced to use up the shampoo, but even he drew a line at this awful conditioner) but at £20 or whatever it was I'm too tight to throw it out, so it's used for shaving. The end is in sight... Only a few uses to go! [Gritting my teeth as I type that, as I've been thinking 'oh this is nearly empty! Thank God!' for about three months now.
  2. Aloe Vera eye makeup remover.
  3. Aussie miracle leave in conditioner.
  4. Bentley lip balm.
  5. Nivea oil-free moisturizer. Nice bit no SPF so been relegated to night cream and won't buy again.
  6. Botanics cleanser.
  7. St Tropez moisturizer.
  8. Schwarzkopf illuminating oil. Nice but my argan oil one was nicer. It's also really quite full so I may not finish it by September. Maybe I'll have to bathe in it or something.
  9. Avon lipstick that melted when I left it in the car during work and is now a mush (but perfectly applicable with a brush!)
10. Maybelline Mousse foundation that I swear is nearly as old as I am. Totally got my money's worth there but so desperate for it to give up so I can move on to my beautiful new Bobbi Brown foundation stick. 11. John Frieda shampoo. So over it. 12. Lee Stafford hair mask.
kwick · 30/07/2017 08:14

curragh I think I may have tried Klorane a while back - but worth a go again! Thanks Smile well done on your progress!

daisy I love the comments on your list! Just think how good you will feel when everything on the list is used up!

OP posts:
kwick · 30/07/2017 10:05

I have an empty:

  • Superdrug Vitamin E hit cloth cleanser: this is holy grail for me however none in stash and no intention to re-buy until I have used up my stash Halo
OP posts:
DaisyRenton18 · 30/07/2017 10:39

Ooh kwick, I've heard such great things about Superdrug's hot cloth cleansers. I've got the Naturally Radiant one in my bathroom, but I've got several other cleansers to get through first...

kwick · 30/07/2017 10:43

Yep I love both of those Daisy! And they are so cheap!

OP posts:
kwick · 30/07/2017 19:52

Do you think I might have a bit of a problem....

Daisy fantastic progress, well done!!! Flowers

Strawberryfield12 · 30/07/2017 21:25

Haha kwick what is that? The newest toy from Transformers? Grin
Got two items left in 12 to shelve list, so I think, it's about time to start considering the worthy candidates of 13 to Halloween! Exciting! Have a bunch of things I have to use up before the goodies from advent calendar start to come in. Can you imagine, we are in 2nd half a year already?

DaisyRenton18 · 30/07/2017 22:02

Oh Frugal, thank you for the congratulations but they're not warranted (yet!)... That list is not of my empties, unfortunately, but of things I want to be emptied. Lots of progress yet to be made!

Although, I had a rummage through my bathroom today and I only have three unopened shampoos which is quite good for me. My Mum is a proper hoarder of 'nice things' (as in, she doesn't hoard rubbish or old newspapers etc. but if she finds a nice smelling bubble bath or similar, she will buy several bottles of it - even if she has 10 at home) and it's only in the last couple of years I've realised how damaging this habit is and I'm trying so hard to shake it from myself. Mum is happy having enough bathroom products to last years, but I've realised I'd rather have free cupboard and windowsill space.

I do, however, hoard make-up like a squirrel so I may even need to start a separate 12 to shelve just for cosmetics. kwick, I looked at your picture and the first thing I thought was "ooh, she's got TWO beauty blenders... Envy" Doesn't look like a problem to me, but I think that says more about me than you...! Good luck and enjoy working through it :)

Strawberryfield only 2 to go?! That's great. Well done.

comeagainforbigfudge · 30/07/2017 22:11

I think its time i join this thread. Lurked for a while but have finally sorted thru all my stash and, well, thanks to advent calendars and monthly beauty box type things i have a gazillion travel/miniatures of, well, EVERYTHING. Its ridiculous. A whole shelf in my wardrobe, plus 2 small baskets AND whatever still lurks in bedside drawers.

Its time to tackle it before i buy another advent calendar

12 to shelve

1 - Rainforest shampoo
2 - Rainforest conditioner
3 - Body oil
4 - Mango body scrub
5 -Garnier cleansing milk
6 - Garnier toner
7 - Lush popcorn lip scrub
8 - Nip&fab cleansing pads
9 - Givency lipstick mini
10 - Simple face wash
11 - Urban veda body wash
12 - Balance me face wash

Im starting with whats in the bathroom mainly. And a lot is almost finish but I think thats a good start point as will help spur me on?

Ive got so much make up to work thru as well but im rubbish at applying it so just avoid it unless im going out out. But its just practice isnt it?

DragonNoodleCake · 30/07/2017 22:18

Total make-up box envy Envygoing on here Kwick

kwick · 30/07/2017 23:11

OMG strawberry you make such a good point - I must make sure I lay my hands on the Look Fantastic advent calendar again!!!!

I have actually got 4 Daisy - they are fake ones that I got in Primark - one big one (not pictured), 2 medium ones and then a dinky one (not pictured).

Welcome comeagain! You are in good company!

Haha dragon - you are welcome to anything... I CANNOT believe I ordered more make-up last week... but my mascara is running out and I will have no bronzer once the sample I got is done...

OP posts:
kwick · 30/07/2017 23:13

Actually on came on to report an empty:

  • Radox lavender and waterlily bath soak thing: okay but not too keen on smell - not lavenderish for me 🛀
OP posts:
FrustratedFrugal · 31/07/2017 12:10

Great start anyway Daisy! Grin

I whipped together an eye cream, a lip balm and the dregs of four moisturizers and creams using my kitchen mixer to make a moisturizer for my legs. It smells great because one of the components is an organic balm with ylang ylang 🌺 The packaging has been binned and everything is now dumped into an old body butter tin. If I can finish this in the coming months, I will make great progress towards my #13forHalloween!

FrustratedFrugal · 31/07/2017 14:31

I've reorganized my entire stash to claim a shelf in the bathroom for beach towels. I think the most tangible reward for using up is reclaimed space that can be used for other things! During the process, I found a bunch of things to use up next - super motivated once again Grin

kwick · 31/07/2017 15:30

frustrated you are my hero! Not only making great decluttering strides but making your own beauty products now too!

Got lucky I think today. Went to boots to buy dh some clarins for his birthday. Was secretly hoping I'd get some sort of free gift. However. Boots weren't doing the usual clarins summer beauty bag deal. I did get £7.50 worth of boots points though. So win win.

kwick · 31/07/2017 19:58

I have been told I am taking too many beauty products on holiday with me
