Sorry! Coral flower!
(Carnal flower is a Fredric Malle one)

Hi Lambchops - I'm not one of the knowledgeable ones, but a trick which I have found very helpful is putting the perfume you like into Fragrantica or Base Notes and you will find out more about it and similar perfumes. The trick is to then do lots of sniffing.

There are sites which also sell samples which mean you can try lots of different perfumes for a relatively small amount of money.

Fragrantica

LambChopsMcGee · 03/07/2017 12:02

Ooh, excellent. Thank you very much.
Might be quite a while before I get to test/get them (might be next time i hit a Duty Free...) but I will come back and report.

Mrsmartell08 · 03/07/2017 12:05

Fragrantica is good....be prepared to lose an hour each time you go on though!

Mrsmartell08 · 03/07/2017 16:09

Oh dear
AT D&E is a no go for me :(
Beautifully crafted scent (as all ETs seem to be) but just not me...all I can smell is melon? Its very sweet. The dry down is pleasant though...quite powdery
But I don't like it enough to keep it
Hope violet eyes is better!

Ok - so just comparing newish O de Lancome with vintage Eau de Rochas: O de L is a fizzing , lemony citrus with quite unisex aromatic heart notes. E de R is slightly less effervescent (maybe that's just down to the age of my bottle?), opening with a lot of mandarin (my favourite Smile), and a slightly more floral heart (I get whiffs of narcissus and rose). O de L has the stronger oak moss note, in E de R there's amber and musk in the mix too (so one step away from an out and out cologne - in this respect it brought Les Nuits D'Hadrien to mind).

For fun, I then compared Eau de Sud. On first sniff, the lime and mint screamed out, but the heart notes blend to a seamless mossy stem green. And for completeness I then tried (vintage) Givenchy III but it disappeared against this competition after the first green whoosh.

If I had a spare limb I would have also tried my vintage Eau de Gres - which I think has the most in common with E de R (more mandarin appreciation...).

Dlpdep · 03/07/2017 18:23

There is something old womany about it. I have it on now and have sunk a few Hendricks and fever tree's. There is. The lemony citrus is lovely, especially in the sun. But there is a moth ball knickeriness about it. I won't be happy until I have a bottle of cristalle in my possession.

2 things of drunken wisdom that I can impart. I confuse O with Clinique elixirs and air du temps with Giorgio Beverly Hills! It's the Bottles.

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/07/2017 18:45

SOTD is JHAG Mad Madame. I was in MAC today and sprayed their Velvet Teddy shade-scent - it is bang on for Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. I might have a sniff of the leathery one next time.

Dlpdep · 03/07/2017 19:53

DH wants me to get a bottle of Miss charming and be done with perfumes! I laughed!

MrsCocoa · 03/07/2017 20:43

Just compared the E de R dry-down with Choc de Cardin. Choc is the monster 80s love child? Thanks DipDep for calling out the hint of mothballs in O de L. Not present in E De R; it's musky instead, and in Choc it's musk and civet; a whole other sort of knickeriness.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 03/07/2017 21:14

judy Ive got the purple one, smells of rubber. Makes my mouth water.

Dlpdep · 03/07/2017 21:18

Eau de rochas is in one of the perfumerias beside me. Is it an aftershave? Bottle looks very masculine! Must investigate tomorrow!!

MrsCocoa · 03/07/2017 21:37

Only if it's got a big 'Homme' on the bottle Grin. Wait and see how it develops and be sure to report back!

Dlpdep · 03/07/2017 22:01

Defo! On my to do list for tomorrow! For anyone considering Bronze goddess, yes, it smells of summer holidays, but it lasts 10 mins! And is kind of lost on actual summer holidays because you kind of smell like that anyways!

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/07/2017 22:14

ohwhatfuckery I think that's the one I fancy, is it My Heroine? It sounds like it might be a bit like Tauer Lonestar Memories? I can still smell the TF TV knockoff on my hand about seven hours and numerous washes later. I'm quite tempted to purchase. I love TV, but sold mine as it gave me migraines every time I wore it.

dipdep I find Bronze Goddess lasts really well - like I can still smell it faintly the next morning well.

HysterectomyHysteria · 03/07/2017 22:24

Evening all, just running in to ask what is it in ET diamonds and rubies that smells sharp on me? I can smell something sharp at the back of the scent. I'm quite upset, I thought it would be lovely after all your reviews! 😀

PerfumeIsAMessage · 03/07/2017 22:27

MrsC you need an extra limb to try Liz Earle 1 as well. Definitely part of the same citrus green sharp fresh school.

Dlpdep · 03/07/2017 22:55

Maybe it's the version I got? ( bronze goddess!) Who was talking about a perfume that brings them on a journey earlier? Because I'm in the market for such a thing! I want a willy wonka violet beauregard 3 course dinner chewing gum of a perfume. Not a floral / citrus dries down to patchouli /amber. I want a 'takes you places' perfume where half of you wants the opening notes to last forever and the other half wants you to move along to the next big thing perfume.

MrsCocoa · 03/07/2017 23:38

Ha! I used to have a bottlePiaM, but the Liz Earle's have really lousy staying power on my skin. Want to try Aliage/Alliage and Jolie Madame.

Mrsmartell08 · 04/07/2017 07:18

Is it the peach hysteria?

HysterectomyHysteria · 04/07/2017 08:11

I'm not sure Mrsm, it sort of catches at the back of my nose it's a sharp smell. I smell the lovely powdery smell then this sharp note develops above it.
Shame, I was hoping for a lovely summer scent.

MrsCocoa · 04/07/2017 08:20

Dipdep - get your hands on a little bottle of some vintage Lancome Magie parfum (not Magie Noire). It is sometimes possible to pick up v cheaply on eBay but you'll have to look out for it.

It's a good question: what else has interesting progression?

Puppylucky · 04/07/2017 09:17

SOTD Aromatics in Black - a new arrival that I had forgotten I ordered Blush
For a relatively new introduction (as I understand) it's a time trip back to the 80's!
It smells just like one of the power houses I loved -Lou Lou I think. My younger self would have loved it as I swanked around London in my shoulder pads but the older me is a bit scared of it!

Mrsmartell08 · 04/07/2017 10:11

My nightmusk edp has arrived
Yay.

flickerty · 04/07/2017 11:44

SOTD Laurent Mazzone - sensual orchid.

I almost forget I have this one as it sits hidden away in its black velvet box hiding from all traces of sunlight, I don't take this much care of any of my other scents Grin

A delightful mix of almond, neroli, jasmin, mandarin and all sorts of deliciousness.

If I'm honest it's a little heavy for daytime wear but that's kind of my style Grin
