Little things that mean Style Death

I read the other day that one of the worst things you can do style-wise is to miss out a belt loop on your trousers. I've never done this, but I do permanently have a hair bobble around my wrist. This is apparently a big NO. What other little things should I not be doing?

It's just a babe nina. You don't have to play in them, same as you don't have to jump in a jump suit, skate in a skater skirt, board on board shorts, play polo in a polo shirt, cycle in pedal pushers or sweat in a sweater.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/05/2017 20:58

It's just a name I mean Blush

ShelaghTurner · 27/05/2017 21:14

Those really pointy nails. I can't even look at them.

HappyAxolotl · 27/05/2017 21:31

Laddered tights are style death, but since a fair few workplaces still have the no-bare-legs rules and some women prefer by themselves to wear nude tights rather than bare legs, there isn't a lot we can do until someone invents tights that don't rip if you look at them funny.

Any clothes that are the wrong size. Too small and the clothes create lumps and bumps, too big and the extra fabric adds bulk. Again it's a tricky one as some people's weight does fluctuate and some women get period bloating and there isn't much we can do about it.

But the real big one has to be any item of clothing that the wearer doesn't feel comfortable in. We've all seen someone constantly fussing and fidgeting, hitching top up and skirt down and looking like they'd rather be at home hiding under the duvet, and their obvious discomfort is more noticeable than whatever the outfit causing it looked like in the first place.

I love crocs. As backdoor shoes or at the beach.

Marmalade85 · 27/05/2017 21:44

Tie clips, waistcoats, bare ankles with too tight trousers and a work shoe.

Marmalade85 · 27/05/2017 21:46

Men's work shirts which are see though and you can see their nipples. Even worse if the shirt is greying.

Marmalade85 · 27/05/2017 21:46

Oh and a short sleeved work shirt with a tie. Just no.

EggysMom · 27/05/2017 21:47

I don't mind leggings, but I don't want to see peoples' bottoms in those leggings - please only wear them when your top is long enough to cover your derriere.

I apologise for wearing scuffed shoes. Somehow I keep scuffing the right toe, I don't know how, but the shoes are still perfectly serviceable.

I apologise for wearing bootcut trousers and jeans - I didn't even know that bootcut was out of fashion. However, I'm not replacing my entire wardrobe to suit fashion, so you'll have to put up with me wearing them.

I agree that bra straps shouldn't really be on show (or if they have to be, under a spaghetti strap top, at least choose a decent bra and not some grey monstrosity).

I don't like crocs. I don't like tights in peep-toe shoes or sandals. I don't really like feet - I choose to wear ballerina pumps in summer, rather than put my feet on show.

For men - don't wear brown shoes with a black or grey suit. Just don't.

Marmalade85 · 27/05/2017 21:53

Oh and women who wear those weird pyjama looking trousers with a thong and their arses are jiggling all over the place under the very revealing flimsy material.

Marmalade85 · 27/05/2017 21:55

And ballet pumps - horrid shoes made even worse by clearly visible pop socks. Just buy a more practical design or wear tights.

MikeUniformMike · 27/05/2017 22:04

I have some nice scrunchies, but I don't like the name.

Ugh to false nails.

TheDowagerCuntess · 27/05/2017 22:23

Feels slightly blasphemous to say it, but I think Anna Wintour's incredibly precise bob, with fringe, looks terrible.

Anna Wintour has not changed her look in ages

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/05/2017 22:37

Jeans. I don't like jeans. I don't think they flatter the vast majority of wearers and they are so boring.

Movedout · 27/05/2017 23:18

Jeans and trainers, especially on men. Anything purple.

ChangelingToday · 27/05/2017 23:43

I think unwashed hair and long dirty toenails with sandals look awful. I also hate tunics, they do nothing for me.

blueshoes · 28/05/2017 00:15

Anna Wintour's bob must surely be a wig

PenguinOfDoom · 28/05/2017 00:29

White unlined dresses or trousers in summer with coloured/white knickers clearly visible. Do people not check their back view before leaving the house or own flesh coloured underwear?

Another vote against crocs here. Ugliest shoes imaginable.

Also, this is probably unreasonable, but I hate seeing men wearing flip flops.

BusterGonad · 28/05/2017 05:56

Penguin anyone with ugly feet should not wear flip flops, I hate flip flops. I only wear them on the beach or in a communal shower at a youth hostel etc.

NotYoda · 28/05/2017 06:20

Buster

I don't wear flipflops, but I can see why people with bad feet wear them. Bunions are bloody painful and you just want some relief from them

NotYoda · 28/05/2017 06:21

Can I mention men here?

Men in tight trousers

Bleurgh. Especially men with chubby or chunky legs. I don't want to see your pocket linings, or your knob.

lizzieoak · 28/05/2017 06:27

If you're not Audrey Hepburn then I hate ballet flats. They make women's feet look like canoes.

Tops with busy swirly patterns, especially in dodgy material. Why do women start wearing them when they hit 50?

White trousers.

Long winter coats that seem to be made from black waffles. No shape to them, massively unflattering.

Hurleygirl123 · 28/05/2017 07:40

I agree with zero tolerance of visible trainer socks...and too tight bra straps causing back fat too..and tights with open toe sandals! You can buy special open toe tights you know..
