Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

I'm joining but I want to start right now to make Christmastime more festive. 💄👄😍

I'll dig out my reds - NYX Bloody Mary, NARS Jungle Red, Chanel Rouge Orage, Max Factor Chilli, and my old Revlon reds... And when I need just quick layer, I'll wear my sheer reds - Max Factor Raisin and Sunbronze and my H&M jumbo pencil.

Red December it is!

cathyandclare · 10/12/2016 10:16

I'm in! I thought I had too many lipsticks at 10- but this is a fabulous excuse to buy another 21!!!

I really want a more nude colour. I struggle with red too, I always feel like I'm a kid playing with my mum's make-up, and I'm nearly 50!. I do like very dark berry colours though. Are we posting pout pics? < puts note in diary to get 'tache threaded>

BusterGonad · 10/12/2016 11:14

I have a berry one by Marc Jacobs called Boy Gorgeous. It's semi mat and amazing!!!

I make just have bought nude/mink revlon lippie, just to be ready :)
Any excuse!

Good work Cathy Failure to prepare is preparing to fail! Wink

HuckleberryGin · 11/12/2016 17:14

I really want to be lipstick person, but I always feel daft wearing it. I don't like lip gloss or balm- I don't like the feel.

I'm ginger, so I always think lots of colours don't suit me.

BusterGonad · 11/12/2016 17:32

If you're ginger you need to try the L'Oréal ones endorsed by Julianne Moore. She has a red, pink and nude one in their colour richer collections.

I'm in! Not sure I actually have a proper red. I have about 6-8 lipsticks, I think.

Random lipstick question - I used to have a Benefit lipstick called Nice Knickers, which I probably bought in about 2006. It was a lovely pink that really suited me. DD smushed it this summer and I'm struggling to find a replacement. I know it's a long shot, but anyone know of a duplicate?

BroomstickOfLove · 11/12/2016 18:42

I have an almost perfect tinted balm, a perfect MLBB, a perfect pink and a perfect red. I don't need anything else. I just have to keep buying spares of the ones I own and hoping that none of them get discontinued.

OrdinaryGirl · 12/12/2016 06:27

HuckleberryGin I can help.

  1. Find lipstick.
  2. Apply to lips.
  3. Voila! To the whole world, you are now a wonderfully polished, put-together lipstick person. 😊 Nobody needs to know the truth

I wonder if people sometimes have an idea that they need to be a bona fide glamourpuss or that their lives need to be all ordered and their wardrobes sorted before they can wear lipstick...and my experience is that it works the other way - put on a bright lipstick and somehow you stand up straighter, feel...purrier, somehow 😽, and start getting more done.

I think that's how women got through WW2. Lipstick, strong tea, a matchless work ethic and true grit.

Anyway, lovely idea for a thread OP, you mad, eleventy-billion-lipstick-owning renegade. 😘💄💄💄💄💄💄💄💄💄💄💄💄

BusterGonad · 12/12/2016 06:32

I agree Ordinary, lipstick really makes me feel happier and more confident, when my son was in the nicu I would sometimes wear my favorite cranberry shade of lipstick to make me feel like I could face the world, and it made me feel braver and ready to fight whatever was thrown at me!

Lottapianos · 12/12/2016 07:46

Ordinary, I very much endorse your advice for wearing lipstick. If you fancy it, just do it! You may feel a bit odd and get a shock every time you look in the mirror for the first few days, but you'll soon get over that. You do not have to be some fashionista type goddess to deserve lipstick, it's for absolutely everyone who wants it. So enjoy!

I only have enough for a week. I got rid of anything I wasn't wearing.

Liiinoo · 12/12/2016 08:35

I've got about 25. I just got an Avon catalogue with some good lipstick offers so I will order a couple more in colours I don't normally wear (coral and berry maybe). For the other days I will sneak into DDs room...unless Santa or my M&S advent calendar has something in store.

MissWillaCather · 12/12/2016 08:55

There's a nice Avon one which is part balm, part lipstick. I have Soothing Strawberry!

I'm normally a full on lipstick person, but it's surprisingly nice, wear it all the time.

DesignedForLife · 12/12/2016 09:00

This should be called the Candice Challenge Grin

I've only got about 10. Half of which I don't like. Need to invest in some new ones.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 18/12/2016 11:37

I struggle with lipstick, just cannot get it to stay on for any length of time and as I barely get to pee during my work day (teacher) and never get to pee when with the kids all day i dont get a minute to look in a mirror amd re apply...so I just don't bother. Also don't know what suits me..

I'm nearly 40 and think I need to start looking more polished. I'm a bit arty and probably dress younger than I am so would quite like a funky red or something..also just got straight teeth and braces off last week so don't mind drawing attention to my teeth now..
I'm quite pale, freckled with green/gray eyes and bright red dyed hair...what would suit me? And what stays on without drying out lips? I've got really oily skin so think my lips are too oily for it to stay on!

FrustratedFrugal · 18/12/2016 11:46

Youcant I'm pale and have green eyes. For your type of work I'd pick mauves, pinks or sheer reds - fairly natural lipsticks that are pleasant to wear and have a pretty fade and that you can also apply without a mirror.

Red lipstick is quite high maintenance and tends to require at least one touchup after lunch. Pick an easy 'training wheels' lipstick at first.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 18/12/2016 11:48

Thanks frustrated, yes, for work maybe...I could keep the reds for the weekend. I've tried a lip stain in quite a dark pink which I liked, but it didn't stain!

summerson · 18/12/2016 16:00

Love this idea and will be joining in for sure!

I think I have about 10 lip glosses and 5 lipsticks. I will rotate them all, starting right now! (Home alone but still, power to me!)

Trills · 18/12/2016 16:07

It definitely takes a few goes before you get used to seeing yourself with bright lips.

shins · 18/12/2016 22:02

I love lipstick! It's immensely cheering to put on a slash of red or pink to face the day. I've had a look and I think I have about 12-15. I might break out the Ruby Woo for January.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 19/12/2016 16:54

I'm in too! Have heaps and don't wear enough. Wear pink uniform at work so could match lipstick to that?!? Or my bloodshot red xmas eyes!?
Hey frustrated! Knew I'd find a fellow lipstick addict! [waves!]
Wearing matte Kiko red-pink lipstick and it's cheering me up even though sat in Children's hospital waiting room wishing I was by my xmas tree!

Dulcimena · 19/12/2016 17:48

I don't have thirty lipsticks but I'd definitely be into wearing one every day in January. I'm in.
