Lipstick challenge for January

Lottapianos · 08/12/2016 12:58

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

PinkiePie When you wear lipstick to match your eyes, please post a selfie Wink

I have so many ideas for theme months. I've worn red lipstick every day since Dec 9 or 10 and it is totally addictive. But I could also do Purple January, Pink February, Mauve March, Coral April, Matte May, Sheer June, Glossy July and save the brick tones for autumn

appalachianwalzing · 19/12/2016 19:02

I find this idea very exciting. Also a good excuse to gather together my lipstick collection which is spread across various handbags, makeup bags and even coat pockets.

I am a lipstick person, but definitely don't have thirty. Agree with others that somehow putting on a slick of lipstick instantly makes you look polished even if you do nothing else. I have pale skin, auburn hair, hazel eyes and quite a few matte reds which I enjoy at Christmas. But a gap in the sort of peach / bright but not red direction I'd like to fill.

Does anyone want to share favourites? For reds, I was underwhelmed by Mac ruby woo, much prefer the Chanel I have.

I bought Mac funfare, a pink, as a daytime neutral but it's actually not as nice as a cheapy revlon chubby stick in a similar neutral pink which seems to suit my colouring better. Had a long lasting Estée Lauder for a few years in a ginger-y colour that was great, but not especially 'wow'.

Would love something to make the green in my eyes pop, but that may be expecting a bit much from a lipstick!

MissWillaCather · 20/12/2016 17:25

Beauty without cruelty in rosewood is a good bet to make green eyes pop, love mine with any hair colour I'm sporting, but especially coppery bits.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 20/12/2016 19:12

I'm wearing Kate moss for rimmel in red nose red. £1 after comic relief day so bought 5 for friends. Such a good colour but prob not much use now!

cathyandclare · 01/01/2017 15:29

Has everyone got their lippy on? I've gone a bit goth with paramount by mac which is a dark burgundy colour, it distracts from the shadows under my eyes after a rather late and boozy night.

DameDoom · 01/01/2017 17:16

I have been getting my lips sorted with Clarins lip oil ( amazing stuff) since Christmas day so I treated myself to an Hourglass lipstick and lip pencil in their true red shade called Icon. The SA applied it and I was stopped twice before I had even left John Lewis to ask what I was wearing. I was stopped again in Boots and then in M&S food hall. This never ever happens to me.
The last time I wore red lippie, I was copying Corinne out of Swing Out Sister. I did not think I could wear red at 45 but it seems I can.
Will be lippying it up for January even if I just stick to this one shade.

FrustratedFrugal · 01/01/2017 17:19

I'm wearing 1990s brownish red, a glossy coppery shade. A nice change from pure reds, just right for a humid, overcast day.

GenericDietCola · 01/01/2017 20:03

I'm going to join in too - good idea. I have loads of lipsticks and balms and am always on the hunt for the perfect lip-coloured-but-better lip balm. I'm going to gather all of my lip products into one place and try them all throughout the month so I can throw away the ones that I don't like any more and buy more as replacements

Dulcimena · 01/01/2017 20:17

Today I wore Kosas Stardust (inspired a bit by Rogue One Xmas Grin - it's a "universal" pinky-brown shade), which I hunted down and had shipped from France at some expense. However - it doesn't really suit me. Might work better in the summer but right now it's doing me no favours. Nevermind - tomorrow I'll try another.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/01/2017 21:11

Today I wore Marc Jacobs Oh Miley to visit friends. I've been wearing a lot of orange-reds lately, so it was nice to be in a more pinky-toned red.

Chipsandonionrings · 01/01/2017 21:37

I went to boots pre Xmas and did the colour match lipstick thing. I never wear lipstick but would like to be the sort of person who does. Dh bought me 3 I liked and I had bought 1 previously so now I am the proud owner of 4 lipsticks and 2 glosses. All my nye resolutions start on the 2nd so this is perfectly timed for me. I do feel more groomed with lipstick on and it makes me put on my tinted moisturiser, a bit of eyeliner and blusher- then suddenly I don't look so pale and ill. The first flush of youth has def been and gone and I now need to actually make an effort.

However I always have really peely lips, I bought the moisture drench lipsticks, use lip balm at night and brush my lips occasionally but all lippy makes my lips more flakey. Then without realising I bite or pick the bits of skin - eww!! Does anyone have a magic cure for flakey lips, please.

SapphireSeptember · 01/01/2017 21:45

This is an easy challenge for me, I have more lipstick than you can shake a stick at. Grin I have enough to do this challenge for a whole year. Blush #notevenashamed It's the only thing I really spend money on.

Mawsymoo · 01/01/2017 22:10

I love this idea! I just counted and I have 19 lipsticks which is ridiculous as I don't even wear it that often! I love makeup but I have a thin upper lip which I'm a bit paranoid about but I'll try to be brave. I'll have enough to try something different on most working days in January so I'll see how it goes. I already think there are a few that need to go to the bin so I'll use this as a final test.

Mawsymoo · 02/01/2017 10:20

I got lucky this morning- Max Factor colour intensifying balm in the shade "Refined Rose". So it was a very easy and subtle start and ideal for a no-makeup day. I will definitely be keeping this one.

CaptainBrickbeard · 02/01/2017 10:30

I love lipstick and adore it when I put it on but find it comes off so quickly and needs constant retouching which is frustrating. How do people get it to stay looking good without reapplying non stop? Especially bright shades, which are my favourite!

FrustratedFrugal · 02/01/2017 10:38

Repeat-wearing Max Factor Chilli, might even finish this this month!

Chipsandonionrings · 02/01/2017 11:21

I am starting this challenge wearing my reddest lipstick - soft paprika. I feel awful, I am coming down with a godawful cold everyone but me has had and I am slouching around in my tracksuit but I smile every time I see myself in the mirror.

Sparkesx · 02/01/2017 11:25

MAC in Whirl shade for me today Grin

Mawsymoo · 03/01/2017 08:32

Out of my lucky dip bag today is another balmy one - Rimmel Colour Rush in the shade "Boom chicka boom" which is a hot pink. Colour-wise I think it's more of a spring/summer one but I absolutely love the pigmentation and formulation of it and might buy another couple of shades in the range if I have a clear out at the end of the month. Plus the colour is nice and bright for the first day back in work. Another keeper!

Sparkesx · 03/01/2017 09:02

MAC - Amore Prohibido (I think it's called) for me today.

Dulcimena · 03/01/2017 09:08

Yesterday was Chantecaille Fig, which is a strong plummy red that I haven't worn for ages but I really enjoyed. This morning it's a pink - By Terry Cappuccino Fraise, an oldie but a goodie.

This exercise is already showing up that I really need to do something about my teeth though - heavy coffee drinker and it shows Blush Any recs for whitening products please?

cathyandclare · 03/01/2017 13:26

Sorry no tooth whitening recs, although I do remember reading a thread that said that occasional use of Eucryl smokers' powder from BM Bargains, was brilliant.

Yesterday I was in a nudish brown Revlon called mink. Today i'm in full on red, the Kate Moss Rimmel red, given to me by my DDs. I feel a little self conscious but not going out, so it's a good time to adapt. Will wear it in public later in the month.

leedy · 03/01/2017 15:44

I forgot I swore I'd do this, but somehow lucky-dipped this morning anyway (ie rummaged in a makeup bag and grabbed something in my half-asleep state) - MAC Plumful, which is a really nice pinky MLBB colour. I've been wearing a lot of red lately so was/is a nice change. Keeping.

WHO KNOWS WHAT I WILL HAVE ON TOMORROW....

Wearing bougois rouge edition velvet. With an eye patch (long dull painful story) so not left house but nice subtle red.
Having done stock take, I realise I need a red lip liner. Any recommendations? Have a pink rimmel one which does a good job so may find red in same range.
