Little things that mean Style Death

I read the other day that one of the worst things you can do style-wise is to miss out a belt loop on your trousers. I've never done this, but I do permanently have a hair bobble around my wrist. This is apparently a big NO. What other little things should I not be doing?

Feels slightly blasphemous to say it, but I think Anna Wintour's incredibly precise bob, with fringe, looks terrible

Agreed. Lego hair.

HappyAxolotl · 28/05/2017 08:00

I saw a real treat the other day. A man wearing tight ripped jeans so his hairy bloke legs showed through the rips... then he walked past and the back of the jeans were just as shredded and his hairy bloke arse was on view to the world!

Just why? Shock There are some things I don't need to see until the 3rd date or my 10th pint!

Would it be really bad of me to wish him a sunburnt backside?

emilybrontescorset · 28/05/2017 08:42

Ill fitting shoes.
So many people cram their feet into shoes which do not fit and it looks horrible.
I don't like irregular shoes.
Unless you have fabulous legs and beautiful feet, which rules out the vast majority of people, they are not flattering. They draw attention to the feet and then the legs.
I also agree about hair extensions. Why do people think it looks good when you can see plastic bobbles holding them in place, it looks tacky.
Men wearing too tight/ short tops which reveal a fat, hairy gut hanging over their trousers urgh!

"North Face jackets"

Oh dear, I've just bought one of those. I was completely at a loss for a jacket for spring and for cold summer days. Any summer jacket or coat would be too thin so I wanted something that was really a winter jacket, but that wouldn't look to out of place on a day of 15 to 18 degrees.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 09:43

"white bra (or coloured) under white top, got to be "flesh" coloured."

I disagree. I tried a flesh coloured one under my white blouse the other day and it looked brown. The white one was still slightly visible, but much better.

reallyanotherone · 28/05/2017 09:53

Agree with gwen re. white bras. I am very pale and nude is completely wrong for my skintone. It would look as though i had a brown bra underneath and did nobody else used to find it hysterical in their clubbing days when the uv light would make your bra light up like a beacon

Or, of course, if you hate bras showing you could just not buy see through shirts and tops...

BusterGonad · 28/05/2017 09:59

NotYoda of course I exclude anyone with feet issues, that goes without saying.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:01

"Walking shoes.

They are fine if you're climbing a small hill. They are not okay for a visit to the city centre pub."

What if you have to walk to the pub?
I wear walking shoes most weekends. I walk to town, then I walk for 2 or 3 hours around the shops. That's a lot of walking and I need some cushioning.

specialsubject · 28/05/2017 10:04

Any pub with a dress code dictating shoes is a pub that should go out of business.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:14

"Nude tights with open toed shoes. "

Ugly feet with sandals have also been criticised so what are those of us with horrible feet supposed to wear in the summer?

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:17

"bare feet, trainers on"

Smelly and causes blisters.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:26

"here isn't a lot we can do until someone invents tights that don't rip if you look at them funny."

I try to carry a spare pair, but it's always possible to forget.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:27

"Jeans and trainers"

Oh come on. If you're wearing trainers you're casual so why would you need to wear smart shoes?

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:32

"So many people cram their feet into shoes which do not fit and it looks horrible."

I suppose that's me, but one foot is bigger than the other so unless I buy two pairs, there's always going to be one foot crammed into a shoe that's too small.

Fadingmemory · 28/05/2017 10:38

Wearing sports gear when not involved in sport. (Currently clad/carrying heavy boots, full waterproofs etc plus untrendy rucksack - but am off for a full day's hill walking).

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 10:52

I may not be going hiking Fading, but I plan to go shopping and then on to a party today Fading so I'll be walking many miles as well and doing that in walking shoes.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/05/2017 11:01

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
I bought some Hotter shoes. I've worn them non stop, they are like clouds, but for some reason a seam gave me a blister yesterday, so I'm wearing Birkenstock shoes. Lace up, grey suede. With socks. But we are out to the country and no one will see me so I don't care. (I do a bit)

Albadross · 28/05/2017 11:07

I can assure the tattoo haters that the several hundred scars mine cover up were definitely a bigger style killer Grin

Theycalledmethewildrose · 28/05/2017 11:53

"Jeans and trainers"

I used think this when there were only white sports trainers available, the type that people run marathons in. Now there are so many colourful, fun, small trainers available, I love them with jeans.

bsbabas · 28/05/2017 12:31

Those horrid bags with the gorrilla fluffy key chain. Too much self tan eyebrows that have never seen a pair pf tweezers. Those padless bras that have stretched way too far in the wash. Brb going to get a haircut hairdye new make up and something floaty yet dignified for the summer

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/05/2017 12:36

"Jeans and trainers"

Oh come on. If you're wearing trainers you're casual so why would you need to wear smart shoes?

No, trainers, unless actually training, are hideous.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 28/05/2017 12:38

No, trainers, unless actually training, are hideous.

Most of the trainers available are not suitable for training in. They are fashion only trainers for casual wear.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/05/2017 12:40

This thread has made me chuckle 😊

I agree about tattoos, I've yet to see one I liked,I just don't like inked skin.

Guilty of lots of things on the thread though😁

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/05/2017 12:42

Sandals with no toe varnish look wrong to me, always need toe varnish imo!

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2017 12:42

"No, trainers, unless actually training, are hideous."

What do you wear with jeans then, the same kind of shoes you'd wear to work. Not very comfortable when you're out and about on the weekend.
